OLTL was the better soap! More memorable stories and characters. Agree or disagree?

OLTL was the red-headed step child of ABC for years. ABC never treated it with respect, it was just the filler between AMC and GH. I'm not even sure that Agnes gave a fuck about OLTL after she sold it, but AMC was always her "baby". I always thought that was wrong too. Early AMC was much better than what it would eventually become, but it was never better than early OLTL.

I was never a fan of Slezak. She went too hammy in most of her stories for my taste. I liked it when Pat Ashley was the OLTL star.

I liked OLTL more but I can concede that AMC was better. One of OLTL's weakness was seeing how nearly everystory was going to interact with slaystack. She became just a little too much. My favorite was Loving. Which got all the respect and attention a network could give a show but it never took off like the rest. Never was a big fan of GH except for the Diana Taylor murder which I've always considered the best storyline of any soap. In the early days of her playing Heather Robin Mattson was a revelation. The Diana Taylor murder involved nearly the whole cast and lasted over a year. When you found out who did it you gasped. Because they led you to believe, for months, that Heather did it.

I loved stuffy Viki but she needed a contrast like Todd, Dorian. Or Tina to shine!

I was a massive OLTL fan and despised the overrated AMC. (I did think AMC was decent in that 88-89 timeframe) My mom loved it from the late 70's until 1984. AMC was the only soap she watched.

Granted I am 44 and was very young at the time and basically watched with my grandparents.

OLTL's zeniths were probably 1978-82 then 85-90 and 93-95.

I found OLTL to be the most underrated soap of all time quite honestly.

I did watch Y&R somewhat consistently and had brief addictions to GL and GH in the late 80's.

I watched most of the soaps here and there in the 80s and early 90s, but AMC was *my* show. I watched it from 1982 until the (very) bitter end. I hate that Frons fucked it up. It deserved to be one of the last soaps standing, and could have been easily fixed. The last few months of the original and the ill-fated Hulu reboot felt like the “old” AMC.

At least there are still episodes on YouTube. I often watch classic episodes, especially the storylines with my favorite soap actress ever, Kate Collins.

I think Ryan's Hope was ABC's red headed step child. You couldn't deny it was probably the best acted and certainly the best written but it never really was a ratings smash. Even among the NY soaps, it was never really got what it deserved from the network. But all those Emmys RH won annually were more than enough for ABC.

OLTL was fire when Andrea Evans and Fiona Hutchinson drove the story. The Gordon sisters came along and they became too much of a focus. When Andrea left, it was the never the same for me.

R65, Helen Gallagher and Bernard Barrow were there the entire run.

R68 They and Michael Levin were about the only ones that were.

Two Delias...or was it three? And all the Ryan kids had three or four portrayers.

I preferred Randall Edwards as Delia.

R71, that entire Crystal Palace storyline would never have worked with Ilene, great as she was.

OLTL at its best was the greatest soap of all time. They had some fantastic writers in the 1990s throughout the end of their run. (The exception to that was there were some clunker years when Jill Farren Phelps was at the helm but she ran every soap she touched into the ground)

AMC's biggest fuck up, and I LOVED Cliff and Nina together, was ending the Cliff and Angie romance. It was such a slow burn story. They just didn't throw them together. It was two grieving friends slowly falling in love.

Remember the painting of Nina's mom over the fireplace was originally Nina. When they cast the role, the portrait also changed.

I think what hooked me on AMC was how they (for many years, anyway) were able to balance the funny, camp characters and storylines with serious, social issue stories that seemed natural and logical to the characters.

Of course, as in any long running show, they had missteps, but in the AMC Golden Age, it just couldn’t be beat. There were many great years, but 1986-87 always stands out to me as classic soap.

I watched OLTL occasionally, I liked Dorian, and uh..yeah, Dorian. Hated frumpy Viki and those dumpy Buchanan men. Tina was fun. The Fraternity Row stuff was fun for a while, and of course watched for uber twink Ryan Phillippe’s gay storyline..but AMC did that storyline better with cutie pie Kevin and Kelsey (RIP Ben Jorgensen) and won the Emmy for Best Writing for it.

Ryan's Hope at least until Delia's kidnapping by a gorilla was really good. It was a neighborhood middle class Soap but the producers had to mess with the plot to generate ratings.

Cali Timmins as Maggie was incredible on Ryan's Hope. It was her first acting gig and she stole each and every scene she was in. She was supposed to replace Andrea Evans as Tina but a certain piece of ham nixed it.

