What was your favorite Project Runway moment?

Mine was the "Rainway."

Kini's dress was so gorgeous.

I thought it was bullshit that they awarded Sean the win, with Kini as a co-winner.

That black umbrella gown was like 1000x more difficult to create, than Sean's basic white dress with color packets sewn into it.

Sean Kelly was so over-rated.

Go away.

Another good one was Tyler Neasonly throwing shade at Karli Kloss, asking her if she wouldn't wear it to "dinner with the Kushners."

HA!

Her mouth was on the floor.

Not watching one single minute of it. That moment.

by Anonymousreply 3June 1, 2024 10:45 PM

Jay McCarroll's finale runway show. Yeah, I'm old.

by Anonymousreply 4June 1, 2024 11:13 PM

Those early seasons of PR were so good. I liked the Christian Siriano season. I think the woman who only made caftans was on that season.

Even though Michael Kors now designs horrible handbags, he was hilarious.

He described one outfit as "hooker with a heart of gold." He had so many little throwaway lines like that.

by Anonymousreply 5June 1, 2024 11:43 PM

Strange how time changes your opinions. S1 had Wendy Pepper as the villain. It seems ridiculous because Kara Saun so clearly became the villain at the end.

by Anonymousreply 6June 1, 2024 11:53 PM

I wonder who really put the mustache (defaced) the photo of Wendy Pepper's daughter. That really was kind of mean. BTW, Pepper died in 2017 at age 53.

Another fun moment: Jay McCarroll totally getting into his role as mail man (episode's challenge was to design a new USPS uniform).

by Anonymousreply 7June 1, 2024 11:57 PM

R7, I think the consensus was Kevin because he had a grudge against Wendy. I think the show had a definite video of the event but chose not to show it. It worked because we're still taking about it. BTW, I thought that season's Banana Republic challenge produced perhaps the best crop of designs in any one challenge in the show's history.

by Anonymousreply 8June 2, 2024 12:09 AM

Where's Andre?

by Anonymousreply 9June 2, 2024 12:10 AM

The show was never the same after Michael Kors left.

When I stopped wasting time watching it

by Anonymousreply 11June 2, 2024 12:54 AM

So was Project Runway cancelled? Many people seem to think that last year's All-Star season was the last.

by Anonymousreply 12June 2, 2024 12:59 AM

If it isn’t cancelled it should be. It’s run it’s course

by Anonymousreply 13June 2, 2024 1:02 AM

No word on auditions for a new season, it’s done.

by Anonymousreply 14June 2, 2024 1:32 AM

The season Gretchen won when she sent down grandma panties down the runway, one after the other when Mondo was clearly the better designer. Also the shitty treatment of Michael Costello by the mean girls of that season.

by Anonymousreply 15June 2, 2024 1:37 AM

" Where the hell is my chiffon?!!"

by Anonymousreply 16June 2, 2024 1:37 AM

Also I forget everyone's names in this moment but there was small gay black man who had a huge chip on his shoulder. The four remaining male designers had to move into a room together and the little guy was ironing and the other two show up and the little guy is in the way and won't move so the one designer just pushes his iron over and his shit out the way and goes in and the little guy has a meltdown.

by Anonymousreply 17June 2, 2024 1:44 AM

Austin Scarlett filling in for Jay's model in the USPS runway show. I'll never forget him sashaying down the runway like a pro. Austin always reminded me of Yvette Mimieux. The designers had very distinct personalities back then. As the seasons progressed they just seemed whiney.

by Anonymousreply 18June 2, 2024 1:54 AM

Ken. He came back for an all stars season and he’d calmed down quite a bit.

Michael Costello, lol. He’s been in a few Twitter tiffs.

by Anonymousreply 19June 2, 2024 2:14 AM

I can't believe that no one here has mentioned JACK MACKENROTH.

He had to leave the show, if I remember correctly.

Another person had to leave the show because they were using "patterns." Whatever the hell that means.

r19 Yeah but he has done pretty well post PR. He designed for Beyonce and other big names. r20 Jack had to leave the show because he was HIV positive and had a "growth" in his nose that scared him.

There were also those awful bipolar twins Shawn and Claire who were accused of copying designs and having a tape measure in the apartment (gasp!).

by Anonymousreply 23June 2, 2024 2:32 AM

The motherfucking walk off.

by Anonymousreply 24June 2, 2024 2:48 AM

The thing is, if Shawn or Claire had *worn* the pants to the workroom and measured them there, it would’ve been fine. I think.

by Anonymousreply 25June 2, 2024 2:51 AM

Sean won not just because he was indeed a good designer, but he was also good looking (relatively) and Tim adored him (Tim has said that Sean is the only designer he has kept close with).

