It's one of those "this sounds so crazy, what if we just did it and see what happens?" types of ideas people had back in the day when the world seemed more enchanted. And so they did it and nothing in fact happened. Actually, like r15 noted, things only went from bad to worse.

It was kind of a letdown. In rural flyoverstan, there weren't enough people for the line to be continuous, so they just had people hold a long streamer where there was a gap.

They flew Robert Goulet and some random homeless to the Arizona desert so they could bury a time capsule?
