Can we talk about Prince?

I want to talk about someone with talent.

I loved Purple Rain, that album meant a lot to me back then. But I did not find Prince a likable person.

by Anonymousreply 1June 17, 2024 3:16 AM

Prince was definitely talented. But if you're looking for uncritical hero worship you won't get it here, toots.

He was as popular as Michael Jackson back in the 80s no without as much scandal?

The 2nd runner up on The Golden Bachelor dated Prince and claims he wrote Sexy Dancer about her

by Anonymousreply 5June 17, 2024 3:29 AM

He was no stranger to the homosex and he was a druggie.

by Anonymousreply 6June 17, 2024 3:32 AM

I love that performance at R3, but at around the 4:45 mark, Prince reminds me of Nigel Tufnel (Spinal Tap), on his knees, leaning back like Jimi Hendrix (and can't get back up). Except, here, there's a guy in the audience whose job it was to push Prince back up.

by Anonymousreply 7June 17, 2024 3:33 AM

I thought he was bi.

by Anonymousreply 8June 17, 2024 3:36 AM

I really don't think Prince was bi. And I am not usually resistant to the idea that a musician/actor is a stranger to cock.

He apparently had a feminine side and named his alter ego "Camille" but he kinda spells all that out in If I Was Your Girlfriend: if he couldn't love a particular women, he wanted to be that woman's best girlfriend so they could be close.

Wendy and Lisa referred to him as a "fancy lesbian" and really, that kinda covers it.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 9June 17, 2024 3:53 AM

He's very masculine and feminine at the same time

by Anonymousreply 10June 17, 2024 3:56 AM

R4 he didn't have as much scandal because he wasn't as odd or weird as MJ, and he didn't have the baggage the Jacksons had.

The main controversy about him was that he was perceived to be gay because he dressed in a fancy way. There was some controversy early on because his lyrics were very racy.

When he came out with Purple Rain that all subsided, for the most part. "Purple Rain" was considered his big rock classic, and even though he released a lot before and since, that song was the one all the male rockers played at his death.

by Anonymousreply 11June 17, 2024 3:57 AM

I expected so much more from his Batdance. Or just something else.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 12June 17, 2024 4:03 AM

I'd say he was bisexual or just plain gay. He was 7th Day Adventist and then Jehovah's Witness. He was brainwashed into thinking same-sex relations were bad. Because he was a recording artist, he was given license to express himself.

Think about it. If some guy down the street from your house wore blow-out hairstyles, eye makeup, high-heeled shoes -- would you say he was straight?

by Anonymousreply 13June 17, 2024 4:04 AM

[quote]Think about it. If some guy down the street from your house wore blow-out hairstyles, eye makeup, high-heeled shoes -- would you say he was straight?

Wasn't that the style in the 80s, r13? I look back at footage of musicians and basically every dude back then and they all looked like girls, tbh.

by Anonymousreply 17June 17, 2024 4:31 AM

Another tortured homosexual, sad it has to be that way.

by Anonymousreply 18June 17, 2024 5:42 AM

I always thought it was cool that he stayed in Minneapolis.

by Anonymousreply 19June 17, 2024 7:11 AM

I am among those who don't think that he was gay. I would sooner say that he was some sort of autogynephile as he reveals in If I was your girlfriend

by Anonymousreply 20June 17, 2024 8:25 AM

Loved him as a performer and respected his talent. But he was a bit too esoteric for me at times and he overplayed his role as the eccentric musician.

by Anonymousreply 21June 17, 2024 12:02 PM

Guess what everyone!

by Anonymousreply 22June 17, 2024 12:15 PM

This town needs an enema.

by Anonymousreply 23June 17, 2024 12:15 PM

I am originally from Minneapolis and grew up there in the 80s and 90s. I saw Prince around from time to time and Paisley Park isn't too far from where my parents live. I used to go to Glam Slam, his club in downtown Mpls, and sometimes he would be there in the VIP area and he definitely was scoping out women. He used to have his bodyguards go around and ask the beautiful people to come back to after parties at PP.

An ex of mine worked as a production assistant on one of Prince's videos and it was the typical weird celebrity thing of "don't look him in the eye", etc. My ex would have to say something to the assistant who would then relay it to Prince who was sitting right there and had heard the whole thing. Prince's staff referred to him as "Boss". As in "Hey Boss, this guy is wondering if you could turn your head slightly to the right."