Is Project Runway still on the air? I thought it had been gone for years.

by Anonymousreply 26June 2, 2024 3:53 AM

Keith Michael was kicked off the show for having design books in his room, which seemed like a very minor infraction since his roommate said that there was no way he was going through the books when they came home. Even Tim Gunn said how uncomfortable he felt with the ejection, especially since Keith had already won a challenge and was a judges' favorite.

by Anonymousreply 27June 2, 2024 6:02 AM

That's the one, R27.

He's cute. I wonder what he's up to now?

I loved the RuPaul episode where the hot designer has a million excuses and Ru goes "did a dingo eat your baby too? you got a lot of excuses there" and his face just cracked.

by Anonymousreply 29June 2, 2024 3:53 PM

Lol R29, here's the clip.

In that same critique, Michael Kors said "It's kind of like a sad chicken. A molting, sad chicken."

Hahahaha.

I remember that designer. He was from Utah, and he had a bit of an attitude.

I love how messy and bitter Tim Gunn got in later seasons. He seemed to be exasperated with the designers all the time. The strange face injuries after mysteriously falling in his apartment. The inappropriate relationship dynamics between him and Sean and that Indian designer. Tim raged against the Indian designer after he appeared to reject Tim's interest in him. He turned into such a messy queen.

by Anonymousreply 31June 2, 2024 4:05 PM

It was hilarious when he yelled at Swampnil.

Tim was over it.

I especially love it when Tim railed against Wretchen and Poison Ivy.

Those two were toxic hags.

by Anonymousreply 33June 2, 2024 4:11 PM

Wretchen was one of the worst contestants to ever appear on Project Runway.

She must be an absolute fucking nightmare to work with in person.

When Christian Siriano discovered and unleashed Ferocia Coutura.

by Anonymousreply 35June 2, 2024 4:35 PM

Oh, and him throwing a 16 yr old girl under the bus for being too up in his business 'helping ' the design process.

by Anonymousreply 36June 2, 2024 4:36 PM

R34, I can't really say that about Gretchen. I think she was just really socially awkward and came off badly. Even Costello and Mondo not only forgave her, they became friends. Poison Ivy on the other hand was horrendous.

by Anonymousreply 37June 2, 2024 5:03 PM

I missed the later seasons when Tim was less than kind to the contestants. I'm guessing he was tired of the show and maybe was drinking more than he should have been.

by Anonymousreply 38June 2, 2024 5:29 PM

R38 I think that by that point, the show had become toxic.

There was a lot of animosity and interference by the producers, and it was taking a toll on him.

It's hard for someone with his level of dedication and professionalism - especially as an educator at a renowned school like Parson's - to sacrifice his integrity just for ratings.

That's why he and Heidi were happy to leave the show, when the time came.

by Anonymousreply 39June 2, 2024 5:33 PM

Tim was burning out on those contestants who were brought on because of the drama. No surprise he said he felt reborn with Project Runway Juniors, with a group of kids who grew up watching the show and loved being on it and were genuinely talented.

by Anonymousreply 40June 2, 2024 5:33 PM

R39 I was at Parsons just before the show came out through it's first season or two, I also worked there a number of years after, so my timeline is a little foggy, although I wasn't in fashion, I had atleast 6 roommates who were, several I'd lived with, and I was fascinated by the show. The department I was in was much smaller, but there were some amazing professional designers I had the privilege of knowing as instructors/colleagues.

Tim was the most aloof, non-presence as a Department Chair, he NEVER interacted with the students, didn't attend their exhibitions, or the 'fashion department club' that had an annual runway contest with FIT.

I did a BAFA, so I had a few department chairs, then the ones I'd worked with (technically my realm was an interdepartmental autonomous resource facility so they weren't exactly my boss, but I'd been fortunate to know and work with many others who were actually involved in their students talents and work. Gunn was beyond checked out, and that was (according to an ex) a few years before the show started.

by Anonymousreply 41June 3, 2024 1:53 AM

What's a BAFA?

by Anonymousreply 42June 3, 2024 1:54 AM

BAchelors of Art in Fine arts?

by Anonymousreply 43June 3, 2024 1:59 AM

What did your fashion roommates think of the show? Did they try to get on it?

by Anonymousreply 44June 3, 2024 12:37 PM

Those poor models were molested by Harvey Weinstein
