Will you be watching!? It starts at 8pm on CBS
Op I bet you’re jumping for joy
by Anonymous | reply 1 | June 16, 2024 8:57 PM |
We told you no separate threads! Jesus Christ
by Anonymous | reply 2 | June 16, 2024 8:58 PM |
Spectrum News 1 is on the “Red Carpet” (it’s blue this year) covering the Tony’s. At 6:30 you can watch the pre show on Pluto
by Anonymous | reply 3 | June 16, 2024 9:04 PM |
I'll be signing out for the evening -I'm on the West Coast and don't want spoilers.
Happy Tonys!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | June 16, 2024 9:16 PM |
Don’t the Tony’s air live out west but at 5pm?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | June 16, 2024 9:17 PM |
In LA they're on live at 5:00 and repeated at 8:00, r4.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 16, 2024 9:19 PM |
The Tonys are showing the same night as the House of the Dragon Season 2 premiere. Yeah, that was smart CBS. 🙄
by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 16, 2024 9:19 PM |
This basic bitch has basic cable, so only the 8:00 replay is available.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 16, 2024 9:22 PM |
What r6 said. I remember watching the show live at 5pm in LA back in 2019.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 16, 2024 9:23 PM |
R8 it airs on CBS. You don’t even need cable to watch.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | June 16, 2024 9:23 PM |
R7 The Tony’s has a niche audience. The only people who watch it are theatre fans. It isn’t like the Emmys or Grammys or Oscars. Almost everyone watches tv and movies and listens to music. Not everyone goes to the theatre or follows any of it.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 16, 2024 9:24 PM |
I can't wait to cringe at Ariana DeBose's opening number.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | June 16, 2024 9:24 PM |
Is Noah Galvin trying to show off his manicure?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | June 16, 2024 9:34 PM |
So many talks of channels here. For those of us on the east coast, it's CBS at eight for the live show right?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 16, 2024 9:35 PM |
R14 yes. And it’s on CBS out West at 5pm. It’s on CBS all over the country.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | June 16, 2024 9:38 PM |
Tonight would be a good time for Eddie Redmayne to officially come out.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | June 16, 2024 9:42 PM |
Thanks Marcia GAY HARDen R15
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 16, 2024 9:43 PM |
Why would Skylar be closeted?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 16, 2024 9:58 PM |
That’s Queer Joy, r20!
by Anonymous | reply 21 | June 16, 2024 10:17 PM |
Who’s the woman interviewing the stars alongside Frank DiLella? She’s actually not bad, at least compared with some of his red carpet co-hosts in the past.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | June 16, 2024 10:19 PM |
R19 he isn’t. Just DL gays with their wishful thinking.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | June 16, 2024 10:20 PM |
R11: Broadway loves gays and blacks. Hollywood barely tolerates blacks and despises gays.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | June 16, 2024 10:23 PM |
I just hope the Broadway League doesn’t go for these one-note screaming performances like Sarah Paulson and Kara Young.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | June 16, 2024 10:25 PM |
R25 theater isn’t the same in general. It’s live entertainment. A completely different monster than film or television. TV is all about the writers. Films are all about the Directors. Theater is all about the actor. Not just any actor can do theater. Some actors rely on the editing.
Also, theater isn’t released all over the country. A tv show can be viewed by anyone anywhere. A film can be viewed by anyone anywhere. But to see a play or musical you have to go to it because it’s live in one location.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | June 16, 2024 10:28 PM |
Oh, they just said her name. Ana Villafane.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | June 16, 2024 10:28 PM |
R28 she’s an actress.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | June 16, 2024 10:29 PM |
The Gay Super Bowl.
If you talked to most of my friends, you’d think the world is on pins and needles, wondering who will win.
A friend invited us over to watch but insisted we could not speak except during commercials.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | June 16, 2024 10:30 PM |
Sounds like a difficult host to please, tbh. You tell everyone to STFU once they actually start chatting loudly, not beforehand. Lol.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | June 16, 2024 10:35 PM |
I'd like to see Daniel Radcliffe win for Merrily.
He's come a long way since Potter and deserves recognition for taking chances and not simply cashing those checks.
Miracle Workers is hilarious.