Prince's mother was a local social worker. There were some friends of my parents who knew her as they were also social workers, but I don't know much about her.

I know lots of Minneapolis/Chanhassen people who have stories about him but they're all pretty similar to the above. He was part of the local wallpaper.

by Anonymousreply 24June 17, 2024 12:26 PM

I seem to remember that Kim Basinger fell so hard for Prince that her family had to intervene on her, at his place but notably in his absence, because she had cut herself off the world to be with him only and had all but abandoned her career. If he had been a big homo, maybe they couldn't stop chatting about New York Fashion Week.

by Anonymousreply 25June 17, 2024 12:27 PM

by Anonymousreply 29June 17, 2024 1:27 PM

R26, yes, many, many times.

by Anonymousreply 30June 17, 2024 1:27 PM

He was more accepting of gays and lesbians early on. Unfortunately, one of the musicians he played with in the early 90s - a guy that influenced his later funk sound - also got him into being a Jehovah's Witness and made him a homophobe.

Not gay. Not even a tiny little bit.

by Anonymousreply 31June 17, 2024 1:27 PM

Hm, if he was homophobic, that could be suspicious.

by Anonymousreply 32June 17, 2024 1:35 PM

My controversial take on Prince is that I really think Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman deserve far more credit for his most popular sound/era - they contributed a lot musically to that Purple Rain/Around the World In A Day/Parade era, and when they left Prince's music reverted to the kind of funk it had been early on.

I don't dispute that he was incredibly talented, but the "genius" of that era was the band collaborating, and you can hear what Wendy and Lisa brought to the table in Wendy and Lisa's solo music.

by Anonymousreply 33June 17, 2024 1:59 PM

Prince is perhaps the greatest artist of all time.

by Anonymousreply 34June 17, 2024 2:07 PM

What I love about Prince is he never was malicious, always drama free, and kept his insanity.

Prince looked like what Michael Jackson wish he looked like genetically.

by Anonymousreply 35June 17, 2024 2:08 PM

[quote] Prince looked like what Michael Jackson wish he looked like genetically.

Explain this please.

by Anonymousreply 36June 17, 2024 2:15 PM

R35 NO, Michael Jackson wanted to look like Elizabeth Taylor.

by Anonymousreply 37June 17, 2024 2:35 PM

[quote] He was as popular as Michael Jackson back in the 80s no without as much scandal?

No, not even close. Nobody was close to being as popular as Michael Jackson was back then. But I like Prince's music way better. Way less sterile and more creative. I always roll my eyes when MJ fans claim he was the most talented artist of all time.

by Anonymousreply 38June 17, 2024 2:37 PM

R37 People say that for humor but Michael wished he was mixed race looking or light skin. He would have killed to be born with Prince’s looks.

by Anonymousreply 39June 17, 2024 2:41 PM

He peaked commercially with Purple Rain, but I like Controversy best.

Did he do anything of note after the 90s? Whenever I saw him perform on television, it always seemed like he’d veer into a meandering jam session.

by Anonymousreply 40June 17, 2024 2:49 PM

I think 90s Prince is very underrated and has aged better than most of his 80s stuff.

by Anonymousreply 41June 17, 2024 2:54 PM

[quote] Prince is perhaps the greatest artist of all time.

No. But then again, it's not a contest.

He's one of the most inventive and original artists of the 20th century.

by Anonymousreply 42June 17, 2024 2:56 PM

Don't you mean "The Artist"? I never liked his music or him, he was pretentious to a ridiculous degree.

[quote] Madonna is pretentious. Elvis was pretentious. Prince was not.

LMAO. Not an Elvis fan but to call him pretentious next to Prince is just funny.

by Anonymousreply 49June 17, 2024 4:28 PM

He really took over the stage at R3, which was his intent.

by Anonymousreply 50June 17, 2024 10:03 PM

[quote] [R37] People say that for humor but Michael wished he was mixed race looking or light skin. He would have killed to be born with Prince’s looks.

