Jillian Michaels leaves "too woke" California

“California got too crazy for me,” Michaels said Wednesday on “The Sage Steele Show.”

“I grew up here. I’m a woman. I’m a gay woman. My mom’s a Jew. My dad’s an Arab. I have a Black kid. And believe it or not, my son is half Latin, even though he doesn’t look like it,” Michaels told host Sage Steele. “I hold a million cards in your game of woke victimology poker. And when I leave California, maybe you’ve lost your f—ing mind. Just maybe! Like when you have me running from home, maybe it’s gone way too far.”

Michaels, who now lives in Miami, insisted she hasn’t changed but “the world around me is shifting and I haven’t moved.”

“Some of these laws that are passing here are absolutely f—ing mind-boggling,” Michaels said. “In relation to crime, protecting our kids, like, we’re decriminalizing everything, which arguably I would probably be okay with but we’re not regulating any of it. So it’s like, okay, you’re gonna decriminalize sex work but only so women can loiter on the streets, not to keep them safe, not to have them pay taxes, not to make them, you know, regularly check for STDs, not to take away the pimps out of the equation. Like if you made that argument to me, I’d be like, ‘well, yes, of course.’”

“I could be liberal! I could go there with you! I grew up this way!” she added.

“Or the fact that a 12-year-old child can be put on off-label cancer drugs to irreparably change their body,” she said. “Again, if my son came to me and said, ‘Mom’ — or my daughter — ‘I think I’m trans.’ I’d say okay, you know, like, you want to dress this way. You want me to call you whatever the heck you want, dress, fine. Explore it. I love you. I’m cool, do you as long as we’re safe, but we’re not changing your body until it’s fully developed. I’m sorry. Conversation’s over. Can’t get a f—ing tattoo!”

How does she have a black son who's half-Latin?

by Anonymousreply 11June 14, 2024 4:45 PM
protecting our kids

You mean like requiring them to attend school? Requiring them to be vaccinated? Requiring them to meet certain standards of performance in order to graduate?

I ask these questions specifically because the ultra-right MAGA loons want to deny EVERYONE the ability to "protect our kids" in the very, very few ways we have historically been able to put these absolutely minimal protections in place.

This is not a wacky liberal Californian issue. This is an issue with the people who simply think the rules apply only and exclusively to others. This crazy bitch even admits as much when she says she's on board with everything the liberals have fought for and obtained (like legalization of sex work, decriminalization of marijuana) but, apparently, only for [italic]her[/italic] as she proves immediately by saying "but we’re not regulating any of it." Well. duh. That's the point of decriminalization. She wants her personal freedom to do whatever she wants, but everyone else has to be subject to regulation. Got it.

I'll tell you why she left California: she couldn't make the grade. And now she's butt-hurt that Californians aren't kissing her fat ass and begging her to stay or come back, instead (and you can all join in with me here) bidding her a hale and hearty adios, good luck and don't let the door hit you on the ass as she takes her crotchfruit to Florida in hopes of fitting in there.

Next up, she'll be whining about how Florida was awful but she sold her beautiful home in California and can now only afford a shack in Temcula.
How does she have a black son who's half-Latin?

By a Black Latino man, Rose? Or, if adopted, one parent was American Black and the other Latino.

Her statements are perfectly sensible. And many share those concerns over what people like Scott Weiner have been doing to the state.

by Anonymousreply 15June 14, 2024 4:57 PM

This is what I don't understand. I get it, some of the (for lack of a better word) "woke" stuff can be annoying and head scratching, but is it anymore annoying and head scratching than the stuff that's happening over on the other side?

Sometimes California goes over the top, but your answer to that is to move to Florida? They're not over the top there? C'mon girl.

It all just seems (as the kids say) sus.