Absolutely, r32.

ACT One is on Pluto right now. They award the “lesser” categories
by Anonymous | reply 34 | June 16, 2024 10:41 PM |
Suffs wins its first Tony for best book. Probably be the lone win for the show this evening as the winds are leaning toward Outsiders
by Anonymous | reply 35 | June 16, 2024 10:42 PM |
I don't know any of the shows, actors, stars or anyone involved. I feel so old.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | June 16, 2024 10:45 PM |
Skylar Astin is absolutely handsome, though I do think he looks better with scruff / facial hair. He looks like porcelain without it.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | June 16, 2024 10:45 PM |
Is that useless bitch Hillary there?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | June 16, 2024 10:46 PM |
R36 if you don’t follow theater why would you even watch?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | June 16, 2024 10:48 PM |
Angelina Jolie is there so cameras keep spanning to her.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | June 16, 2024 10:48 PM |
The pre-show awards are being handed out with the utmost ease and dignity. Glad to see that! Wish they were all part of the regular show though (like the old days).
by Anonymous | reply 41 | June 16, 2024 10:50 PM |
I don't know any of the shows, actors, songs or presenters. I feel so old. Can we have an R&H revival?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | June 16, 2024 10:51 PM |
Amy Ryan had some scenes with Angelina Jolie in CHANGELING years ago. Maybe they’ll reconnect.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | June 16, 2024 10:52 PM |
So missed the first 15 minutes. What other awards did they give out besides best book?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | June 16, 2024 10:53 PM |

Chita Rivera is being honored tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | June 16, 2024 11:06 PM |
Choreography isn't considered big enough to be awarded on the CBS broadcast? Ugh.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | June 16, 2024 11:11 PM |
No, it’s not!
I may as well have Property of Pre-Show Awards [italic]tattooed on my ass!
by Anonymous | reply 54 | June 16, 2024 11:17 PM |
Well then they should honor Tony Mordente as well. Will both be on the Oscars In Memoriam next year?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | June 16, 2024 11:24 PM |
Sarah Paulson seems insufferable to me. She comes off so pretentious and stuck up in interviews
by Anonymous | reply 56 | June 16, 2024 11:24 PM |
He will. She won’t!
by Anonymous | reply 57 | June 16, 2024 11:25 PM |
Holland was having a side convo with her 2 woman play co-star (the NY1 reporter) while Frank interviewed Sarah.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | June 16, 2024 11:31 PM |
The 94 revival of Damn Yankees was the first show I saw on Broadway. Jack O’Brien revised the book. Apparently Mr. Abbot didn’t love it.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | June 16, 2024 11:31 PM |
Sarah came off rude to her costar
by Anonymous | reply 60 | June 16, 2024 11:32 PM |
Jolie is one of the producers of Outsiders. They're looking for it to be a national goldmine and closing it on Broadway in a year. It's in a mid-size house so even full price sold out it brings in peanuts to these people.
I was told this by somebody who works front of the house but it's hard for me to believe if it wins Best Musical.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | June 16, 2024 11:33 PM |
Sarah Paulson was annoying in that segment with Julianne Hough. Yikes
by Anonymous | reply 62 | June 16, 2024 11:33 PM |

Jesus Christ, you know Billy Porter is going to be bitching about being relegated to Pluto.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | June 16, 2024 11:40 PM |
Was Leslie not standing for Billy Porter?
by Anonymous | reply 66 | June 16, 2024 11:44 PM |
Billy Porter looks like he is auditioning for a revival of "Dracula".
by Anonymous | reply 67 | June 16, 2024 11:44 PM |
Ms. Porter does not audition!
by Anonymous | reply 68 | June 16, 2024 11:45 PM |
I didn't know Ben Platt partnered with a hobbit.

R71 Are you referencing Ben Platt's husband ?
by Anonymous | reply 72 | June 16, 2024 11:54 PM |

Ariana pre-recorded her vocals this year
by Anonymous | reply 77 | June 17, 2024 12:02 AM |
So no chance Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey will co-present an award? Fellow Travelers was Paramount + so at least there’s corporate synergy.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | June 17, 2024 12:02 AM |
Opening number is awful!