No. If that were true he would have stopped fucking with his looks at "Thriller." By "Bad" he was a white woman, he wanted to be Liz Taylor.

by Anonymousreply 51June 17, 2024 10:21 PM

Was Prince mixed race?

by Anonymousreply 52June 17, 2024 10:32 PM

R52 No though he used to say that early in his career for mainstream appeal. Both his parents are just lightskin AAs.

by Anonymousreply 53June 17, 2024 10:51 PM

R51 Bruh have you heard of body dysmorphic disorder. Look at Meg Ryan, look at Mickey Rourke. MJ wished he liked like Prince I bet naturally but because he got the disorder and self hatred he compulsively couldn’t stop the procedures.

by Anonymousreply 54June 17, 2024 10:53 PM

Lifelong Prince fan here. I don't buy he never was into men or had male affairs. I think at a minimum he was bi, he obviously loved women but I think he also wanted to be one, or identified as one. If you look at the bands that came up around that time near him, like The Time, Jesse Johnson's Revue, people in the Revolution and New Power Generation - I think some of them dabbled with Prince. If you were a musician, he was very exacting and made them practice for hours if not days, at his studio at Paisley Park until he got the result he wanted. I'm sure he could be a brilliant little pain in the ass but brilliant he was. Not sure why he wouldn't accept the fact his baby was not viable and insisted that it be born, although his wife new it wouldn't be right. I think that's very cruel, to make them both go through that out of pride or some crazy belief that the eye in the sky would fix a genetic defect like that. Very sad. He never got over the death of his son and the marriage didn't last. Charlie Parker's anecdote about playing basketball with Prince at Eddie Murphy's house, with him and crew in full regalia is hilarious, and I believe it. Prince was very good at basketball although he wasn't tall. An unusual man, for sure. I don't think he was happy at the end and was very alone. Trapped in his addiction and pain. I wish he had had the strength to reach out and say "I NEED HELP!" before he OD'd.

by Anonymousreply 55June 17, 2024 11:05 PM

^Charlie Murphy, not Charlie Parker. LOL

by Anonymousreply 56June 17, 2024 11:07 PM

I think Prince was the original non binary hetero man but I really don’t think he was gay. I just don’t. He just seems to authentic to not live his truth.

by Anonymousreply 57June 17, 2024 11:09 PM

There is a new biography about Vanity (based on her diaries and released by her shady pastor Roxanne Harper). In the biography, Vanity writes about how manipulative Prince was with women (including her even though she was sort of the favorite). He said that he would deliberately lure women in and then cast them aside as soon as they swallowed the hook. There is a thread reviewing it on Lipstick Alley's Prince page...

by Anonymousreply 61June 17, 2024 11:27 PM

Prince wasn't diddling kids like MJ but clearly he both loved and yet had issues with women.

If PR the movie was semi autobiographical he was fucked up by his parents, as many are.

by Anonymousreply 62June 17, 2024 11:38 PM

R62 Hard to believe a social worker would stay in a relationship like that. Let alone expose her kid to it. He did a lot of embellishing, but it made for a perfect movie musical. I don’t think he was gay. He liked playing in women’s clothing and shoes. What used to be known as a transvestite.

by Anonymousreply 64June 18, 2024 1:01 AM

I acknowledge his musical talent. But I always found Prince's work to be dry (I just don't GAF, and never have), and Prince the person exceedingly pretentious. A complete and total turnoff. But I was never going to be interested. I was a tiny little kid when "Purple Rain" was released. It didn't do anything for me then, and it doesn't now.

He did write one song I like, however.

R65 I agree. I didn't think his music was anything special. At the same time, he acted like a "serious artist" - like he was Beethoven - and then he dressed up like a flamboyant pop star. And presented himself like a sex symbol (which he was, to some). He just wasn't relatable on any level, to me.

by Anonymousreply 78June 19, 2024 5:16 PM

Prince was most people’s favorite rockstar in the 80s.

by Anonymousreply 82June 19, 2024 5:44 PM

Maybe it's Prince's fans that were/are pretentious.

by Anonymousreply 83June 19, 2024 5:47 PM

His coolness intimidated me. So I was slightly scared of him and his music. But also loved him for staying in Minneapolis and for Purple Rain album/movie, which had such a huge influence on my generation.

I remember watching Oprah before movie released. Roger Ebert was her guest and predicted that movie would be a huge hit and that Prince would be a major sex symbol. Oprah made some crack that he’d be sex symbol for men and not women and strongly suggested he was gay.

