Why didn't his career skyrocket after Silence Of The Lambs? He was amazing as Buffalo Bill, and he didn’t even get an Oscar nom. That movie should have been a star making vehicle, but instead, his career seemingly went down the shitter. WEHT Ted anyway? Does anybody know what he's up to now?

He was the best in the movie. This scene both creeps you out and makes you laugh.

He’s worked pretty steadily since then, albeit rarely if ever in a starring role. Probably most recognizable in Monk.

R4, you got it right for any other arena EXCEPT Datalounge.

I for one had a Ted Levine lunchbox and a Ted Levine poster on my wall after "Silence of the Lambs" came out! Ted Levine-mania certainly swept MY school district!

I suspect many intelligent and talented actors prefer a lower-key career. Less money but also less stress and invasion of privacy. Any actor who works regularly in whatever venue should be very proud.
Anyhow, Levine made applying the lotion a great movie line, and for that he merits no small measure of awe. It was all in the delivery. And such great delivery it was!

He's a working actor.

He was in both seasons of The Alienist and in the thriller Switchback with Dennis Quaid. Whatever he's in, he pops. You can't look away.

The actor is a certifiable freak, in a good way. I'll try to find a few of his earlier interviews.
I think he's perfectly happy with a working wage.

He was great in the US version of The Bridge. I liked him as the tough but big hearted surrogate dad type character to the main lead female character.

In the 2000s, he had a major role on MONK ,which ran for 8 seasons and was nominated for multiple Emmys.
I remember Tony Shalhoub won a few times for Best Actor in a Comedy Series.

He was on CSI Miami I think

[quote]He was amazing as Buffalo Bill, and he didn’t even get an Oscar nom.
The Academy purposely avoided him because of the backlash the film received regarding his character.
Though SILENCE OF THE LAMBS was among the Top 10 grossers of 1991 and a front runner for the Best Picture Oscar, it was very controversial in the gay community.
Many gays felt that it was just Hollywood demonizing and feminizing homosexual men once again.
They thought it would lead to a rise in gay hate-crimes, so many picketed the film and 1992 Oscars.
By then, the 'evil gay' depictions in the blockbusters JFK and BASIC INSTINCT had also provoked their ire.

He's shown up all over the place over the years though nothing as big or high profile; as he's gotten older & heavier, he's aged into gruff but fatherly mentor/parental types. Still, every time I see him on the screen, it's a shock to an old Buffalo Bill.

Buffalo Bill was really a “once in a lifetime” type of role. I’m just glad he’s had continued success.

He was So good as that character that I didn't even occur to me that he was an actor that I might see again. To Me he was a freaky serial killer.

I've heard that he had a hard time getting roles for a year after Silence came out.

He was in the recent "Monk" movie, "Mr. Monk's Last Case," reprising his role as Leland Stottlemeyer

Hung like a tripod? That makes Buffalo Bill’s tuck job that much more impressive. Bravo, Ted. 👏 👏 👏

He's a great interview and a very cool guy in person. He had a very troubled childhood apparently, but working in Theater helped him turn his life around.
