Eliot uses non-descriptive pronouns and is the child of Sting and Trudy Styler. Eliot also sings. I thought it was an interesting way to cast Freddie, but I found his performance a bit flat, especially after Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Trans Man Eliot Summer as Freddie Miles in "Ripley"

Sorry for the paywall. Here is another link describing the actor/singer as feminine and named Vaal.

I'm loving the series, but really don't think Dickie Greenleaf would be friends with a trans character and it is too distracting.

I don’t think the character is trans. But I keep thinking of the Artful Dodger.

I love Eliot Sumner's albums - the newer one and I Blame Coco. Playwright Fate is a great song.

I found the character very disconcerting menacing from the get go. I felt very uncomfortable when in a scene and I'm not sure why. I really had no idea who the actor was or their story.
I thought the character was a male homosexual dandy, an Oscar Wilde type, either a sociopath or Borderline.

Eliot's girlfriend looks exactly like, well, Eliot.

Highsmith would approve.

According to the director, most of the actors auditioning for the part of Freddie Miles did an imitation of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Eliot played him like an upper class Brit.

I could clock that.

I agree that her obvious trans-ness is distracting in a series set in the 60s. It's stunt casting and she's actually not terribly good in the part as she isn't remotely convincing as a male. Did Sting and Trudy help finance the series?

I just went with it. Lots of stuff was off kilter in the series but it all meshed together well enough. Eliot's Freddie was unnerving. What's wrong with that? Dickie was the only one you might feel comfortable sleeping in the same house with.

How many stars now have trans children? I've lost count. Stephen Ira Beatty just announced he will undergo surgery to become male.

It must be nice to be the offspring of stars. You have a cosseted life of homes on different continents, personal jets and darkened limousines. Eliot was born in Pisa, Italy where Sting and Trudy have a magnificent 16-bedroom villa.

Females can't become male, r12.

If a female has female genitals removed and a mastectomy, is that enough to be a man. Wouldn't you also need a penis? I know they can create an ornamental ones but as far as I know they don't work. So would the trans man no longer be able to achieve any type of orgasm? Just asking? Or can they do some surgery to make sure that doesn't happen.

Hollywood has lost its mind.

R18 as far as I know, stimulation of the clitoris is what achieves orgasm, and thats what they reshape to make a penis.

They wrap the clit with arm or thigh tissue to build it up and the big plus: You can pee standing up.
