Birthday girl Joan Collins turns 91 today. Jayne Mansfield, born the same year, died in a car accident at age 34 in 1967. Back in 1957, they were Fox starlets, teamed here for a surprisingly good version of John Steinbeck's "The Wayward Bus." A good ensemble cast as a group of disparate strangers whose lives intersect during a California storm/flood on the rickety wayward bus. Jayne Mansfield is the real surprise here, dropping her sex bomb act, and performing naturally and effectively. Joan, on the other hand, is pretty amateurish, as the drunken shrew diner owner! Would anybody care about Joan Collins if it weren't for "Dallas"?

I care and it's not for 'Dallas' since she was never on that show.

R1 MUST be trolling. At least I hope so.

was she ever a blond? With her face, she would have been a much bigger star as a blond.

And the Warren Beatty baby she aborted would now be 63.

R8, Linda Darnell tested for the role, but they went with Joan Collins.

Fun, good quality trailer for "The Wayward Bus." Rick Jason was hawt! Jayne's very good, and Joan hadn't learned to act yet. Dan Dailey makes my skin crawl here. In the Steinbeck book, Jason's character Johnny is Juan, half-Mexican, half-Irish.

In her non-sexpot state, Jayne was a better actress than her daughter. She doesn’t look constipated all the time.
Joan has always had a lovely voice.

R7, maybe that’s why she’s married to guy young enough to be her son?

Jayne Mansfield should’ve survived so she could have had a five-episode arc on Knots Landing as the cul-de-sac’s resident boozehound cougar.

Thanks OP. Just watched it on YT. I like slice of life and strangers come together movies.

I don't know why she chose to narrow her lane when she didn't have to.

I like the MM reference when JMs character says she was born in Salinas. Then again that could just be coincidence with Steinbeck Central Valley and all.

You mean "Falcon Crest."

Correction, R18 . . . “Knots Landing”.
