Alfonso Ribeiro- “Carlton Banks DESTROYED my career!”

But Wil Smith had a post-Fresh Prince career.

R1 he didn’t play Carlton Banks… and he was the star.

[quote]Sadly, many tv actors have been typecast over the years.
Sadly, many actors are one hit wonders who lucked into the role of a lifetime, but are too limited in their acting skills to get another role.

Alfonso was a child star.

He showed so much promise on Silver Spoons.

net worth of 4 million. Quit complaining.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 21, 2024 6:11 PM |
Tell Mommie Dearest all about it 🙄
by Anonymous | reply 8 | May 21, 2024 6:20 PM |
A lot of actors played into their typecasts. Did he reject Carlton-like movie “Stop or My Mom Will Shoot” pitches because he didn’t want to be typecast or did he try and aim for roles producers didn’t find him suitable for?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | May 21, 2024 6:46 PM |
R1 Will wasn’t a character that would get anyone typecast. He was cool, popular and funny with a lot of charisma. Carlton was a big “Oreo” dork. A completely goofy character. The same thing happened to Jaleel White with Urkel and Dustin Diamond with Screech. Those types of characters almost always get you typecast in a very negative way.
Then there are tv characters that become so iconic (even without being goofy etc) that the actors get typecast. The Brady kids are the perfect example of that.

What makes this former child star think he’s an actor? Ya wanted a career after POBA? Then you should have gotten your ass yo NYC, and the best acting class that would have you. Maybe spend a coupke years at ACDA or some place like that. Go to London, study there. In other words LEARN YOUR FIVV HERE KING CRAFT!” Then spend 20 years building a career. You NEVER wanted to be Anna for, you wanted to be a star. Two different things, and no one owes you stardom.

One doesn’t need to leave LA to find a good acting coach.
He’s always been a fine actor though.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 21, 2024 6:54 PM |
Dude has never had a regular job, can go to any stupid tv sitcom fest and sign autographs for money, receives residuals and has a net worth of 4 million dollars.
He’s a whiny bitch.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | May 21, 2024 6:58 PM |
Alfonso was discovered at an open call for amateur child dancers by Danny Daniels for The Tap Dance Kid. That changed his life.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | May 21, 2024 6:58 PM |
He's had a pretty good run considering what he's working with. He's not just done sitcoms, he's a TV host and should consider himself fortunate not to have gone the way of other child stars who are now dead.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 21, 2024 7:04 PM |
At least you're not living in a Pennsylvania trailer park, Alfonso.

Destroyed his career or made him a household name?
Plenty of people in Hollywood to love to have a 'career' like that destroyed. Most don't have much beyond background and small credits.
I'm always amazed how some of these people think they should be these HUGE stars.
And - trust me - I bet he turned down a LOT of offers because the pay was simply 'too low' for someone of his status. That's the other thing - they don't want to take work that's 'below them' - but that work could get them a lot of other opportunities.
Instead, he's pigeon-holed because he didn't expand his career. Tough shit.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | May 21, 2024 7:11 PM |
He’s short. Not Emmanuel Lewis/Gary Coleman dwarfish but still not built for leading man roles.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 21, 2024 7:23 PM |
He's short and goofy looking. He should count himself lucky.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 21, 2024 7:27 PM |
Wasn't he on some short-lived hour long pseudo sci fi show playing the ex of a fat white chick who adopted a robot girl?
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 21, 2024 7:30 PM |
Or perhaps it's because he's a tiresome, limited actor.
You accepted those paychecks, didn't you, bitch?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 21, 2024 7:38 PM |
4 million is nothing in SoCal where shitty condos go for 2 million. He best keep hosting game shows and regional beauty pageants. Anyone know of any ribbon cutting ceremonies for a Kroger? Be a doll and give them Al's name
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 21, 2024 7:46 PM |
I can understand his frustration but sadly most child stars, even the most talented ones, do not go on to A-list careers. People like Ron Howard, Jodie Foster and Leo DiCaprio are most definitely the exception, not the rule.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 21, 2024 8:02 PM |
He was cute though. Maybe he just had bad management.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 21, 2024 8:12 PM |
He has a nice home--not my taste but fine for his wife and kids. He posted that he's traveled 28 states in his RV. He has a good life and needs not to give ungrateful interviews.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | May 21, 2024 8:23 PM |
At least he got the Carleton Banks role - which is more than 95% of actors achieve. I have no idea how much money he would have made from Fresh Prince and all the syndication. I can see it - Carleton was so corny and people have trouble seeing beyond that. That said, I'm surprised no one ever gave him a chance to play against that type. He seems like he'd be perfectly fine in some typical procedural role where he could appear more serious. He really didn't do much of note at all after Fresh Prince except the show where the reprised the Carleton role.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | May 21, 2024 8:54 PM |
There's a long list of 80s and 90s sitcom kids that would kill for his career. And it's not like he was the first sitcom actor to get typecast. If he'd used his summers during Fresh Prince to do theater, or some dramatic indie movie roles, Carlton would have been much less of an issue.
I just looked at his iMDB and other than a few guest spots on sitcoms he's done no acting at all since the 1990s. Anyone with any type of name recognition could have booked a Hallmark romance, or a SciFi Channel movie, or a direct-to-video stinker. So maybe the issue is that he's just not very good.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 21, 2024 9:49 PM |
R27 - not very good OR he thought he was too big for the roles. I sense the latter.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 22, 2024 12:41 AM |
I would have blown the cock right off him back then. Swallowed it so deep, he’d exit my ass the other way.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | May 22, 2024 12:48 AM |
I would have loved to have seen him get fucked.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | May 22, 2024 12:50 AM |
I had a crush on him then. Still think he is attractive.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | May 22, 2024 12:57 AM |
He looks great for his age, he could easily pass for mid to late 20's.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | May 22, 2024 2:30 AM |
Sheesh. Elijah Wood never needs to work again. (Yes, I realize he made a lot more money.) He finds projects to interest him. Sally Fields was a joke. She is no longer. It's possible to have a post-hit career or change your trajectory.

He should try porn.
