"One time, I got into a bit of a sticky situation where it kind of ended my career," he said. "I was drunk in the back of a police car and I said some stupid s---, and all of a sudden: blacklisted. I'm the poster boy for canceled.""
At this point his career isn’t that much different to what it would have looked like if he had not been cancelled.
Producing a lot of his own projects, a John Wick spin-off, a bit part in a Stallone franchise with his fellow 80s he-men, Marky Mark and Jodie throwing him the occasional bone, then a bunch of direct to DVD action movies followed by direct to streaming action movies.
He may have had a handful of supporting roles in mainstream comedies and dramas with decent directors, but even now there are a lot of competition for those parts among the over-60s.

He wasn't canceled, he still has a career
And he's trying to blame booze for the MANY bigoted things he has said over the years

He built his own creepy church that still said Latin Mass. His dad moved him to Australia because of Black people in America. He abused his pregnant girlfriend. He's garbage. A once pretty head on a tiny hateful body. He's doing just fine

He has a really nasty energy about him now. That also might be why nobody wants to cast him.

I always thought the taped phone call actually did more to hurt him with the public than the incident in the police car, which ruined him in Hollywood.

The only time I have ever watched TMZ the woman R12 is referring to was standing on the sidelines of a sports pitch with a grim looking Timothy Dalton, her baby daddy, watching their son play soccer on a school team with Paris Jackson and Kylie Jenner.

Downey is so much smarter in the way he’s managing his public messaging. He presents a cheerful face, wants everyone to know he’s helplessly in love with his wife, doesn’t blame anybody else for having to do prison time, and when he’s around his fellow actors he never stops praising them. Whether or not any of it is 100% true he wants to be seen as a guy who learned his lesson, made mistakes and paid the price, and is so darn happy to have moved on, and I believe him. I was really impressed with his performance in Oppenheimer.
Gibson clearly blames anybody but himself for the fact that his actions had consequences he didn’t like. If he’d stuck to praising Downey and then had just shut up he’d be so much better positioned than he is when he whines.