Wait till she gets flooded or discovers it's expensive to actually live there.

by Anonymousreply 17June 14, 2024 4:59 PM

Whether you like or not she’s calling out facts. California keeps passing legislation without any real care for the ramifications.

by Anonymousreply 21June 14, 2024 5:14 PM

R19 agreed! Florida is just as whacked out. My question is though how is California able to push most of these bills through? I’ve seen some outrageous bills get the green light in the past few years. People in CA are liberal but I feel the majority of the population there are moderates not extremists.

by Anonymousreply 22June 14, 2024 5:14 PM

Most people who move from CA do it for COL reasons, but wrap it up in a “CA too woke” package to save face.

by Anonymousreply 23June 14, 2024 5:16 PM

Florida has nothing to do with her reasoning. Florida sucks. But that in no way means California isn't too woke and a horrible place to live. If you want to debate stick to the argument.

by Anonymousreply 24June 14, 2024 5:24 PM

CA has gone too far left and it is way too expensive. My best friend wants me to move to Ocean Springs MS where I could get free rent in a big house. But Mississippi. Ocean Springs is pretty. I'm considering it but it will be a huge culture shock. I'm an old woman on SS and very much alone here in Northern CA. MS would be much cheaper but I don't know if I can handle the hurricanes and the bless your hearts and the humidity. My friend is from CA but her husband (now dead) was transferred there in the mid-90s.

The difference between the left in California and the right in Florida is that the former is reining in their nuts while there's no sign of that happening yet in Florida.

The extreme left in California can't even hold on to school board seats, let alone the DA's office.

And as for cost of living, Miami has got ridiculously expensive since 2020.

Rates are everywhere, but their market went particularly crazy, plus they have issues with insurance and condo maintenance charges.

Same costs with worse weather, worse politics, and way, way way worse people. Doesn't sound like a win to me.

by Anonymousreply 33June 14, 2024 5:51 PM

I hadn't heard about her in years. What exactly has she been doing since Biggest Loser went off the air? She probably means everything she says but for like so many others, it's publicity for her.

by Anonymousreply 34June 14, 2024 5:51 PM

R31 Oh, it's a beautiful state. Amazingly so. But it has been ruined by people. I just left after 10 years. Last place was Laguna Beach. Made a fortune on the house I sold. Taxes were killing us. I don't need to go into the traffic. The cost of living. The crime. I would NEVER live in Florida. But California has a problem they need to solve now.

The median home prices in California have shown a steady increase over the years, with the median price reaching $834,740 in 2023 and estimated to rise further to $859,800 in 2024 according to data from the California Association of Realtors.

And average salary is a bit over 80K.

It is a state for the wealthy or those that never want home ownership. Nope. Horrible place to live.

by Anonymousreply 37June 14, 2024 5:57 PM

R33, I also think that the centrist movement in California is much bigger than people know. I think things like the smash and grab, homeless situations and the campus protests have really made some inroads in even some highly liberal areas in Los Angeles. Now, they're not going to go for Trump the way many, many, many in California do but the concept of Democratic Socialists and Progressive politics is being questioned. We will see if the next elections bear that out. The mayor in LA, Karen Bass won by appealing to that very core.

by Anonymousreply 38June 14, 2024 5:57 PM
My friend is from CA but her husband (now dead) was transferred there in the mid-90s.

That’s why she wants you to move there. She’s lonely, My aunt did same thing to my mother. Aunt Mary moved to a creepy town in central FL because her husband demanded they move because NY was too liberal. So Mary moved to a town where her former neighbor moved. Former neighbor’s daughter was LPN and had moved to FL because she couldn’t get job in NY. Some godforsaken FL hospital hired her. So my aunt buys house on same block as former neighbir and they hang out together every day.

One day, former neighbor woke up to her husband lying cold & stiff in bed. Neighbor picks up phone, calls son and says “I’m never spending another night in this house,” Neighbor's daughter had in meantime moved to different town. So neighbor never returns to her house and moves to different town. Now my aunt starts telling my mother there are empty lots on her block going for very little money. “Come down! Buy a house! You’re lonely (my father had died) and it will be great for you to have me for company.”