This is embarrassing.
Remember this? Not a fan of NPH, but this was great…
by Anonymous | reply 83 | June 17, 2024 12:03 AM |
This is an atrocious opening number. "If you acted in your high school play". Sweet Jesus.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | June 17, 2024 12:03 AM |
Was that a performance by North West?
by Anonymous | reply 85 | June 17, 2024 12:04 AM |
Is it possible that Ben Platt can get uglier every time I see him.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | June 17, 2024 12:04 AM |
She is so charmless.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | June 17, 2024 12:06 AM |
That opening number tracks for Tom Kitt and Amanda Greene.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | June 17, 2024 12:06 AM |

She's beautiful if not long-winded.
by Anonymous | reply 180 | June 17, 2024 12:48 AM |
The speeches are quite long this year (?)
Did they vote to give them more time?
by Anonymous | reply 181 | June 17, 2024 12:48 AM |
This is a horrible speech. Worthy of taking away the award tonight. But there was no stopping the box office behemoth that is Purlie Victorious. 🙄
by Anonymous | reply 182 | June 17, 2024 12:48 AM |
Jonathan Groff believes his own publicity.
by Anonymous | reply 183 | June 17, 2024 12:48 AM |
Yes... Merrily We Roll Along!
by Anonymous | reply 184 | June 17, 2024 12:48 AM |
Oh! It’s the little Turncoat Absentee!
by Anonymous | reply 185 | June 17, 2024 12:49 AM |
Ugh I can't stand this tiny dicked queen.
by Anonymous | reply 186 | June 17, 2024 12:49 AM |
Jonathan Groff is HOT!
by Anonymous | reply 187 | June 17, 2024 12:49 AM |
Groff has definitely sucked off Harry P.
by Anonymous | reply 188 | June 17, 2024 12:49 AM |
His voice is small.
by Anonymous | reply 189 | June 17, 2024 12:49 AM |
What's this play called? Fat Chick and two mediocre gays?
by Anonymous | reply 190 | June 17, 2024 12:50 AM |
Jonathon Groff is one Ruffles chip away from obesity.
by Anonymous | reply 191 | June 17, 2024 12:50 AM |
You guys are making me laugh so hard tonight - please, keep it up !
by Anonymous | reply 192 | June 17, 2024 12:51 AM |
Kara Young is exquisite in her chartreuse gown. Sheer perfection!
Congratulations!
by Anonymous | reply 193 | June 17, 2024 12:51 AM |
THIS is the revelatory production of Merrily We Roll Along?
by Anonymous | reply 194 | June 17, 2024 12:51 AM |
Best performance by far!
by Anonymous | reply 195 | June 17, 2024 12:52 AM |
Ben and Beanie and Paul M. will need to top this performance in the Merrily We Roll Along film to be released-- in 17 years.
by Anonymous | reply 196 | June 17, 2024 12:52 AM |
He is as gay as his dick is small.
by Anonymous | reply 197 | June 17, 2024 12:52 AM |
I’m taking notes
by Anonymous | reply 198 | June 17, 2024 12:53 AM |
Groff definitely thinks a lot of himself.
by Anonymous | reply 199 | June 17, 2024 12:53 AM |
Groff's pants keep heading North like my Grandpa's do.
by Anonymous | reply 200 | June 17, 2024 12:53 AM |
Give Merrily all the Tonys now and let's forget the pretense of a contest.
by Anonymous | reply 201 | June 17, 2024 12:53 AM |
R195 nope. Hells Kitchen was amazing.
by Anonymous | reply 202 | June 17, 2024 12:53 AM |
Groff is a treasure - you nasty bitches! 😂
Kara Young seems insufferable.
by Anonymous | reply 203 | June 17, 2024 12:54 AM |
Merrily deserves no Tony’s. So far the winners have been great.
by Anonymous | reply 204 | June 17, 2024 12:54 AM |
The performances are shorter than the speeches.
by Anonymous | reply 205 | June 17, 2024 12:54 AM |
^ I hope R202 is being sarcastic.
by Anonymous | reply 206 | June 17, 2024 12:55 AM |
R204 I think it's time for your medication, hun.

