Most organized religions have a very negative view of gay, many people see being gay as natures mistake ( a glitch where a very small % of the population ends up not normal) the haters tend to be less educated, they tend to live in areas with people who feel the same as them, they had parents that felt the same, they despise weak men or men seen as weak and fem or women-like behavior..

It doesn’t make sense in any other context as that commenter mentioned, and I believe you’ve been taken in by the small amount of homophobes that are either exposed as being gay, or come out later in life, that these stories are much more publicized than your standard homophobe, making it seem like a greater proportion of homophobia than it actually is. It happens sure, but it’s not a driving force of homophobia in any way. I agree a lot of it comes down to insecurity, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that insecurity comes from the person being gay themselves. Tbh in my experience with people that have come out later in life, it much more commonly manifests in the person being quiet, and often depressed.
