Its Leasehold though which is unfortunate
Tasteful Friends - a compact little London flat with two bedrooms, manageable and space efficient

Oh, my, oh my!!! I couldn't decide what to rip out first. The narrowness makes me shakey and the moldings just finish the job.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with a leasehold, numbnut.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | May 16, 2024 7:33 AM |
However, v8fairy, it doesn't mean I don't enjoy your contributions tremendously. I love all the pictures despite my consternation "OMG, how could I clean that?" and little freak outs about clutter. It's a place I'd be a repeated B&B customer because, well, the only place I'd find something so niche or whatever.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | May 16, 2024 7:39 AM |
So. I'm a little tipsy and conflated your Victorian posting with this, hence "It would be so difficult to clean!"

Leasehold vs. freehold is a weird concept for Americans, except perhaps for residents of Palm Springs, where alternating parcels of land are either owned by tribes and leased to owners/renters, called "lease land" or property that people can own forever "fee simple". Otherwise most property in the US at least is simply bought and sold without the need to renew a lease down the road.

But the home is in the UK…where it is utterly commonplace.
And it is utterly common in Hawaii. And in commercial real estate all over, including NYC.

All that gold shit ruins it. Why do people decorate that way? Any DL psychologists care to weigh in?

Have I stepped inside a gypsy caravan?
Is there any other explanation for this?
[quote]Lease expires: Jan 3003
With 979 years remaining, nothing to worry about with a lease.

R2 Leasehold properties are an absolute nightmare here as the leases tend to be pretty short like 5-20 years and when they are renewed the ground rents tend to be drastically increased, making them basically worthless. I believe its a bit different elsewhere
R1 et al the decor is pretty "special". Thanks R3/R4, its quite something but in a totally different way to those lovely Victorian places.
R7 I believe all that gold shit is what I'd call "dictator chic" except it has been done on a tight budget. And like any attempt to convey great wealth and power, it REALLY doent work when done on a tight budget and without any taste or design ability. The only place where this mess comes anywhere near close to working is in the hallway, and thats only if you dont look at the ceiling, and it would also help to be tipsy like R2/R3 at the very least. Or preferably on drugs. ALL of the drugs
R8 Wow that is a hell of a long lease! Unheard of here, 30 years would be considered freakishly long here

Ghastly. Absolutely horrid. It looks like it could be Liberace's home in a trailer park.

The golden fan over the bedroom door is a nice touch. I assume there is no AC?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 16, 2024 11:37 AM |
The ELEGANZA of it all! I must admit I find it cheerful!

R9: The 999-year lease is still a big thing in the UK, though ground rent is not the given that it once was. New leases are often 99 to 125 years. Leases with less than 80 years remaining generally affect the value, increasing each year closer to year 0; very long term leases are usually easily negotiable, or they were less than a decade ago.

No shit

Acton, rough as fuck in some areas. The poor man's Chiswick.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | May 16, 2024 8:58 PM |
The view out the bedroom window, at the flats opposite, tell you all you need to know about the area.

With some gold throw rugs here and there, it would be just fine.

Owned by....a Russian mobster? An Irish traveller? An Arab? An eldergay?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | May 16, 2024 9:09 PM |
‘Probate sale’
Did the owner die of poor taste?
Otherwise it’s not that bad a price for central London.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | May 16, 2024 9:13 PM |
It's not central London, R19.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | May 16, 2024 9:14 PM |
It’s in the cusp of Zone 2 which is what I’d call central London.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | May 16, 2024 9:18 PM |
It's my pied-à-terre.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | May 17, 2024 2:09 AM |
I love how it says, “ Lease expires: Jan 3003. It seems so soon…
by Anonymous | reply 23 | May 17, 2024 2:14 AM |
Is the furniture included in the price?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | May 17, 2024 3:32 AM |
Looks like a Persian dentist threw up.

R18 Looks Middle Eastern to me. Maybe a former Arab mobster now turned eldergay?

R9, Mr v8fairy you always make me laugh. I reckon it's a beaut flat for you and Nicholas to meet at weekends. Pity you're a fabulous Kiwi and don't live nearer!!!
by Anonymous | reply 27 | May 17, 2024 8:35 AM |
It’s actually a really good price for London.
It would be great to be young and buy that flat and keep it exactly as it is. Imagine the look on peoples faces when you invited them over for dinner or drinks, or even delivery people etc.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | May 17, 2024 12:35 PM |
Previous owner is probably Middle Eastern. There are furniture stores all along Edgware Road selling this over the top style.
