Winter 2023/2024 was the worst winter ever!

We got several meters of snow. I have never seen so much snow in my entire life. It was very unusual. I live in the south of Norway, where winters are getting warmer. The last few winters we've had mostly just rain and some snow, but not nearly as much as this! Also, it started snowing in late October and the last snowfall was in February. Nothing in March but then again today. It's April ffs! Not only did we get a ton of snow this winter, we had record low temps. We had a cold snap that reched I think it was -22 degrees C. That is highly unusual too. It hardly ever gets colder than -10 here, and even that is rare. We had several days of -22. I don't wish a winter like we've had on my worst enemy. It was horrible!

We didn’t get a tenth of the amount of snow this year that I remember getting 30 years ago.

The weather here wasn't bad, but I got the worst cold around the holidays. I haven't had a cold for years.

We had the mildest winter of my lifetime in northern New England (except for this week when we're having snow in April).

by Anonymousreply 5April 4, 2024 6:24 AM

Warmest winter on record in Wisconsin, although we're having a lousy April

by Anonymousreply 6April 4, 2024 8:18 AM

We had the warmest winter on record where I am in Canada. Barely anything for snow, where it’s usually at least 3-4 feet deep in places by February. This year we mostly had dry ground.

How can it be so different in North America? Warmest there vs coldest winter ever here in Scandinavia.

by Anonymousreply 8April 4, 2024 10:17 AM

Not as bad as 1485. That was the winter of our discontent.

by Anonymousreply 9April 4, 2024 12:11 PM

I don’t know, R8, but I could have honestly gotten by without winter tires this year. That’s how different it was for us this year. Strangely, the further north you went, the less snow there was. It was nice because I hate the amount of cold and snow we usually receive, but we’ll likely pay for it with a summer drought.

by Anonymousreply 10April 4, 2024 12:24 PM

R7, why do you measure snowfall in Canada using U.S. measurements?

by Anonymousreply 11April 4, 2024 12:26 PM

It’s not uncommon, R11. Those of us over a certain age understand and relate to measurements like inches and feet over metric ones. The one metric measurement I relate to is kilometres. I also understand Celsius over Fahrenheit. Ask any Canadian over age 40-45 and you’ll probably hear the same thing. It’s a mixed bag. Same with spelling. Older Canadians likely learned to use the “our”, while I think younger generations are being taught to forego that and use “or”.

Sixth least snowiest winter in Boston so far - less than 10 inches of snow. It’s snowing (and blowing) fiercely: 50-plus mph wind now along with sleet, rain, and snow though it won’t accumulate here.

The collapse of the warm water thingy that's been discussed in the ocean will leave the US much warmer but plunge Europe into much colder temps.

[quote] less than 10 inches

Always a disappointment.

humble-bragging

by Anonymousreply 16April 13, 2024 3:38 PM

Oh look. A climate change denial thread.

Fuck off and die screaming, "Norwegian".

by Anonymousreply 17April 14, 2024 1:35 AM

We've hardly had any snow here in WV, but we've had a lot of rain and tornados, too. Especially in the last few days. We had a few days of very cold weather back in January, but that's it.

by Anonymousreply 18April 14, 2024 1:56 AM

R17 WTF?! When have I said I don't believe in climate change? Of course I do.

by Anonymousreply 19April 14, 2024 11:38 AM

That's weird. We had no snow here in Croatia. Plus, the spring came quite early. Actually, it feels more like it's summer already, than spring.

by Anonymousreply 20April 14, 2024 11:55 AM

I've read from other people's accounts that Croatia is beautiful. I've also read that there have been quite a few Neanderthal cave sites and hand axes they used.

by Anonymousreply 21April 14, 2024 12:53 PM

R21 Yes. And a lot of people here acts like neanderthals too