Three months later aunt gets phone call. Former neighbor is dead. She had cancer but never told my aunt or anyone outside her family that she was ill. Now aunt turns up the heat on mom. “We can go shopping together! We can go for walks every day. You’ll lose weight. You can come to my house for dinner…I make low fat food.”

Mother sells house in NY, moves down to FL hellhole. My aunt’s husband didn’t like my mother. He’s a genuine Nazi. He forbids my mother in their house except after dinner. She can come over for coffee, watch Jeopardy and Wheel, then she has to go home.

My aunt can’t go shopping with mom because aunt has to be home to fix breakfast, lunch, and dinner for her husband whenever he commands. She can’t leave a sandwich in fridge for him because he wants hot meals only. And he refuses to use a microwave to heat food up because it’s evil newfangled thing that’s going to poison him with radiation. “My bride will make my meals.”

Meanwhile, two of my aunt’s sons move to FL and hang out at aunt’s house every day (they take no shit from aunt’s husband) while mom sits alone.

Mom called every week crying about how lonely she was. She couldn’t afford to move back to NY.

Your friend wants you down there because she wants your company. But what happens when you haven’t heard from your friend, you go to her place and find she’s a stiffie? Who will be your friend? The only place you can meet others is at a church.

by Anonymousreply 45June 14, 2024 6:29 PM

What's funny is people get pissy when people talk about leaving a big state like California, in between complaining about how fucking crowded it is. So much seems to be about too many fucking people, and getting a bunch of people to leave seems like it could only help. But of course everyone has to get defensive and idiotic about it. They should stop that.

Start holding parades for everybody willing to leave the state and give a little more room to everyone else. Send this bitch a fruit basket and a sayonara card.

by Anonymousreply 46June 14, 2024 6:32 PM

R40 my situation is a bit different. She is lonely but I an also very much alone with no family or kids or friends. She has been my best friend for 40 years now. I am 74 and not in great health. I kept telling her that and that I could become a burden to her. She is 70. She has kids and grandkids that live close by and I have known her kids since they were born. Her son doesn't want her living alone and I probably shouldn't be living alone. I have almost fallen a few times. I would be living in the house with her and she said I would have my own bathroom and bedroom. But I am still leary about doing it. I read Ocean Springs is a quiet beach town retirement community that isn't as steeped in religion. A lot of people retire there from other places. Right now I am living in a tiny shithole of an apt. It is a single that is probably no more than 150 sqft and it is $850 a month. It takes up too much of my SS. Free-rent sounds heavenly. Her house is paid off.

by Anonymousreply 47June 14, 2024 6:38 PM
This is what I don't understand. I get it, some of the (for lack of a better word) "woke" stuff can be annoying and head scratching, but is it anymore annoying and head scratching than the stuff that's happening over on the other side?

Exactly. California is banning plastic bags from supermarkets, but Texas is forbidding women from traveling to get an abortion in another state. I can work with one, but not the other.

by Anonymousreply 49June 14, 2024 7:03 PM

Honestly, given what you say about your situation r47, it sounds like you should seriously consider it.

For me, I'd be primarily interested in the whole booze situation. Ain't moving to no fucking dry county, and sure as hell ain't putting up with a bunch of god botherers stone cold sober.

But YMMV, as they say. And overall, it sounds like you pretty much hate where you are, so may as well try there.

by Anonymousreply 50June 14, 2024 7:06 PM

The only problem I can see with the situation, R47, is if your friend dies, her kids will sell the house. If you die first it’s a very good deal. If you don’t….its Medicaid time (nursing home). Do they have Medicaid in MS? Some off5hise red states limit Medicaid.

by Anonymousreply 51June 14, 2024 7:09 PM

Good riddance. Jillian Michaels has an self-aggrandizing, overblown, self-righteous, sanctimonious sense of self-importance.

by Anonymousreply 52June 14, 2024 7:12 PM
you've never been to Central California. You know, the home of Marco Rubio.