Cali Timmins should have been a big star. She was great as Paulina on AW, but was replaced by…Judi Evans??

I followed her to AW. She just didn't stay on long enough. I tuned in one day and suddenly Paulina was a fat frau. I left the show.

Cali would have made a great Tina more so than the other names mentioned. Genie Francis as a recast Sarah could have been interesting but loved Jensen in the role.

R94- Life at Cortlandt Manor was indeed an amazing storyline followed closely by the Adam/Brooke/Dixie triangle with Tad thrown in. Adam was at his most dastardly when he gaslit Dixie in the hopes of getting his son all to himself. That storyline was a total banger as well. I started watching AMC as a kid in 1986 and was obsessed with it until 1998 or so. When AMC was good it was GOOOOOD.

Mousy Silver coming to town was what got me hooked on AMC. I was around 11 and had never heard of All About Eve , haha. Hated when it turned out she was really conwoman Connie Wilkes! They should have brought that character back later to fuck with Erica and Tad.

It also sucked that the real Silver was a bore. Everything about her. They killed her off fast. I can't remember a single thing, besides her being murdered, about her.

The “real “ Silver was first played by a very prety brunette named Rosalind something. She was eventually replaced by Claire Beckman, a decent actress but bland. Neither Rosalind or Claire looked like a former archaeologist, which Silver apparently was.

Even when ABC was the #1 daytime network, their soaps always looked somewhat cheap and washed out. Also the ABC soap didn't have good background music. I guess it wasn't until the 90s that ABC caught up with CBS and NBC production values.

What are people's thoughts about Kelli Maroney as recast Tina? There are only a few seconds of her playing this part on YouTube. She was in Ryan's Hope and then transitioned into an 80s scream queen for a couple of years.

I liked her in movies but wasn't sure how she did in soaps, but I have found Kelli Maroney has uploaded hundreds of Ryan's Hope videos onto her YouTube page.

I know I'm in the minority but I liked everyone who played Tina. Cali would have been absolute dream casting but you can't have it all. I forget her name but this was actually my favorite Tina. Even above Andrea. I think Jean Randolph was my favorite OLTL character EVER. She did everything were were screaming, from the couch, for Viki to do for years. But I really liked this Tina. This season is awesome. Slaystack does it with a minimal of ham.

Kelli would have been a great Tina. The recast would have been seamless.

And yes, Cali would have been great as Tina. I wish they’d brought her on AMC as a recast or new character. R173 - Krista Tesreau did return to GL periodically. She was interviewed a while back on Soap Opera Digest’s podcast. She spoke about some personal issues that colored her tenures on SB and OLTL.

I found her to be honest and interesting.

Mike Carr built Jean Randolph's room where she held Dorian Captive.

I love Krista but she was as miscast as Tina as Susan Batten was for Connor at ATWT.

Susan Batten was and would only be Luna to me. Plus I hated Luna! Never got the Max/Luna super couple joke when he better chemistry with Gabrielle, Blair, Tina, Megan, and even Lee Ann. Max wouldn’t have fallen for that hillbilly. Stupid goddess crap wasn’t what Max was drawn to.

I wish the spooky, original Dorian had stayed. There was no humor in her psychosis.

The OG Dorian was fascinating -- so cunning, so indifferent to the pain of others, so able to present herself as blameless. R188 is right -- it was spooky. But I was more entertained by Robin's Dorian -- she brought every scene she was in to a new level. She created a Dorian that was tormented and needy, and poured all that need into desperate acts. At the same time, she made Dorian funny. She was electric. I don't think a psychotic character (as the original Dorian was) can last over time...she's just too evil.

Elaine Princi was the worst Dorian by far. Just terrible.

It felt like they hired a placeholder on purpose.

Robin Strasser was the only good Dorian Lord who matters.

I always found it interesting how Phil Carey (NO picnic behind the scenes himself) said that Elaine Princi got a raw deal and defended her when they brought Strasser back.. I respected that despite Princi being horrible in the role.

I have very rarely heard a kind word about Strasser, however Slezak and Depaiva loved her, as did the horrid actress Kristen Alderson.

Depaiva even visits her in Ohio.

So she cannot be THAT bad.

Robin was Dorian as Patti was Evita…no one crazier or, in their own way, better.

Robin and Tuc Watkins are also still friends. I’m sure Robin is a diva in real life but she seemed to get along fine with the people she worked with the most.

OLTL was lucky with the guy who played Max. He had great chemistry with any actress he was paired with.

