‘Making of a Male Model’ (1983)- ABC Sunday Night TV Movie starring Joan Collins, Jon-Erik Hexum & Jeff Conaway

I watched this television movie the night it premiered, in October of 1983. I was always someone who indulged in pop culture and male beauty. This was the perfect film for me and I liked it very much.

Besides Jon-Erik Hexum, it also stars male models Brendan O'Neill, Patrick Warburton, George Oliver, Ted McGinley, and Scott Campbell.

Prime wanking material !

by Anonymousreply 1May 12, 2024 2:11 AM

Puddy was in it?

by Anonymousreply 2May 12, 2024 2:20 AM

It had a cheesy and tacky poster/cover that was perfect for that time period of the 80s.

I love in the photo at r3 the men are undressed but Joan is covered up with clothing and a wig to the point of stifling.

by Anonymousreply 4May 12, 2024 2:26 AM

Well she is their agent. They are models. The agent isn’t unclothed.

by Anonymousreply 5May 12, 2024 2:28 AM

Was Joan already in Dynasty when she did this?

by Anonymousreply 6May 12, 2024 2:34 AM

I was disappointed that Michael Ives and Jeff Aquilon weren’t in the movie.

by Anonymousreply 7May 12, 2024 2:35 AM

Why would you be disappointed that two people not meant To be in the movie weren’t in the movie? They cast a few male models to play male models in the movie. They can’t cast every single male model. It wasn’t a documentary and they weren’t Playing themselves

by Anonymousreply 8May 12, 2024 2:37 AM

I love the part where they all get molested by Bruce Weber

by Anonymousreply 9May 12, 2024 2:38 AM

Joan looks like she's going to film Little House on the Prairie during her lunch break.

by Anonymousreply 10May 12, 2024 2:39 AM

The guys in this movie looked more like Chippendales dancers than actual male fashion models.

Not that I was complaining.

by Anonymousreply 11May 12, 2024 2:40 AM

Were they all homosexual?

by Anonymousreply 12May 12, 2024 2:45 AM

The thing tied around her neck is like a priest's bands.

by Anonymousreply 13May 12, 2024 2:46 AM

What a ridiculously bad film

by Anonymousreply 14June 8, 2025 10:43 PM

R12, nobody was gay in 80s fare like this. Nobody.

by Anonymousreply 15June 8, 2025 11:16 PM

Arte Johnson, Roxie Roker, Jeff Conaway, Joan Collins, and Patrick Warburton!

TV icons of the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s!

PLUS Ted McGinley, who spanned all those eras except the 60s!

by Anonymousreply 16June 8, 2025 11:37 PM

I bet Joan fucked all the men as well.

She was a huge sex symbol at this point, appearing in Playboy around this time.

by Anonymousreply 17June 8, 2025 11:39 PM

Collins meeting Hexum nearly led to his being cast on Dynasty as Dex, I think.

What a butterfly effect. Had he joined, he never would have done Cover Up. 😑

He’d be alive today playing hot daddies

by Anonymousreply 18June 8, 2025 11:54 PM

Warburton was so hot in the sone!

by Anonymousreply 19June 8, 2025 11:55 PM

Arte Johnson was already a has-been by then.

by Anonymousreply 20June 9, 2025 12:01 AM

Maybe Hexum took the potion from Death Becomes her, actually listened to the "now a warning" speech and still looks like that.

by Anonymousreply 21June 9, 2025 10:55 AM

This TV movie has everything!

by Anonymousreply 22June 9, 2025 11:06 AM

This is all I needed to see to say, "I'm in!"

I love the stock 1980s opening credits music that sounds more like intro music for a detective series than for a TV movie about a male model.

by Anonymousreply 24June 9, 2025 11:45 AM

So sexy

by Anonymousreply 25June 9, 2025 11:49 AM

Hexum was the blonde version of JFK Jr…in other words, both men were almost unsurpassably beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 26June 9, 2025 11:52 AM

He's hardly blond in this.

by Anonymousreply 27June 9, 2025 12:00 PM

He's taller than I thought.

by Anonymousreply 28June 9, 2025 12:02 PM

Why did they ask Joan to do an American accent?

by Anonymousreply 29June 9, 2025 1:20 PM

probably to differentiate her from Alexis.

Joan might have enjoyed the challenge.

Hexum was beautiful. It HURT when he died. I loved that show Voyagers! where he traveled around time with the kid.

by Anonymousreply 30June 9, 2025 11:11 PM

Hexum's head never did anything for me.

by Anonymousreply 31June 9, 2025 11:17 PM

such a waste, and a stupid senseless death. a beautiful man gone and yet the ugly useless live on.

Ted McGinley didn't do shirtless as often as one might think

by Anonymousreply 35June 10, 2025 3:02 AM

probably to differentiate her from Alexis.

Also her makeup and hair is less here.

by Anonymousreply 36June 10, 2025 4:23 AM

[quote]Hexum's head never did anything for me.

He used his teeth too much and didn't swallow?

by Anonymousreply 37June 10, 2025 4:29 AM

[quote] In a surviving lettter Hexum wrote to a friend describing MMM as sleazy trash,Joan Collins as not very nice and he did it for the money.

And here I had thought he did it just for the love of art!

by Anonymousreply 38June 10, 2025 5:02 AM

That monologue Jeff Conaway has about the perils of modeling is just deadly.

by Anonymousreply 39June 10, 2025 5:10 AM

R34 where is this letter?

by Anonymousreply 40June 10, 2025 5:14 AM

28 year old face with a 35 year old body.

by Anonymousreply 41June 10, 2025 5:22 AM

Hexum would have ended up on Dynasty (or The Colbys) had he lived. That ridiculous Cover Up tv show was cursed. The guy who replaced him died of AIDS.

R42 years later. AIDS isn’t an accident.

by Anonymousreply 44June 10, 2025 6:05 AM

I think he said that Joan said to him, 'Darling, I can't do ALL the acting in this'.

It was trash but it was also trash-tastic, and yes, actors do trash and art for money.

by Anonymousreply 45June 10, 2025 6:41 AM

He calls the two make-up guys fairies which I guess is better than fags.

by Anonymousreply 46June 10, 2025 6:58 AM

R38 no. He did Merv on the Green Room floor for the love of art.

Jeff Conaway is the true tragedy here.

Hexum was a good looking retard.

by Anonymousreply 51June 11, 2025 3:10 AM

This party is a bunch of weirdos and queers!

by Anonymousreply 52June 11, 2025 6:19 AM