Those were her early days on TV before she became St. Oprah. She would cut a bitch back then.

And, I don’t think Prince was gay. But imagine he’d be nonbinary or trans (lesbian) today.

by Anonymousreply 84June 19, 2024 5:49 PM

[quote] He just wasn't relatable on any level, to me.

He wasn't trying to be "relatable". He wasn't Lady Gaga or Taylor Swift.

by Anonymousreply 85June 19, 2024 6:08 PM

r78 Someone has to be 'relatable' in order for you to like their music? How odd.

by Anonymousreply 86June 19, 2024 6:13 PM

Loved his stuff until after he took back his name, and he got super Christian. I’m GenX so he was sort of a voice of the generation in a way. I even bought that triple-disc thing “emancipation”. Which I genuinely like

by Anonymousreply 87June 19, 2024 6:15 PM

I miss the 80s and 90s. The A list rock stars and (most) pop stars were so unique.

Prince, MJ, Madonna, Tina, Bruce, George Michael, Bowie, Cobain, Lauper, Whitney, Mariah, Thom Yorke, Bono, Sting, Axl.

Love or hate them or their respective music, but they were all fascinating humans in one way or another.

Prince maybe being the most unique among the group.

Even Gaga tried it for one of her eras.

I thought Prince seemed mentally off when he changed his name in the 90s. Seemed like such a pretentious move.

Wasn't he mad about being fleeced and took the artist from the legal term in his contract? Then he started his own record label or something?

So many people who are famous just cannot maintain grasp on reality. It will happen to Taylor Swift too

by Anonymousreply 102June 19, 2024 8:56 PM

It already happened to Taylor Swift. Why do you think she has so many songs with "Taylor's Version" attached to the title? She got Scooter Braun back for acquiring her songs. It was similar to the way Prince protested losing control of his artistry and feeling that he had lost control of his name, so he called himself "The Artist". It's all the same.

Lots of Prince fans dislike him. He's also accused of essentially leading Prince to his death, making him suspicious of medical treatment and the like.

by Anonymousreply 107June 19, 2024 10:13 PM

Was Prince really a weirdo who could only communicate with the Revolution via a hand puppet? I was shocked. He was referred to as “His Royal Badness” and seemed like a cooler customer prior to the movie. 🍿 And I remembered him from his ‘I Want to be Your Lover’ performances in his diaper days!

by Anonymousreply 108June 19, 2024 10:30 PM

I just don't understand how an obviously intelligent guy like Prince could fall into a quasi-cult like the JWs.

He’s absolutely the most talented musician ever. No one in the mainstream comes close.

He supposedly wrote a musical with Madonna that is hidden in his vault. It was scrapped when she married Guy and he wanted her nowhere near him. There are no vocals laid down on any song he wrote with Madonna, though, so they aren’t getting released.

by Anonymousreply 121June 20, 2024 12:49 AM

Elvis was not pretentious. Part of his charm is because he was so famous but humble and down to earth at the same time. A pretentious person would have accepted being called the King. Elvis did not.

by Anonymousreply 122June 20, 2024 1:04 AM

Prince was a pedophile, really?

by Anonymousreply 123June 20, 2024 1:22 AM

[quote] Prince was a pedophile, really?

Perhaps not a paedo, but his first wife was underage when they first started dating. Her mother apparently gave her approval.

by Anonymousreply 124June 20, 2024 1:28 AM

[quote] He’s absolutely the most talented musician ever.

There's so much hyperbole surrounding Prince.

I never understood these pop stars who were so into talking about God and then writing songs like Jack U Off.

by Anonymousreply 125June 20, 2024 1:48 AM

To those of you shitting on Prince's music; a red tag! A red tag on all your houses!!

by Anonymousreply 126June 20, 2024 3:31 AM

Queerbaiter extraordinaire.

by Anonymousreply 127June 20, 2024 5:26 AM

He adopted his first wife when she was 16, lived with her as his legal ward (grooming) and then married her as soon as she was 17. If he'd done that today he'd be loathed.

by Anonymousreply 128June 20, 2024 5:34 AM

Some men are just like that, like Chris Tucker.

by Anonymousreply 129June 20, 2024 1:01 PM

I don't think he was gay at all, but he was clearly (once upon a time) more than fine with gay people - he had a lesbian couple in The Revolution - hardly the work of a homophobe. Though I accept, for some straight men, there are double standards when it comes to two men or two women.