LoL, r44

by Anonymousreply 53June 14, 2024 7:17 PM

I have already thought about the fact she could die before me. Her family is long lived but you never know. Rents are much cheaper in MS so I would have to move into an APT but I probably could afford it more there. I am on Medical and they do have Medicaid there I already checked. If I stay in CA I would probably have to go into a nursing home anyway at some point. Newsom has cut off medical for tons of people and in my case, the insurance he replaced it with is so bad they cut off my breathing meds and gave some that are inferior. They took my nebulizer meds away and I have severe asthma, And there is no generic. I live in northern CA and the fires most years are making my asthma much worse Still, Mississippi? I don't know.

by Anonymousreply 54June 14, 2024 7:21 PM

We do get along very well. We both need a lot of space and we make each other laugh all the time. She is a great wit. I miss her terribly. I am not going until Nov. During a routine checkup they found a mass in my uterus so I can't go until I get a biopsy that is scheduled for later this month. And I'm not going in the summer. I think I want to wait until after hurricane season.

by Anonymousreply 58June 14, 2024 7:37 PM

I clicked on the NYPost and my mussy fell out onto the floor.

by Anonymousreply 59June 14, 2024 7:48 PM

When you go in November, can you spend a month or so and really get a feel for it?

Bay St. Louis (near Ocean Springs) has an artsy but very small downtown with lots of gays and lesbians. If you have health problems, though, you should thoroughly investigate the medical sitch down there compared to where you are now. Medicare/Medicaid is fine but you should know the hospital system in coastal Miss.

by Anonymousreply 60June 14, 2024 7:57 PM

I know, I am checking out the medical situation before I go that is the thing I'm most worried about. I don't take many meds. Just blood pressure COPD and asthma meds. I think I have Congestive heart failure. I haven't been diagnosed. I don't want to live to be too old because I never want to go into a nursing home. I will refuse any cancer treatment or surgery. My other biggest worry is I have to have some kind of understanding with her son If she were to die first. Her mother just left her a shit-ton of money she told me she doesn't know what to do with it all. She will have to tell her son to get me a small granny house to fit in his very large backyard.

by Anonymousreply 61June 14, 2024 8:18 PM

This article is outdated. I listen to Jill's podcast (she's helped me to lose over 100 lbs).

She no longer lives in Florida. Now she's in Jacksonville with a place in Florida and a rental in LA.

Her daughter is black (she adopted her from Haiti). Her son is half latino because the sperm donor was latino and Heidi, her ex is white.

She HATES Gavin Newsome because he's too woke for her, which I totally understand.

She is smart about nutrition/weight loss but not too bright when it comes to personal decisions. I knew the minute she talked about adopting her daughter and wanting kids that her relationship was doomed. She was not happy after having the kids, although she loves them. It completely changed her life which anyone with half a brain could tell you would happen. She and Heidi broke up within a year or two of the kids coming along. Now she shares custody so her time is split between CA and Jacksonville. Her kids are much older now but they go to public school in LA and she recently talked about how her 14 year old daughter came home talking about how much America sucks because she had learned about the Japanese internment camps during WWII. She got pissed because she said, "You are not going to teach my daughter to hate America" which is what is happening now in schools with the woke teachers and she's correct. She told her daughter that no country is perfect but America is not inherently bad.

She is against the transing of kids with hormones because she knows the damage they can do. I respect her for speaking out on this issue because absolutely no one talks about how damaging it is to kids. She's also against Ozempic for weight loss because it can also do damage to your body and no one fucking talks about that. One doctor she called out about this had to retract his statement that they were safe after 60% of his patients on Ozempic ended up with pancreatitis.

She's right about a lot of things.

by Anonymousreply 62June 14, 2024 8:28 PM

by Anonymousreply 63June 14, 2024 8:29 PM
The five cities with the highest year-over-year increases in motor vehicle theft between 2022 and 2023 were Rochester, New York; Baltimore; Buffalo, New York; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Cincinnati. The cities with the highest carjacking rates per 100,000 residents in 2023 were the District of Columbia; Baltimore; Memphis, Tennessee; Chicago; and Denver.