In his own helium-inflated egocentric mind R203. The rest of us live in the real world.
by Anonymous | reply 208 | June 17, 2024 12:55 AM |
Merrily was…a revelation
by Anonymous | reply 209 | June 17, 2024 12:56 AM |
Sometime ago Groff decided he's Raoul Espadrille 2.0.
by Anonymous | reply 210 | June 17, 2024 12:56 AM |
I cannot stand her as a host.
by Anonymous | reply 211 | June 17, 2024 12:56 AM |
What this show needs is a surprise appearance by Princess Kate, wearing her flying saucer hat so she won't be lost on stage.
by Anonymous | reply 212 | June 17, 2024 12:57 AM |
Is Ariana auditioning for Gussie Carnegie?
by Anonymous | reply 213 | June 17, 2024 12:57 AM |
Groff believes his own hype. He’s been besties with Lea Michel for many years. That says a lot.
by Anonymous | reply 214 | June 17, 2024 12:57 AM |
Why are the Play awards so early?
by Anonymous | reply 215 | June 17, 2024 12:57 AM |
He is a fraud. The fact that he can maintain a friendship with that horrid girl Glee is all you need to know about him.
by Anonymous | reply 216 | June 17, 2024 12:57 AM |
Something feels "off" about the show.
by Anonymous | reply 217 | June 17, 2024 12:57 AM |
Lindsay has missed 25% of the run. 72 performances. That’s nine weeks.
by Anonymous | reply 218 | June 17, 2024 12:57 AM |
R215 they do Play awards first and then the musical awards
by Anonymous | reply 219 | June 17, 2024 12:58 AM |
I keep reading it as Puerile Victorius.

by Anonymous | reply 222 | June 17, 2024 12:59 AM |
Where is this groff hate coming from?
Over the years on here, I’ve only read that he’s down to earth and kind. Who gives a shit if he’s friends with Lea Michele?
by Anonymous | reply 223 | June 17, 2024 12:59 AM |
[quote]Is Ariana auditioning for Gussie Carnegie?
No R213, she's auditioning to be Phylicia Rashad.
by Anonymous | reply 224 | June 17, 2024 12:59 AM |
The speeches tonight SUCK.
by Anonymous | reply 225 | June 17, 2024 1:00 AM |
I’m kind of surprised the Best Director of a Play award is presented on the main broadcast. You’d think CBS would deem it “not glamorous enough.”
by Anonymous | reply 226 | June 17, 2024 1:00 AM |
Maria Friedman upset
by Anonymous | reply 227 | June 17, 2024 1:00 AM |

[quote]Over the years on here, I’ve only read that he’s down to earth and kind.
And Groff posted every single one of them, R223.

by Anonymous | reply 238 | June 17, 2024 1:02 AM |
They made The Outsiders into a musical? It sucked donkey dick both as a book and that movie.
by Anonymous | reply 239 | June 17, 2024 1:02 AM |
I bet a LOT of women have lifted her up.
by Anonymous | reply 240 | June 17, 2024 1:02 AM |

Patrick Wilson and his big dick.
by Anonymous | reply 244 | June 17, 2024 1:04 AM |
So does this mean "The Outsiders" has Best Musical in the bag...?
by Anonymous | reply 245 | June 17, 2024 1:04 AM |
Oh shit... another lousy performance
by Anonymous | reply 246 | June 17, 2024 1:04 AM |
Outsiders has 1 good song and a bunch of filler
by Anonymous | reply 247 | June 17, 2024 1:05 AM |
Back in the day, we regulars would dress up to attend the annual Tony watch party at The Film Center Cafe on Ninth Avenue in Hell's Kitchen. TFCC is long gone, along with a share of us, but the energy hovering over the neighborhood tonight is incredible!
We are so proud of you, Alicia, and thank you for putting us HK imps-- young, old and departed -- on Cloud Nine tonight and always. So proud!
by Anonymous | reply 248 | June 17, 2024 1:05 AM |
I found a woman to knock up so I'm "straight"...........Signed, Grant and Daniel.
by Anonymous | reply 249 | June 17, 2024 1:05 AM |
I’d like to pretend that Patrick Wilson will take home Jonathon Groff tonight and rail him senseless.
by Anonymous | reply 250 | June 17, 2024 1:05 AM |
Paul Castree!
by Anonymous | reply 251 | June 17, 2024 1:05 AM |
Poor Maria Friedman.
I blame Patti LuPone. She’s a Tony voter and seems the type to vote against Maria.
She probably lost a role to her at some point
by Anonymous | reply 252 | June 17, 2024 1:06 AM |
Ah, next up, the very straight Grant Gustin.
by Anonymous | reply 253 | June 17, 2024 1:06 AM |
Miss Taymor has spoken her truth and no one - and I mean no one - will oppress her power.