Strasser was apparently a neglected or abused child, and by all accounts is very sensitive. But various costars have said nice, or diplomatic things about her.

I think she was daytime's answer to Shelley Long. Someone who always wanted to do their best and would fight battles over the smallest things.

I know Strasser had her signature roles on AW and OLTL, but she was also briefly on AMC between those stints. That was before my AMC time, and I have never seen that role discussed much or any clips. It’s odd to me thinking about her and Lucci being on the same show. Did they have scenes together? I remember her Dorian crossing over to AMC a few times but I think her scenes were always with David Canary.

Karen's Belle de Jour and Marty's gang rape are unrivaled as far as soap stories go. Maxie's heart transplant on GH is the only other story on daytime you just knew was different. And they tricked into the mainstream because the attention overcame daytime television.

Robin Strasser was so good as Rachel on AW and so delicious as Dorian on OLTL. However, her Christina Karras on AMC in the late 1970s was a disappointment.

Christina was rather bland with a milquetoast personality. They eventually gave Christina a back story where there was some kind of childhood abuse going on and it manifested itself in her stealing money from the cash register of the store she worked at, or something along those lines.

YAWN.

Strasser was an expert playing characters who cause trouble and stir the shit up. But AMC didn't write to her skillset.

She did not have the skills to play an victim at least in the longterm. Creating sympathy and empathy for a bland, boring every day character was not in her wheelhouse. Expectations were high for the Christina character thanks to Strasser's track records and we were all disappointed by what we got.

Once they transferred Strasser to OLTL to play Dorian in early 1979, Christina Karras was quickly forgotten and never mentioned again.

I'm sure Christina and Erica shared some scenes, but I don't particularly remember them 45+ years later.

OLTL used to air, in my city, after Dark Shadows. Our ABC affiliate kept moving it around, it sometimes was on at 10am because they started showing Phil Donahue instead. I got hooked the 2nd year it was on, there was a girl - Julie - who tried to off herself because her photographer bf wouldn't marry her and she was living in sin. Her Catholic mother was horrified and her Jewish dad (played by Alan Miller who was terrific) was more tolerant. She ended up marrying Tom Lee Jones, who was the doctor who treated her. Later they married and she was frigid - I had no idea what that meant and had to ask my older sister who wondered what the hell I was watching. It was really great those first few years.

Everything went on hold and I laid there all day, remote in hand, flicking through all the soaps. I found myself increasingly drawn to Cali Timmins on Ryan's Hope. Her (usually) quiet charisma felt like no other soap actress I'd ever seen before. She even had her own background music.

Joe Hardy has died - he was EP at various shows.

The Llanview book features some of his comments - I don't think he was universally loved by the OLTL cast.

I was only 10- and OLTL was my show- not GH, but I watched GH from 88-91. I recall loving that Anna/Duke storyline with Beecroft. I found it really great. Thats what I recall during Monty- An earthquake and the Eckardts. I was done with GH by 92 and I have never seen it since.

I started watching 1989 OLTL recently — the Eterna stuff is bonkers, but also fun.

R323- Someone has the summer of 1988 Patrick London storyline- ITS FUCKING AMAZING-- It was far better than I ever remembered. Its like a 3 month film. You need to start in February/March when "Bo" returns to the show - It was expertly done.

And Eterna was a damn good mystery prior to the underground city being revealed.

Eterna started in late Sept/early October 1988 and I was a little boy. I suspect it was very similar to how little kids felt about Dark Shadows.

I've somehow missed this thread entirely until now, but decided to chime in because I can answer the question: yes, there actually *is* a train between Pine Valley & Llanview! As it so happens, my brother recently moved with his family to a town along the Main Line. I knew Agnes Nixon had used it as an inspiration for both Pine Valley & Llanview, but I had no idea it was all THAT specific. As it turns out, there's no Pine Valley but there is a Penn Valley, and Llanview is Llanfair IRL.

I also remember all the references to Center City – and in the REALLY old days, Locust Street being where its hookers used to hang out – but I had no idea that downtown Philly is literally *called* Center City! (Same reason as most of Europe: the term "downtown" didn't even exist yet when Philly began booming.) And yes, it has a Locust Street, albeit strongly gentrified since the '80s (but inner-city Philly is rough AF). Still, the Main Line area looks a whole lot like the homes shown on AMC over the years, though IIRC they used various mansions north of NYC to stand in for Cortlandt Manor, Linden House, and the Chandler estate.