I'm no fan of San Francisco having lived there for 10 years and experiencing its problems first hand. There is no need to project anything else on what was once a beautiful city on the bay and is now buried under excrement, drugs and street crime, the latter of which is due to the police refusing to do their jobs because a liberal DA told them to follow the law (and got booted from office for saying it and then following through by not bringing prosecutions he couldn't win thanks to the police making egregious errors, but that's a rant for another thread).
Whether you like or not she’s calling out facts. California keeps passing legislation without any real care for the ramifications.

What facts? What legislation? California passing a ban on single-use plastic bags does not begin to compare with the laws they're passing in Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and every red state regarding abortion, the content of books, access to healthcare and just basic Constitutional rights like the freedom to travel.

Nevertheless, here's an example of a well-meaning solution to a genuine problem gone awry: Riverside County Sherriff and former Proud Boy Chad Bianco, he who recently endorsed the felon for POTUS, screeches endlessly about the passage of Prop 47 which decreed that retail theft below $950 (or some weird threshold in that range) would not be prosecuted and rather devote the resources into treatment and rehabilitation (mostly because the vast majority of thefts below this threshold were attributable to drugs, addiction and homelessness). There was care for the ramifications within the referendum, but the plan to build shelters, treatment centers and hiring and training social workers for proper intervention takes time. Meanwhile, Sherriff Bianco gets on his high horse and immediately made it department policy to not [italic]arrest[/italic] anyone caught committing these petty crimes, saying there are no ramifications for the acts so there's no point.

So now we have the perfect conservative-caused crisis (petty criminals running rampant through stores stealing everything they can get their hands on! No accountability!) while there's still no alternative treatment in place or coming online very slowly. The error was that the referendum didn't have a timeline spelled out for the less-than-genius crowd to follow, telling Sherriff Bianco, for instance, to continue arresting people and following standard protocol until the treatment and rehabilitation mechanisms were in place. Nope, he got pissed off that anyone had the temerity to tell him, a public servant, how to do his public service job (for which he is extremely well compensated), and made the situation exponentially worse. So whose fault is it that retail theft in Riverside County has exploded: the liberal majority who passed a referendum to deal with the problem long term or the sherriffs who refuse to abide by the law in the short term?

And this is what this rancid cunt points to as rationale for leaving California. Too bad we can't convince Sherriff Bianco to marry her and ride off into the sunset someplace else (but no woman with an ounce of self respect would even date Chad, let alone tie herself to him for life).

Of course I do, R82, but that's not what rancid cunt is saying, either. She knows that, as R73 said, we de-criminalized loitering for prostitution, but prostitution itself is still illegal and prostitutes still have to file taxes and abide by every other law out there. Rancid cunt just wants to point to a good thing liberals did towards solving a problem, and lay the entire problem and everything even tangentially related to it at liberals feet so she can then bleat "the world around me is shifting!"

by Anonymousreply 114June 15, 2024 4:51 AM

R113, that struck me too. She uses Jewish and Latin in the same way she uses Black and Arab. Most people realize that the first two are cultural identities and the second two are races.

R110, I would be careful accusing us of misogyny when the person you’re defending refers to herself somewhat anachronistically as a gay woman instead of a lesbian. She is not gay, she is a homosexual and the term for a female homosexual is lesbian. I do t know why she shies away from the title lesbian but I would wager she certainly wouldn’t identity with someone who calls themselves a dyke.

My grandmother used to always say when hearing someone say they were sure they would be happier if they could live elsewhere, “ Wherever you go, there you are.” Which is to say, if you’re a miserable cunt in Peoria you’ll be a miserable cunt in Paris.

The reason she believes she can be happier in a more conservative place is because with her money she probably thinks she can. While I know California is not the liberal paradise it’s made out to be and neighbors can be unfriendly there, at least she knows where she stands. What those of us who live in red state know is that while money may buy you a big house in the best neighborhood where most will be ostensibly cordial, it is a superficial acceptance and it’s unlikely she will never truly fit in. As much as she can try to play the part, they will never see her, her wife, and her multiracial/multiethnic family as a part of their community and all of the seemingly insignificant slights, whispers, and quiet hostility will grind them down.

by Anonymousreply 115June 15, 2024 4:59 AM

by Anonymousreply 118June 15, 2024 5:18 AM

R116, I’m sorry but I can’t reasonably be expected to digest all of this woman’s content before I critique what she said in the particular interview which is the subject of this thread.