At least this number has a hot daddy.
by Anonymous | reply 255 | June 17, 2024 1:06 AM |
Even the CW didn't want Grant Gustin anymore.
by Anonymous | reply 256 | June 17, 2024 1:07 AM |
This Water for Elephants number seems like the type to inexplicably make its way to into the Sunday Showtunes rotation at Sidetrack in Chicago to the consternation of all.
by Anonymous | reply 257 | June 17, 2024 1:07 AM |
Surprised we haven’t been lectured about Gaza yet.
Kara Young was on the verge but no direct mention so far.
by Anonymous | reply 258 | June 17, 2024 1:08 AM |
Group songs NEVER work on TV broadcasts. They need to mike everyone.
by Anonymous | reply 259 | June 17, 2024 1:08 AM |
That hammer is the closest Grant Gustin will get to Thor.
by Anonymous | reply 260 | June 17, 2024 1:08 AM |
Who's that hot daddy R255?
by Anonymous | reply 261 | June 17, 2024 1:09 AM |
I'm performing at the Tony Awards tonight. What are you guys doing?
Oh.
by Anonymous | reply 262 | June 17, 2024 1:09 AM |
When does Lindsay Mendez get her Tony?
by Anonymous | reply 263 | June 17, 2024 1:09 AM |
Kudos to the wardrobe department who put overweight Grant in a baggy suit.
by Anonymous | reply 264 | June 17, 2024 1:09 AM |
I am so getting replaced by Microsoft Copilot.
by Anonymous | reply 265 | June 17, 2024 1:10 AM |
Ariana should have used Copilot for that opening
by Anonymous | reply 266 | June 17, 2024 1:10 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 267 | June 17, 2024 1:10 AM |
Grant isn't fat.
by Anonymous | reply 268 | June 17, 2024 1:11 AM |
You cunts who call Groff and Gustin fat are the problem. Love them or hate them, that's just dumb.
by Anonymous | reply 269 | June 17, 2024 1:11 AM |
But they ARE fat, Blanche/R269!
by Anonymous | reply 270 | June 17, 2024 1:12 AM |
Does Sonia Friedman have many enemies in the pool of Tony voters? Maybe they all refused to vote for her sister.
by Anonymous | reply 271 | June 17, 2024 1:13 AM |
I think it's cute how all the casts run off stage as they blow kisses at the camera with this "Hey, look, Ma, I'm on TV!" kind of enthusiasm (because for most of them, I'm sure that's exactly how they're feeling).
by Anonymous | reply 272 | June 17, 2024 1:13 AM |
Christ on a fucking crutch Platt's disco heels.
by Anonymous | reply 273 | June 17, 2024 1:14 AM |

