This is hilarious.
The family was obviously huge, but it’s def a faux pas to insult your in laws to their faces. Also red flags in his relationship with the daughter. But I assume it’s faked or at least exaggerated.

His response about what Koreans think of Americans is blunt, but it was rude of him to call his girlfriend a piggy….But I don’t see why anyone finds Asian men attractive at all, he’s punching above his weight with a cute blonde woman.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | May 24, 2024 10:16 PM |
That was actually pretty surprising to watch, and yes he was wrong. They were nice to him. Grabbing his wife's (?) belly at the end was nasty. Fat shaming, esp your hosts, shows a lack of emotional intelligence and good manners.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 24, 2024 10:18 PM |
Considering this was all filmed, complete with camera edits, I doubt this was 100% authentic.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 24, 2024 10:23 PM |
Koreans are just rude under the guise of "I'm just telling the truth".
A female American youtuber living in Korea said that the clothing stores there only carry size small and medium. When American women who aren't a size small or medium enter a clothing store the associates start yelling at them to get out. The elderly in Korea are allowed to shove anyone younger out of the way and go first in any line. Whether it's a line to get an ice cream or in line at bank. She said that active and healthy elderly are very rude about this custom and take advantage and you just have to acquiesce.
In the late 80s/early 90s I had a Korean neighbor in Irvine, California. At a neighborhood barbecue she repeatedly and loudly announced "this isn't delicious" with each food item she tried. She informed several women there they were "fat" (they weren't), told the person hosting the party his decor was cheap and told me and host that she had a Korean doctor friend in Garden Grove, California who could "fix" us.... Needless to say she wasn't invited to any further neighborhood functions.

I worked at a Holiday inn Express owned by a mean old Korean man. I was only 18 and it was the second job so I could earn some money for school and I didn't meet him right away but the girl that trained me and told me all sorts of stories about how he would poke her in the belly all the time and tell her that she was too fat for anybody to ever want to love a Mary.
She also told me that she introduced her fiance to him one night and he proceeded to ask the fiance why he'd want to marry such a fat girl.
In my mind I was sure he must have said something insensitive but no way could he have been that blunt but when I finally did meet him and he was in his office I heard him telling the other Korean dude we worked with almost verbatim how he would poke her in the belly and tell her she was too fat for anyone to love. Another day he did assure me that I wasn't as fat as her.

In 2022, the overall obesity rate in South Korea stood at 37.2 percent. This was the second highest rate recorded since 2008. Obesity was defined as having a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or over.

They're probably all starving R32. To be a great big fat person in North Korea is socially unacceptable.

Being fat in America used to be socially inacceptable. And relatively rare. Now it’s an epidemic and thpugh it is shortening people’s lives it’s considered terrible to imply someone should lose weight.
Even though in before and after ads and commercials, the people always look a lot better after. Maybe Ozempic and similar drugs will change that. People on it have said they realized for the first time while taking it how disgustingly lazy and slovenly fat people seem to the non-fat.
Fat is an aesthetic offense, period.

[quote] Being fat in America used to be socially inacceptable.
It also used to be VERY acceptable. Even laudable. It meant you were rich enough to eat well. Just as being alabaster white was a prized physical trait because it said you didn't have to work outside and live comfortably. Styles and mores change all the time. You think Trump is fat? Go take a look at Taft, or Cleveland.
Taft is pictured below with a relatively svelte Teddy Roosevelt. Taft was 335 lbs.

For all of the thin people here, what were your family members like?
Of 5 siblings in my family 2 are obese. Our parents battled a bit with their weight when they quit smoking but eventually settled into a relative plumpness. All us kids have been overweight at times, my younger sister and I being the most similar in that if we can reach a certain minimum weight we don't worry much. I'm about 6'1" 180lbs, she's 5'6" 130. our older sister has been the "fat girl" since puberty. 5'3" and 240 was her peak. I think she's about my weight now. Our older brother is one extreme, in his 70s, amazingly fit marathon runner. Just under 6" he ranges from 150-165lbs.
Our little brother has my frame almost exactly, even down to shoe size. when we were younger we easily regarded most of our clothes as communal.
Now it's sad. He admits to weighing just over 300 but its closer to 325.

Both sides of the family were thin, although paternal and maternal grandfathers were, "stout". But then, I'm Asian.