So far as moving to a liberal city, the laws which govern what happens even in blue Miami are made in Tallahassee, which is a very different kettle of fish. I can only say that it likely has more to do with the fact that Miami is the economic center of Florida, it’s a looks driven city and she’s in the business of making people look better by losing weight. Moving to a blue city in a red state only seems to support my argument. She wants to have her cake and eat it too, live in a more liberal area of a low tax, conservative state. It’s the same old story. These people want to live in a more conservative place, but not too conservative, and with all the creature comforts that come from a cosmopolitan lifestyle. Let me know when she moves to Panama City Beach and then I’ll be convinced she’s a true believer.

by Anonymousreply 127June 15, 2024 3:51 PM

Lower middle class white mean hate Bill Clinton and lower middle class white women hate Hillary Clinton for the same reason.

They are both from humble beginnings (Bill more than Hillary) but became successful through education.

Fat frauen who just want to latch onto some blue collar guy and squeeze out kids are very uncomfortable with that idea.

Same thing with the blue collar guys. They think they are entitled to the world just because they are men. Learn a new skill or trade? But my family’s been working in the coal mines for generations! Why should I have to do anything different? Now, where’s my 4-bedroom house?

Well, I guess that was way off topic. But this anti-woke attitude has been floating around for a while and started with hatred of the Clintons.

by Anonymousreply 128June 15, 2024 4:06 PM

Ok - looked into this a bit more - First, it looks like they moved to Florida at least 2 years ago if not more. She's lying. She's been living in Florida for years - she paints it out like she just moved there.

Another weird thing in these articles - she keeps referencing how her wife was a Division 1 athlete. No searches mention any Deshanna or Marie Minuto competing in any sport.

Then it says her wife went to NYU - but that's not a Division 1 school.

This woman is CRAZY. And her wife is supposedly some fashion designer - but only started her brand AFTER hooking up with Jillian Michaels in 2018. There's really not much in her LinkedIn at all. No education, no work experience.

And they supposedly met on a celebrity-matching website. How in the hell did DeShanna Minuto make the cut? This is just all levels of lies, publicity and bullshit.
[R91] - I don't know what point you're trying to make

One of you (maybe you, I don't feel like checking) insinuated that the point of decriminalization is not to regulate. I countered that nonsense by presenting the regulation of alcohol as an example of something that is both decriminalized and regulated. "You" then responded that loitering is decriminalized. I then linked the videos showing hoes walking the streets in broad daylight.

Are you caught up on "the point," yet? Because it sounds like you (or another person) keep shifting the goalpost. Now, the narrative is that "it doesn't affect her." A lot of people can be bothered about things happening in a state they reside even if it doesn't affect them directly. One of those videos also showed prostitutes soliciting across the street from a headstart school with primary-aged children. That should bother any sane person. But, I keep forgetting where I'm posting, I guess.

by Anonymousreply 130June 15, 2024 5:02 PM

I read somewhere that the rich and poor neighborhoods in South Florida are really close to each other because of the high density. If that's true, she might see more human misery on a daily basis than she did in LA.

by Anonymousreply 135June 15, 2024 6:38 PM

R130 - she cites 2 examples only of legislation she doesn't believe in as the source or reason for moving to Florida.

So yes - we focused on the part where prostitutes are no longer arrested for loitering. It would seem that laws that IMPACT you would be the reason to leave - you know, like the law in which her own kids won't be able to say at Florida school that she has two mommies? It's an absurd argument to make - that somehow loitering prostitutes in areas of town that she never goes to is a major reason to move.

Then she mentions that hormone blockers are the other reason. Sorry - but that's not a real argument for her either.