$10.00 for a thrill they’ll never forget?
by Anonymous | reply 276 | June 17, 2024 1:15 AM |
Are they still talking about high school students? Maybe that's why Broadway today feels amateurish.
by Anonymous | reply 277 | June 17, 2024 1:15 AM |
Will Harry Potter throw Rowling under the table?
by Anonymous | reply 278 | June 17, 2024 1:15 AM |
Daniel Radcliffe!
by Anonymous | reply 279 | June 17, 2024 1:15 AM |
Anthony. Please give ME a thrill I’ll never forget!
by Anonymous | reply 280 | June 17, 2024 1:15 AM |
"Yasss" God, shut up bitch. I know its not right but I can't stand that man. Oh yay Daniel won.
by Anonymous | reply 281 | June 17, 2024 1:15 AM |
When Ben called him CHarlie, Daniel looked heartbroken!
by Anonymous | reply 282 | June 17, 2024 1:15 AM |
YES!!! Go, Daniel!!!
by Anonymous | reply 283 | June 17, 2024 1:15 AM |
Harry Potter needs to thank JK Rowling for standing up to the THEMz.
by Anonymous | reply 284 | June 17, 2024 1:16 AM |

The Mendez haters with all their statistics must be furiously jacking off at the television right now.

by Anonymous | reply 302 | June 17, 2024 1:20 AM |
That red dress is homophobic
by Anonymous | reply 303 | June 17, 2024 1:20 AM |
Anthony Ramos and Ben Platt didn't even look at or acknowledge each other. Shady.
by Anonymous | reply 304 | June 17, 2024 1:20 AM |
Ben Platt calling out Charlie Kringas first was shitty. Way to make someone else’s success about you.
by Anonymous | reply 305 | June 17, 2024 1:20 AM |
Shut up and get off the stage
by Anonymous | reply 306 | June 17, 2024 1:20 AM |
Ok, another long speech...

Anthony Ramos makes my skin crawl.
by Anonymous | reply 310 | June 17, 2024 1:21 AM |
Radcliffe won.
This is Groff's third nomination. I wonder if he'll be bitter if he doesn't win.
by Anonymous | reply 311 | June 17, 2024 1:21 AM |
She should have used her iPad.
by Anonymous | reply 312 | June 17, 2024 1:22 AM |
Is Jessica Lange there?
by Anonymous | reply 313 | June 17, 2024 1:22 AM |
R313 yes they showed her earlier she’s near the aisle
by Anonymous | reply 314 | June 17, 2024 1:22 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 315 | June 17, 2024 1:23 AM |
Long winded. Jeez.
by Anonymous | reply 316 | June 17, 2024 1:23 AM |
312, she should have used a maxi-pad. Her dress was originally green.
by Anonymous | reply 317 | June 17, 2024 1:23 AM |
Wow..Anthony SURE didn’t give Ben the time of day
by Anonymous | reply 318 | June 17, 2024 1:23 AM |

Illinoise lost me at the insect wings.
by Anonymous | reply 320 | June 17, 2024 1:25 AM |
Amazing to see Ricky Ubeda all grown up. Loved him on So You Think You Can Dance years ago.
by Anonymous | reply 321 | June 17, 2024 1:25 AM |
Oh God - THIS is Illinoise? They're just winging the "choreography" tonight, aren't they?
by Anonymous | reply 322 | June 17, 2024 1:26 AM |
This is beautiful. The person bitching all night is clearly not a fan of theater. Stay in your lane. Go turn on Avengers.
by Anonymous | reply 323 | June 17, 2024 1:26 AM |
Ilinoise looks like a cow-town jr. college production.
by Anonymous | reply 324 | June 17, 2024 1:27 AM |
Time to change your tampon, R323
by Anonymous | reply 325 | June 17, 2024 1:27 AM |

For the first time it’s occurring to me this must all be a really long evening for the elderly. Even if they’re just sitting there.
I think I’d go hang out in the lobby.
by Anonymous | reply 327 | June 17, 2024 1:28 AM |
God awful.
by Anonymous | reply 328 | June 17, 2024 1:28 AM |
R323, people have different opinions. And there are multiple dudes on here bitching cause this has been very mid so far. I liked this number tho.

