Question About Injured Back

I pulled my back yesterday trying to lift a heavy item at home. I called out sick today because there was no way I'd be able to make it, I can barely move. How long will it be like this??

by Anonymousreply 29April 30, 2024 12:41 PM

Until it stops being like this OP. Sadly.

Backs/spines, feet, and eyes are the most overused parts of a body, with among the worst good treatment outcomes.

by Anonymousreply 1April 29, 2024 9:12 PM

Just smoke copious amounts of pot, silly!

by Anonymousreply 2April 29, 2024 9:13 PM

Augh. I have a big presentation at work on Thursday I cannot miss. I've been icing it and using those salon pas pads, but honestly unless a miracle happen I don't see how I'm going to recover in two days.

by Anonymousreply 3April 29, 2024 9:17 PM

Here's an idea. Go to a doctor. Sheesh! We can't diagnose through the intertubes, dummy.

by Anonymousreply 4April 29, 2024 9:20 PM

I can barely walk! I had no idea it could be this debilitating.

by Anonymousreply 5April 29, 2024 9:22 PM

Well honey, take whatever pain killer you have then waddle into a cab and go to the hospital.

by Anonymousreply 6April 29, 2024 9:25 PM

My last "back attack" took 2.5 weeks to subside, OP. I know you don't want to hear this.

by Anonymousreply 7April 29, 2024 9:26 PM

Weed Ibuprofen Booze

Go to your Doctor who will prescribe you with a temporary muscle relaxant and perhaps a short 6 day course of Steroids. ( To reduce inflammation). Take them religiously, rest up, and don't expect to be functional for at least a week.

P.S. Any CUNT at your job who doesn't understand your temporary debilitation isn't over the age of 40 and doesn't know the hell of back pain.

by Anonymousreply 9April 29, 2024 9:29 PM

OP, you’re stove up.

by Anonymousreply 10April 29, 2024 9:34 PM

Also if you go to the doctor you will have a medical excuse for missing work.

by Anonymousreply 11April 29, 2024 9:40 PM

You say you have a weak back?

When did you first notice it?….

by Anonymousreply 12April 29, 2024 9:51 PM

There are at least two types of Salonpas pads, I have found the Salonpas LIDOCAINE work way better than those without. OP do the ones you are using have Lidocaine?

by Anonymousreply 13April 29, 2024 10:18 PM

JFK had to have sex to treat his bad back. Might work.

by Anonymousreply 14April 29, 2024 10:23 PM

Keep your legs up on pillows when you sleep tonight. Hot showers can help. Obviously if it persists, get to the doc so you can get an MRI.

by Anonymousreply 15April 29, 2024 10:26 PM

Is it spine or muscle? You should go to the doctor if you want any chance at being able to give a presentation on Thursday.

by Anonymousreply 16April 29, 2024 10:42 PM

I broke my back in my 2016 motorcycle accident, and after I left the hospital (and IV morphine) and the rehab hospital, I made do with ibuprofen. You can take 800 mg. twice a day (with food). It didn't take the pain away completely, but it took the edge off just enough for me to make it through the day. Of course, I was in a wheelchair for three months (I also had a broken arm and a broken leg), and was working P/T from home, so there's that.

Good luck, OP -- and feel better.

Back pain can last two weeks. Lidocaine patches help ease the pain. I have horrible back pain and use them, they really help.

by Anonymousreply 18April 29, 2024 11:00 PM

Do I look like the amazing Kreskin??

by Anonymousreply 19April 29, 2024 11:22 PM

Yes, R5/OP, until it happens to you, people have no idea how much your ENTIRE body relies on the back/spine doing its job quietly and thoroughly.

Hurt your neck (cervical spine), you'll get headaches, vertigo, balance issues, dexterity issues, and numbness/tingling from shoulder to fingertips.

Hurt your thoracic spine, and you get truncal instability, searing upper-mid back pain than can radiate to your GI system, causing stomach ache and pain just from breathing.

Hurt your lumbar spine, and you can have gait instability, sciatica, incontinence, pain/tingling/numbness in your lower extremities, poor muscle tone.

Hurt your sacrum, and as with lower lumbar spine you can get bowel/urinary incontinence, severe pain in hamstrings and buttocks.

People, please be kind to your spine; your older self will thank you.

Get some arnica and have someone massage your back with it. It works for me.

by Anonymousreply 21April 29, 2024 11:36 PM

Acupuncture!

by Anonymousreply 22April 29, 2024 11:37 PM

Have you tried it r22?

by Anonymousreply 23April 29, 2024 11:38 PM

[Quote] How long will it be like this??

Three to five business days.

by Anonymousreply 24April 29, 2024 11:52 PM

Wal mart has air activated heat wraps, buy them and medical tape to tape them down, they may get too hot at first but keep them on they last for at least twelve hours and Longer. They have saved me. I keep them stocked up at home.

by Anonymousreply 25April 30, 2024 1:06 AM

Thanks for the tips everyone. I have a telehealth appointment tomorrow.

by Anonymousreply 26April 30, 2024 1:11 AM

Yes, I have. Very successful outcomes. My ex did the same with acupuncture treatment after spending the day lifting boxes of books when he was cleaning out his classroom. I took him to Urgent Care the next morning, since he could barely move, even after a long shower and alternating Tylenol/ ibuprofen.

He was x-rayed, and sent home with narcotics, muscle relaxants and instructions to alternate hot/ cold packs. Our neighbors suggested acupuncture and he was ready to try anything at that point. Within two days, he was on hands & knees finishing his kitchen floor project before his parents came to visit.

I see an acupuncturist pretty regularly for a wide range of issues, but it's really great for pain.

by Anonymousreply 27April 30, 2024 11:56 AM

Ibuprofen will help. If you’re able to walk, moving around will help more than staying in one position too long. A chiropractor can also be helpful.

OP - How old are you?