Anyway, it was a nice surprise seeing all these unexpected reminders of my youth following my brother's move. (Our babysitter was the one who got us hooked on AMC & OLTL in the '80s.) And the reason it's called the Main Line, of course, is because that's what the train connecting each city has always been called, dating back to the 19th century when Main Line mansions were the "weekend homes" for the Philadelphia elite. They actually have *three* trains connecting the area! (two SEPTA lines and an Amtrak commuter line)

Llanfair is a town much farther West in Cambria county......unless there is a second Llanfair closer to Philly?

Haha, R357. I meant “Germanic” as in, uhh, humorless and stiff. Very certain of how things need to be done. I was with a German for years and he was from Bavaria so I know what I’m talking about. I thought I read somewhere that Palmer was modelled after a member of the notorious Krupp family which produced more than the coffee maker, if you catch my drift. Of course Lars Bogard turned out to be a former Nazi but I think if Mitchell didn’t work out in the role then it’s possible we’d learn of his horrible secret.

R355 the way Erika tells it, the Prospect Park production was kind of shady.

It started off well. All kinds of promises were made to get the actors back. Then, once they started shooting the shows back to back using an alternate filming sequence (I think 2 weeks on/off for each show), the money just ran out to the point where the payroll office would close early when the checks were supposed to have been paid. A lot of actors were very unhappy about the situation and are still unpaid.

Peter Bartlett, who played Nigel in OLTL, told a friend of mine that he receved two identical checks. He phoned his agent who told him not to contact the Prospect Park payroll office. And those checks were each made out to him for over $3000.

Yes, at the end Prospect Park owed (and I think, still owes) Slee 200K.

They declared bankruptcy for that lille piece of Prospect Park but the rest still exists and the same assholes still run it.

R370, I love AMC, but let's be realistic: "The Crown" wouldn't exist without the Windsors, one of the highest-profile families in the world. A daytime soap cancelled 15 years ago doesn't generate the same kind of love, plus most people under the age of 40 have never even *seen* a daytime soap, let alone watch it regularly.

There's also the small matter of its original cast being nearly all dead or unrecognizable. Obviously La Lucci had a fuckload of work done while AMC was still on, but nowadays she's had *way* more and is barely recognizable.

I remember reading not that long ago that Cady McClain, of all people, achieved a first: she's the only person – and almost definitely the last – to win a Best Actress Daytime Emmy playing different characters on all *three* different networks. (Interesting if only because Lucci famously lost the award 17 or 18 times in a row or whatever.) Dixie & Opal were easily the two best characters on the post-cancellation online spinoff, but it was, well, weird to watch the show while missing so many actors, with Erica easily topping the list. I recall Opal & Palmer's son Petey coming down with a severe case of SORAS during the interregnum when AMC was cancelled: he went in a little kid and came out a hot, 30-playing-18 son driving around Pine Valley in a Porsche. (Meaning literally. That was the opening scene! At least they were back in the Northeast by then.)

The actor who played hot Petey is now on Days of our Lives - he played a serial killer first and is now playing a perpetually shirtless himbo.

I watched her Television Academy interview, and she is a wonderful speaker. I liked her stories but she did take her character being marginalized very personally and had not gained a healthier perspective over time.

She was undoubtedly on the receiving end of racial abuse on set, but she also seemed to fight nonstop with her co-workers, and said she thought she deserved Lucci's salary!

I really think Ellen had it in her mind that she (as Carla) was the star of OLTL, and she probably was in those first few years, but as with any soap, emphasis eventually shifted to another character. Unfortunately, she internalized it as a personal thing or a racist one.

Holly was delusional with a deeply unrealistic perception of her value to the show. Simple as that.

I watched the original OLTL. Her story was groundbreaking, but it wasn't the only story they told at the beginning. She was a major player, but not the star. Very few daytime actors last more than several years.

R418- I would add the Andrea Evans Tina era of 1985-90 as way up there as well. It is responsible for catapulting the show to the #2 and #3 spot in the ratings. Her storylines generated so much press and water cooler chit chat. She was a phenomenon.

I lump all of those Rauch era storylines together- Eterna; the Old West; Viki goes to Heaven; Tina goes over the Iguazu Falls; Fraternity Row; Ursula blows up the wedding cake; etc.

They’re less about traditional soap opera storylines and more about creating oddball scifiesque scenes that would get publicity and younger viewers.

Except for Megan turning out to be Viki’s daughter, they didn’t move storyline for the characters forward, and I don’t recall them being referenced on the show until Ron took over and he used them during the 40th anniversary.