Unfortunately religion totally fucked him up, like it does so many people.

That run of albums from 1999 to Sign O' The Times has some of the greatest pop music ever made.

by Anonymousreply 130June 20, 2024 1:32 PM

I agree, and even after. "pussy control" is a great bop, but the later stuff is not as fun or "transgressive"

by Anonymousreply 131June 20, 2024 1:55 PM

This should have been huge hit.

by Anonymousreply 132June 20, 2024 2:50 PM

So I’ve found Prince to be very interesting and a national treasure. I think he was bi. He continued with the religious indoctrination of himself. He treated his wives very badly and was a control freak. He was superstitious and refused to educate himself and believed many conspiracies. Yes he was a drug user, and I’m not sure why he didn’t get a hip replacement. He was naturally intelligent and possibly autistic, he was sad quite a lot. He was a very good dancer to the point of causing harm to himself from dancing so much. He was a very good singer with a lot of range, and could play many instruments very well

by Anonymousreply 133June 20, 2024 5:41 PM

Maybe he was a musical genius but he was a manipulative prick who was abusive towards all those close to him. A good thing he didn’t get to be a daddy.

by Anonymousreply 134June 20, 2024 6:18 PM

Maybe fatherhood would have changed him

by Anonymousreply 135June 20, 2024 6:55 PM

I had no idea he hooked up with a 16 year old and married her . Creepy but he was creepy regardless.

by Anonymousreply 136June 20, 2024 7:00 PM

Prince was already a 7th Day Adventist. Yes, he switched to being a Jehovah’s Witness, but he wasn’t an atheist or Quaker.

He already was indoctrinated about it being wrong to be gay, etc.

by Anonymousreply 137June 20, 2024 7:24 PM

Whether or not he was indoctrinated against homosexuality, closet cases don’t get off sexually by watching women going at it. There’s no way he was gay.

by Anonymousreply 138June 20, 2024 7:53 PM

Uh, you guys know he hated fags, right?

by Anonymousreply 139June 20, 2024 9:19 PM

Some of you want your faves to be good people. Prince was abusive, and manipulative, but he was also warm, friendly, and liked helping other artists. I’m surprised some of you haven’t given his worse traits a pass because of his talent. I hate to tell you most celebrities you think are the nicest are the real monsters, and the complicated ones, like Prince, are far better people.

Both he and Madonna suffered being with Warner records. They are the ones who made him change his name to a symbol because he was so infuriated by them and their horrible management. He wrote Madonna hoping she could help him with them, but she was being treated just as bad, her music was not pushed and her sales never updated. Prince’s career would have been much bigger in the 90s had Warner been a good record company. Madonna has something like 13 songs which peaked at #2 or #3. Any other record company would have pushed those songs to #1.

by Anonymousreply 140June 20, 2024 10:44 PM

R139 Learn to read, idiot.

by Anonymousreply 141June 20, 2024 10:46 PM

There is too much filler in his overrated discography. His best songs are the ones he wrote for others.

by Anonymousreply 142June 20, 2024 11:27 PM

r140, yup

by Anonymousreply 143June 21, 2024 12:22 AM

Big Prince fan during his prime hit years. Some of the lesser known acts he produced and wrote for had some great songs albeit not hits like Taja Seville, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Elisa Fiorelli, Mica Paris and Tony LeMans.

by Anonymousreply 144June 21, 2024 2:29 AM

didn't know that

by Anonymousreply 145June 21, 2024 3:37 AM

R140 the reason those songs stalled at #2 and #3 is because there were songs that people liked more at the time, and they got to #1. That’s how the charts work.

by Anonymousreply 146June 21, 2024 4:11 AM

R146, that isn't really true. The Billboard charts place a LOT of weight on airplay (which doesn't make any sense to me). There are loads of songs that have topped the billboard hot 100 charts but haven't even sold a lot. It's because of airplay. The 90s Billboard charts were changed to favor airplay even more.

by Anonymousreply 147June 21, 2024 3:31 PM

I went to see him when he came to Philadelphia in 2003. The concert was great, he went over time and we had to leave as it was a work week. My friends who invited me had some great pot…they also got hold of some Coke and ecstasy which I didn’t partake of. But the pot was excellent. You have to be a serious musician fan to sit for three hours of Prince. I admired his guitar skills but three hours?

by Anonymousreply 148June 21, 2024 3:54 PM

R146 Maybe so, but other record companies would have leaned on radio to play them more to boost them to #1.

by Anonymousreply 149June 21, 2024 9:37 PM

Why did he become a Jacko level junkie?

by Anonymousreply 150June 22, 2024 12:58 AM

[quote] Why did he become a Jacko level junkie?

