She was adopted by her grandfather, Prince Albert I, so there would be a legitimate aire. Princess Charlotte ceded the throne to her son when her bio-Dad/adoptive brother, Louis II died. Monaco got rid of the provision to adopt like that once Prince Rainier III realized he had a potential Black aire to the Monegasque throne opting for it to pass to Caroline and her eldest son. Albert ended up marrying and having twins.