The point is a) she's already lived in Florida for several years and b) the reasons she states for leaving are completely bogus. But you keep pointing to one or 2 videos showing hookers loitering - as if that's proof that it is somehow widespread all over California. I live in CA - it is not.

You're hellbent on defending a defenseless and false arguments she's making because of your political leanings.

by Anonymousreply 136June 15, 2024 7:09 PM

r136 FFS
she proves immediately by saying "but we’re not regulating any of it." Well. duh. That's the point of decriminalization.

Idiotic take I responded to with this:
Huh? No. Alcohol is decriminalized but it's still regulated. Surely you know the difference between being completely illegal and being legal but regulated.

The rebuttal that I found senseless:
Of course I do, [R82], but that's not what rancid cunt is saying, either. She knows that, as [R73] said, we de-criminalized loitering for prostitution, but prostitution itself is still illegal and prostitutes still have to file taxes and abide by every other law out there.

I show videos of prostitutes both loitering and actively soliciting in broad daylight. Also, bringing up the de-criminalization of prostitution loitering as some kind of "win" is asinine and just goes to show how rotted the brain of the average progressive actually is. You're basically admitting that prostitutes walking around half-naked is legal California and insinuating that it's not a problem and people who don't want to live in a state that allows that are "far-right". That's reductive and gross.

by Anonymousreply 137June 15, 2024 7:24 PM

R137 - you're not making any sense. Just quit while you're behind - no one is agreeing with you. She made ridiculous statements to talk about moving when she had already moved to Florida a few years prior. She is not impacted by the loitering issue. And unless her kids are out there trying to transition, that issue isn't impacting her either.

BUT - have her kids mention that her mom is a lesbian at school - and they'll get into trouble. Have ANY of her kids become gay or lesbian like her, then they have to LIE their entire lives until they graduate from high school.

You're wasting your breath trying to defend this bitch. But that's what conservatives like you do - they breathlessly support any dingbat who's a conservative - you're #1 favorite being Trump.

by Anonymousreply 138June 15, 2024 7:32 PM
we focused on the part where prostitutes are no longer arrested for loitering

What a goofy argument for her to make. I have lived in LA for 30 years, I remember seeing female and male prostitutes around Hollywood all the time. I have not seen an actual street walker in more than a decade. Everyone is on line these days. If she's going to skid row or maybe she could find one or two, but there are not street walkers in the neighborhoods she lives in, that's for sure.

by Anonymousreply 146June 16, 2024 6:17 AM

The law says that the school or anyone who works there cant say gay in a formal setting like during a class in session. It has to be off the record so to speak. It's more about the teachers. For example the kids can say whatever they want, but if the instructor were to acknowledge that Jillian's kids have two mommies in any way while the class was in session, the school can be sued by the other parents. Basically for "exposing" their spawn to concepts such as homosexuality.

by Anonymousreply 148June 16, 2024 7:29 AM

The "Woke Victimology Poker" line strikes me as defensive. She knows DeSantis is part of a political movement that is homophobic, misogynistic, racist, antisemitic and Islamophobic. She gives a detailed rundown of her family's entire pedigree/background and then bitterly spits out "Woke Victimology Poker" because she knows she's not acting in her family's best interest and she resents the hell out of it when people point that out to her. She probably wishes she could go full MAGA but they hate everything about her. I think the nastiness appeals to her.

Does she have a point, r150? She repeats the tired conservative talking point that California legalized "everything". She bizarrely focuses on how streetwalkers aren't being arrested and it's a terrible policy because they're not paying taxes or being regularly checked for STDs, letting the perfect be the enemy of the good and conveniently ignoring the fact that the Florida state government does nothing to help prostitutes. She ends with a fun bit of willful ignorance about sixth graders getting top surgery, a thing that NEVER happens no matter how much right-wing influencers talk about it.

I don't care if someone wants to move to Florida but she sounds totally crazy and not very smart.

Your only post in the thread, r152? Uh huh.

By the way, why should I care what Jillian Michaels (of all people) thinks, says or does? She's neither a talent nor a brain trust.