You need a chest to do the shirtless thing. He looked ridiculous.
by Anonymous | reply 330 | June 17, 2024 1:28 AM |
Can we have best actress in a play now?
by Anonymous | reply 331 | June 17, 2024 1:29 AM |
And coming up, yet another "edgy" Cabaret revival with even more cross-dressing, vintage clothes, bad makeup, rouged tits and bad choreography and questionable acting.
by Anonymous | reply 332 | June 17, 2024 1:29 AM |
[quote]You need a chest to do the shirtless thing.
I'm not defending his look, but he was wearing a shirt. It was skin-tone.
by Anonymous | reply 333 | June 17, 2024 1:30 AM |
I loved the Illinoise number. Very nice.
by Anonymous | reply 334 | June 17, 2024 1:30 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 339 | June 17, 2024 1:33 AM |
Ricky Ubeda is truly gifted - the way he moves is stunning. I hope he gets more meaningful work after this. It’s so hard for dancers.
by Anonymous | reply 340 | June 17, 2024 1:34 AM |
MUFFS ? ? ?
by Anonymous | reply 341 | June 17, 2024 1:35 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 344 | June 17, 2024 1:35 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 345 | June 17, 2024 1:37 AM |
Yes, especially Chicago.
by Anonymous | reply 346 | June 17, 2024 1:37 AM |
It still amazes me that the tony for best choreography is not on the main broadcast.
by Anonymous | reply 347 | June 17, 2024 1:38 AM |
The closeup is not Eddie Redmayne's friend.
by Anonymous | reply 348 | June 17, 2024 1:38 AM |
How many revivals of Caberet do we need?
by Anonymous | reply 349 | June 17, 2024 1:38 AM |
This is reminding me just how awful Redmayne was in the show. Mannered, disconnected from any actual human impulse, and just yucky.
by Anonymous | reply 350 | June 17, 2024 1:39 AM |
R339, Gatsby was only nominated for Best Costume Design, which it won.
by Anonymous | reply 351 | June 17, 2024 1:39 AM |
Did Eddie Redmayne take the brown acid?
by Anonymous | reply 352 | June 17, 2024 1:39 AM |
I don't think I've ever seen Bebe Neuwirth ever wear her hair other than the way she's wearing it tonight.
by Anonymous | reply 353 | June 17, 2024 1:40 AM |
Anyone who's seen this Cabaret: Is Eddie Redmayne as charmless as he seems in this number?
He's laboring and laboring up there, but I don't see a character.
by Anonymous | reply 354 | June 17, 2024 1:41 AM |
I didn’t like Redmayne in this revival either. I actually find it weird all the praise he gets.
by Anonymous | reply 355 | June 17, 2024 1:41 AM |
R350: Basically what he’s like in every role.

His Oscar win is one of my least favorite in the last decade.
by Anonymous | reply 357 | June 17, 2024 1:41 AM |
I remember that story years ago about Eddie hitting on an actor right in front of his wife.
by Anonymous | reply 358 | June 17, 2024 1:41 AM |
It was a knock off network TV version of DDL's My Left Foot performance.

R357: He sat in a chair and the computer did all the rest.

His wife is very homely and probably lavender.

They’re advertising PREP on the Tony’s, as if seeing Ben Platt isn’t enough and that elf he’s marrying aren’t enough to prevent STDs.
by Anonymous | reply 362 | June 17, 2024 1:44 AM |
The advertisers know the Tony demographic; the commercials are geared to gays.
by Anonymous | reply 363 | June 17, 2024 1:46 AM |
I get the hate for the hostess but I thought she was actually good last year. I don’t know what happened. She’s so fucking lame, charmless, and phony.
by Anonymous | reply 364 | June 17, 2024 1:47 AM |
God. Rannells. Somebody break out the wide angle lens for his closeups.
by Anonymous | reply 365 | June 17, 2024 1:47 AM |
R354, in this production, the idea is that the cabaret and most especially the Emcee, blend into support for the Nazis. The Emcee is explicitly the villain of the piece. It’s a stupid take, but if that’s what you’re doing, he should draw the audience in before he reveals his true colors. Redmayne gets really into the physicality and the weirdness and it’s really not good.
Rankin could be good in a decent production. Neuhirth is great despite heavyhanded direction that sends her up up up past the Russell Hotel in her big number.