I feel the same about Paul's time at GL. He did a lot of the same tricks there. He shamelessly copied the two princes story used at OLTL and did it again at GL. He also revisited time travel. Instead of underground cities, there was a clone.

He wouldn't be the first person to basically write a story multiple times, though. Agnes did that. Rachel on AW >> Erica on AMC >> Ava on Loving. And Doug Marland did the "Mother takes the hit for daughter in peril" story a few times.

Does anyone remember the young actor that they tried to pair Julie with? It was with the first actress Stephanie Winters and later Lauren, and the concept was that it was the bad boy with the good girl. He was a dark haired actor and I thought it was an interesting match but they never moved him above being a bit player. The producers saw the possibilities and paired Julie with Nico.

Taylor made me wish I wasn't gay. I was mesmerized by her.

I had no idea Kim was born in 1959, I thought she was the same age as Jenny - 17 when she started in 1983 - so she was actually 25! I knew Larry Lau was almost 10 years older than Greg.

I could never decide if Larry Lau was sexy or not. There were some moments in which I thought he was dreamy and others in which I thought he was kind of dull looking.

R488, it's standard for actors to play much-younger characters if they're supposed to be playing a teenager: they can't hire *actual* teens without having to set up a remote learning program of some sort, so they go for a "28 but looks 18" thing (except no one *truly* looks 18 at 28, but still). The only AMC-specific difference here was Kendall, but that was because the fans balked at a clearly teenage SMG playing a character the fans all know HAD to be 25 or so. I can't recall any other time viewers complained about something like SORAS, but it was more than a bit awkward when they had to "convert" Kendall into an adult. I still remember the cringe moment where Kendall orders an alcoholic drink, and after getting some odd looks says something like, "What? I'm old enough to drink."

But still, casting young is common. Darnell Williams was 26 when he joined AMC as a then 16-year-old Jesse. He's a bit older than Kim being born in 1955, but Michael E. Knight was also born in 1959. (Tad's supposed to be a few years older than them, but still.)

Larry Lau was sexy on AMC when he was thin. He gained weight when he was on Another World and he looked swollen. It didn’t help that they dressed Jamie like a newscaster at a tv station in a small midwestern city.

Lau just hit the wall pretty fast. He was outrageously hot one day then three days later it was over.

He also had a past with Nora which they rekindled until Lindsay got in their path. He went on to become Todd's regular lawyer constantly getting him out of his messes and romanced Blair for a brief period until he reunited with Nora for a while.

R497. He was a creation under the Jill Farren Phelps regime. I linked the character's bio. Basically he was the reason for supercouple Bo and Nora to break up. His arrival though did bring on Lindsey Rappaport...who was one of my favorite characters at that time.

Kale Brown played him the longest and was quite good. Lau was a recast who did in the character with boring femininity.

There’s a Marcy Walker Appreciation Day on an AMC fan account on Twitter. They’re posting memorable scenes through the years. I wish someone would upload 1981-82 episodes as I was too young back then. I am so sad I missed the Jenny/Greg/Liza triangle. From what I’ve read, they really made her reprehensible and Marcy played it to the hilt. For thise who watched the show back then, did I miss out on an amazing time or what?

Yes, it was an excellent storyline. Very compelling. Must see TV in its day.

Of course, they wrote Marcy as this bitch from hell for the first 12 to 18 months. Gave Liza an unattractive butch haircut and dressed her in unflattering polo shirts or sweaters. Show didn't create any avenues for viewers to like Liza in the least.

They made her a bitch you wanted to hate. And that made you root for Jenny and Greg even more.

And here all the men surrounding Jenny during her three years on the show were gay men in real life -- Larry Lau, Michael E. Knight, Darnell Williams and even Brent Barrett who played Tony Barclay.

Laurence Lau wasn't Richard Bekins who was the definitive Jamie in my book.

But I thought Larry was more interesting in the role than Stephen Yates, who was on for two years (1983-85) but never had a storyline -- he just sort of collected a paycheck for looking good.

R546, yes, you missed out. Marcy Walker was sort of fascinating to watch when she first appeared as Liza. First of all she didn’t look like anyone else on that soap up until then-she was unique looking, a pretty blonde but very distinctive. To contrast with Jenny (and to make her look asexual) they cut her hair short (which apparently made Walker very upset) and mostly put her in Izod Lacoste-type polo shirts in the warm months and cashmere sweaters in the cold ones. Her original Liza was ice cold and, frankly, a racist. It was clear what she thought of Jesse even though the show tried to make us think it was a class thing rather than a race one (they established she was friends with well-to-do Angie).