He suffered severe pain after years of wearing high-heeled shoes and performing acrobatics in concert. He then got addicted to the pain killers as a result.

by Anonymousreply 151June 22, 2024 1:11 AM

He wasn’t perfect. His relationship with Mayte was weird. He made a lot of good music but a lot of bad music too. He didn’t know when to stop. think he had a funny sense of humor.

I recall some awards ceremony in the late 80s that he won. it was at the height of the "Satan scare" insanity then and there were rumors that his "revolution" was a satan clan of some sort. When the time came for him to go up to the mic to accept the award he did some in a purple sequin monk's cowl followed by his like-garbed acolytes and without revealing his entire face spoke to the mic and "thanked jesus christ our lord and savior for everything" and walked off before the applause.

by Anonymousreply 157June 22, 2024 4:19 PM

that was weird

by Anonymousreply 158June 22, 2024 6:43 PM

R157 sigh I think they're saying Prince wasn't mixed with white(Satan) but pure black. A few light blacks, the rare 5% know they're black no matter their mixed heritage.

As if Prince not being 100% black would matter. Even if his ancestors, being from Louisiana, had Creole and French, Spanish, Indian, African ancestry mixed heritage he's still identifying as a black American.

Which makes me think, if a pill came out and you could take it and have your skin be a certain color would you take it? Would you still be a white or a black or brown if you changed your skin color?

War ? P?

by Anonymousreply 161June 22, 2024 9:00 PM

R159 than he is stupid, Prince obviously has a lot of European genes. Since both his parents are African American, they must both be very light skinned. And have European features.

Black Americans have about a quarter of European DNA, but some have much more. From Prince' s face, his eyes, nose etc. it is obvious he comes from these mixed race slaves who had been fathered by owner or foremen on plantation and it comes from both sides.

by Anonymousreply 162June 22, 2024 9:53 PM

He always seemed like a 5'2" little prick with abusive tendencies and an oversized ego.

Some of his songs were good - but a lot of his songs also sounded very much the same.

I feel like the myth and aura around him (which he built) were bigger than his actual talent.

It's like how he said he played 27 instruments - nah - it was various synthesizers/keyboard based variations, guitar variations and drum variations. That's fucking hype.

by Anonymousreply 172June 23, 2024 2:09 AM

R172 - and there is a massive middle ground between bitch/raging egomaniac and shrinking violet. It doesn't excuse bad behavior, which you seem to want to do.

Dolly Parton. Paul McCartney. Stevie Wonder. The music world is full of legends and successful people who weren't assholes.

by Anonymousreply 173June 23, 2024 4:35 AM

His concert film Sign ‘O’ The Times is incredible

by Anonymousreply 174June 23, 2024 4:44 AM

R173 Full? It is VERY rare, and HOW MANY TIMES has it been exposed that someone we all thought was so nice, sweet, loving was really a monster? Too many. And many times people we think are monsters turn out of be very complex people who have a lot of great qualities. Sociopaths are very good at the facade of being nice, charming, making you think they are the nicest person ever.

by Anonymousreply 175June 23, 2024 6:49 AM

Some people have feelings wonky-wonky, like a broken toy sometimes. They might not feel sad when others are sad, or happy when others are happy. It's okay, everyone's different! But doctors have a special word for grown-ups who have feelings wonky-wonky a lot. We call them "sociopaths." It's a big word, but it just means their feelings work a little differently.

R179 I think they're saying, a special type of font the devil used, maybe why he was called Old Scratch, looked like chicken scratch. You speak, it's similar to writing, words are powerful so don't say the name of evil. The devil blasts the pigment off people which is why they are white. Something if around the devil, they turned white from the being in the lake of fire. The 5% references a hedge fund.

I'm not so sure Prince would agree. He was more about the spirit of oneness.
