I wonder what those ladies are up to now?
Did anyone watch that extreme makeover show The Swan?

Wow - blast from the past. I actually did watch it - they did pretty extensive work, IIRC: veneers, new wardrobe, hair, etc.

Loved that show! I remember reading a follow up article and some of the ladies said it was impossible to maintain that level of glamour (the extensions grew out, no more professional makeup/nails, etc) and keep up with the workouts/special diet and such once they went back to work and a normal life not on tv. At least one marriage was ruined as well.

That train wreck of a show crosses my mind once in a while. With how common plastic surgery has become these days, it's unlikely a show like that would be as controversial now as it was at the time it aired.

Yes, I watched it. I always wonder what those women look like now and if it changed their life. I know one woman had serious problems with the surgery.

OP, they were two shows, Extreme Makeover, Plastic Surgery ed., and the Swan.
R3 It would be polarizing, and probably ripped apart for shaming. Terry Dubrow was a surgeon on that show, and he was getting a lot of flack prior to Botched bc of his association with that.
Dr. 90210 was awful, there was one totally ripped Dr who believed grapefruit sized implants were ideal on size 0-4 frames. Any bigger patients who did consults, the CCs were increased accordingly.
The only reason Botched and it's spin-off, Botched By Nature aren't critiqued is bc it's not a show about making plastic fantastic freaks.

Yes it was fascinating. The Brits have a few makeover shows, one being "10 Years Younger in 10 Days" or something like that. They'll do light procedures (teeth, fillers, botox, skin refining) as well as makeup & hair. Both men and women.

I thought this show was the pinnacle of the worst. Almost all the contestants had some serious plastic surgery. There was that awful, chubby, Cuban-American, single mother who hosted the show. I remember an attractive contestant, a middle-aged woman, who decided against the nose job because she was happy with her nose and wanted to look like the rest of her family. It was a healthy response, and her nose was fine. The bitchy host had an "intervention" to change her mind and insisted she get a nose job. IIRC, the contestant stood her ground.

Is The Swan the one where all the women ended up looking exactly alike?

“But but this is too much work… I’d rather be a fat frau.”

They all look the same after extensive surgery. Reminds me of that old Twilight Zone episode with the 3 or 4 bodies they can pick from.

I loved the beauty pageant at the end where they all had to compete with each other.
The message: In addition to starving yourself for months on end, you may have had tons of plastic surgery, but even then you're not the prettiest.