I remember when ATWT introduced a Liza rip-off character named Lorna. Barbara Garrick was a good actress but it just didn’t work at all. Lauren on Y&R was introduced a year after Walker started on AMC and also seemed to be a Liza rip-off character (both Luza and Lauren had daddies who owned the local department store) but they let Tracey Bregman play her as a minx so worked.

R560, the one who first replaced Marcy Walker was named Alice Haining and she was rumored to be the girlfriend of the exec oroducer Jacqueline Babbin. She didn’t last very long. She was quite good later on as the incest survivor Angel Lange on ATWT. The final Liza was that red headed bitch who I enjoyed on the nighttime soap Savannah but did not enjoy as Liza. She was very bad casting. I thought Mary Beth Evans would have been good, though.

Liza was one of the most complex, fully developed characters on daytime. To recast her was an insult to the viewers.

Patrick Mulcahey did an interview years ago where he was asked about joining the writing staff of Santa Barbara when it premiered. He met Marcy Walker in New York as she was leaving All My Children to join Santa Barbara.

They were standing outside talking on a sidewalk when a cab driver drove by and yelled “YOU’RE A BITCH LIZA!”

Amanda Bearse lived with Sandra Bernhard while she was on AMC. Sandra would have been a 'hoot' as Opal's sister - or imagine her as Jenny.

R578, I loved the first season of Savannah... had so much potential as a night-time soap and yes, Jamie Luner was very good it that show. I didn't see her as Liza... long after I watched AMC.

But I do remember Marcy as the original Liza and how much Jesse Hubbard hated her and her machinations at breaking up Jenny and Greg. I believe/remember, he used to say, "you is a snake Liza Colby!" I loved it. This was back when I was in college, the very early '80s.

Later, she became a drunk and Jesse got his revenge in a great scene. After yelling loud enough so everyone can hear "you got pregnant and don't even know who the daddy is", Liza said she wasn't pregnant. Jesse says with contempt "what did you do? get rid of it?" Liza says she was never pregnant and Jesse leaves after saying how lucky any kid would be not to have her as a mother.

Liza threatened to tell Greg about Ray Gardner, so Jenny took off for New York. When Jesse went to confront Liza about this, she accused him of rape, so he took off for New York.

A year later, karma bit Liza in the ass when her boyfriend (Jenny’s brother Tad Martin) fucked her mother Marian.

Liza was pure evil.

Luner was pretty good BUT she was not Liza... she could have been a cousin or unknown sister if there needed to be a connect to Liza

Walker's 2nd stint as Liza went well at first, especially coming off her disastrous stint at GL.

But Lucci became threatened and started to push against Walker and her front burner storylines. Lucci did the same thing she did to SMG....and Kate Collins....and Fake Silver.....

By the time Marcy came back to GL in 1995, she was a BIG get.

She had Best Actress Emmy, something Lucci did not have at that point.

She had international fame and popularity thanks to Santa Barbara being syndicated all around the globe.

And she could act circles around Lucci, likely the reason Liza and Erica rarely shared any scenes.

Lucci had good reason to feel threatened by Marcy Walker's return.

Since A Martinez went to GH in 2002, I’m surprised ABC didn’t try to get him on AMC (maybe as a Santos cousin) or bring Marcy to GH.

Lindsey was one of the best iconic OLTL characters especially in the last decade. A great complicated villainess (like a tragic Heroine) similar to a Gabrielle. And unpopular to most fans but Nora vs. Lindsey was the best rivalry! I was sad when they sent her off even though she was the bad ass that finally killed Spencer!

Gabrielle's hair should have won a best supporting emmy.

I remember seeing the big rival to Greg, can't remember his name though, doing the first hypothetical gay kiss in soaps in LONGTIME COMPANION.

I loved Lindsay on OLTL. To me Hickland drifted in the soaps until then. So many similar soap actors who floated from one role to another but had obvious appeal and then hit a real payoff role.

Zimmer as Reva comes to mind in that sense but obviously Zimmer is the more dynamic.

I only know Santa Barbara from YouTube clips. I used to find clips of Marcy just to watch her. The show was only so so but boy they had nice sets. Even better than Loving.

Asa Buchanan should have married Gabrielle Medina; he loves beautiful women and Gabrielle LOVED Money!!

The Cruz and Eden chemistry was out of this world. I've never seen a soap couple with more chemistry than Cruz and Eden.

Their chemistry, along with incredible writing and acting, is what put Santa Barbara on the map.