Christ, 87 producers.
by Anonymous | reply 370 | June 17, 2024 1:52 AM |
I was going to say the same, R369.
by Anonymous | reply 371 | June 17, 2024 1:52 AM |
I just saw Jess Lange looking as loopy and drunk and as ever at an aisle seat. Does she play a drunk still sexually alive woman of a certain age in this play too?

by Anonymous | reply 375 | June 17, 2024 1:55 AM |
Elle Fanning came back. I don’t know why she is cast in so many productions. She and her sister are below average in looks and talent.

This whole show seems under rehearsed
by Anonymous | reply 380 | June 17, 2024 1:57 AM |
I have to believe Kevin Spacey tried to have his way with Corey during his one memorable season on House of Cards. I’m guessing it wasn’t rape rape but he likely tried to cop a feel.
by Anonymous | reply 381 | June 17, 2024 1:57 AM |
Neuwirth stole Ben Platt's disco heels.
by Anonymous | reply 382 | June 17, 2024 1:57 AM |
Chita Rivera was a talent but she played the same character in every performance.

SUFFS = More like fat chicks in hats.
by Anonymous | reply 434 | June 17, 2024 2:18 AM |
I dunno. These lyrics seem like they're talking to children. And I expect more fire from suffragettes. This gives Mormon tabernacle choir doing protest music vibes. But I have not seen the musical so perhaps I"m being unfair.
by Anonymous | reply 435 | June 17, 2024 2:19 AM |
Suffs looks like it sucks.

Apparently she gets out of the wheelchair and walks in the show.
by Anonymous | reply 437 | June 17, 2024 2:19 AM |
I loved Stereophonic. Found it worthy of the hype and then some.
I've bought a ticket to see it again.
One of the women should have won featured actress. Sarah Pidgeon had the showier role as the Stevie Nicks character, but I was more affected by Juliana Canfield as the Christine McVie character, who loves people but is wounded by multiple rejections — she had several moving moments, including a nice monologue about the movie Don't Look Now and grief. (And she did a note-perfect British accent; I'm kind of an accent nerd.)
by Anonymous | reply 438 | June 17, 2024 2:20 AM |
Is it me or is this audience way rowdier than in previous years?

So if midwest tourists are watching this, and planning their summer vacation to NYC, which show do you think they're going to buy tickers for ? Most of these performances - if not all - suck big time.
So once again, they will buy tix to MJ since 'Phantom' is gone.

Don't you get the feeling we ought to be reporting Sarah Paulson for elder abuse.
I just get the feeling that her relationship with Taylor isn't all sunshine and roses for Taylor.

R515 They still handled it way better than the Oscars; at least we can see who's being honored. I'd still rather see clips, though.

I didn't know Linda Balgord had died. How sad. She got raves for her portrayal of 'Norma Desmond' in the first US tour in 1996.

I guess CBS deserves credit for not cutting the show off at 11pm like they used to and allowing it to run all the way to the end.
by Anonymous | reply 600 | June 17, 2024 3:16 AM |
And I am telling you.......we're closing..........
by Anonymous | reply 601 | June 17, 2024 3:16 AM |
Brody Grant of The Outsiders should have won for Best Actor in a Musical. I like Jonathan Groff, but Brody deserved the Tony much more.
by Anonymous | reply 602 | June 17, 2024 3:16 AM |
The opening number of the Tonys is always great. What happened this year? The producers didn't give Ariana DeBose their best.
by Anonymous | reply 603 | June 17, 2024 3:17 AM |
Eden Espinosa should have won for Best Actress in a Musical. "Lempicka" was outstanding.
by Anonymous | reply 604 | June 17, 2024 3:18 AM |
From a commercial standpoint, the love was spread around pretty evenly. No show walked away with an armful of awards, and a lot of productions will post "TONY WINNER" on their marquees tomorrow. It may keep some of them open a little longer.
Personally, seeing the clips from the shows, I was only surprised by Water For Elephants and Illinoise -both of which interested me more than I thought they would. Hard pass on Hell's Kitchen. I already wanted to see Suffs, and I guess I'd give Outsiders a chance. Sadly, I'm going to New York in the fall and the only show the group booked was Tommy, which is another hard (HARD) pass for me.
Stereophonic? All the raves, but there wasn't a single clip or performance that looked even remotely interesting to me.