I bet Jillian would get along well with Cro-Marge. Crossfit buddies that flock together--mean, angry cunts full of rage and resentment.

Maybe Jillian should run for mayor of Miami as a GQP. I could see that being her next grift.
Moved from LA to Miami is like moving from the frying pan to the fire

Extreme heat is the nation’s deadliest climate hazard, killing more people than wildfires or hurricanes. Its effects have been felt in California. For example, in 2022 a record-breaking, 10-day heat wave killed 395 Californians, according to a state analysis.

by Anonymousreply 168June 16, 2024 5:18 PM
California has decided to embrace insanity the likes of sane liberals reject. That doesn't mean she's completely wrong.

Oh for fucks sake, I have lived in CA for 60 years, none of those things she is worried about affect people in a noticeable way other than making the hill they want to die on. Guarantee most people I know of all ages don't even know what she is talking about. Trans and prostitution is like 0.0001 percent of the population. This is just a social media vehicle to dump on CA so that she can get more clients where she already lives, Florida.

by Anonymousreply 172June 16, 2024 5:49 PM
the teacher was lamenting how horrible America was.

Was she, or is that the kid's take and it's easier to villainize the teacher than to accept that kids are going to have their own point of view?

by Anonymousreply 174June 16, 2024 5:51 PM

Of course R137 is going to take what I said and quote it out of context to attempt (and fail) at making a point. I said:
she says she's on board with everything the liberals have fought for and obtained (like legalization of sex work, decriminalization of marijuana) but, apparently, only for her as she proves immediately by saying "but we’re not regulating any of it." Well. duh. That's the point of decriminalization. She wants her personal freedom to do whatever she wants, but everyone else has to be subject to regulation. Got it.

I was using her complaint about decriminalization to illustrate that Jillian thinks only and exclusively about herself, and certainly not about the actual victims, you know, human beings who have been caught up in our criminal justice system for ridiculously petty crimes like loitering and possession of pot, and then thrown into prison with murderers, rapist, and career criminals. Jillian seems to be saying that she likes living in a liberal community, but only so long as we continue down the path towards mass incarceration of people just getting through life. Unless, of course, R137 can explain to us what the difference is between being arrested for loitering and being arrested for prostitution, or the difference between being arrested for mere possession of pot vs. being arrested for using in a public space or my favorite when they catch someone with more than an ounce of pot on their person and arrest them for possession and [italic]intent to distribute[/italic]. Yes, idiot, I know there is a difference, but when it comes to taking away someone's freedom, there is little distinction, at least in outcomes. And that is what Jillian was lamenting because she sure as hell wasn't worried about the actual [italic]person.[/italic] No, her lament was that there's no point in decriminalizing [italic]anything[/italic] because the people it impacts commit other crimes:
you’re gonna decriminalize sex work but only so women can loiter on the streets, not to keep them safe, not to have them pay taxes, not to make them, you know, regularly check for STDs, not to take away the pimps out of the equation.

In other words, [italic]let them eat cake.[/italic]

Bottom line, we all "know the difference between being completely illegal and being legal but regulated": the state raking in $billions heavily taxing the sin.

r190 California is expensive, the cities are heavily polluted, crowded, and the people are annoying. I used to want to live in LA decades ago. The current state of California is not my cup of tea. If you're happy there, fine. Be happy. People who aren't will leave and their reasons for doing so will obviously be negative because they hated it there. Defending your state to people who have already made up their minds that it's a dumpster fire is useless. Just do you.

I always find it odd how CA haters fixate on 0.001% of the population leaving California is like some deviating news. The fact is, being the most populated state in the Union is NOT a goal. It's the cause of high housing prices and cost of living. With 40 million people, I would love it if even more people would move out of state. It's like saying Texans should be nervous because a record number of gun owners are moving into their state.

In contrast, recent immigrants to California are among the most educated residents of the state. A majority (52%) of working-age immigrants (ages 25–64) arriving over the past ten years have a bachelor’s or graduate degrees.
