Never even knew this existed, let alone with Julie Harris in the cast. I'd give a watch, even if it's trash. The full movie is on YouTube in a bad VHS transfer—apparently it's never gotten an HD release of any sort.

Marilyn Hassett was a great natural beauty and expressive actress. Why didn't she have a longer career?

I just read the book. I didn't get what caused her breakdown.

0% on Rotten Tomatoes you say? That's required viewing for the DL Cinema Club.

I think Esther felt alienated from her society and family. Just before she returns to her childhood home from New York, her date attempts to rape her. Her inability to connect and find meaningful activities after college and the internship unsettle her further. She struggles and loses hope.

Can it be worse than I'm Dancing As Fast As I Can?

By the end of the book Esther rejects everything she ever aspired to or put on a pedestal. She doesn't know who she is anymore.

The movie is glossy but shallow. And no one has seriously ever attempted the story again (except that forgettable Gwynneth Paltrow movie).

Watched this decades ago. I remember a description of male genitals - comparison to a turkey neck. I believe she was describing Jameson Parker.

by Anonymousreply 11April 29, 2024 11:48 AM

Does it include the recipe for avocado with crab salad?

by Anonymousreply 12April 29, 2024 11:51 AM

Parker has a full frontal nude scene in it.

It is at about 9 minutes into the film r13. You don't see much since it is dark.
