Downton's Lady Rosamund does an antisemitism

Following a UK tour, a new production of The Merchant Of Venice was staged in London from January with Jewish actress Tracy Ann Oberman playing Shylock with the 1930s Cable Street uprising and Mosley blackshirts as the background.

Actress Samantha Bond replied to one of Oberman's tweets from January promoting the play, asking "Dear @TracyAnnO What is your response to Israel’s actions today! A mistake? 7 people dead! Trying to feed the starving? X" This was Bond's first use of twitter in several weeks.

Responding to suggestions Bond's account had been hacked Oberman confirmed Bond sent the tweet and had been in contact with Bond and Bond's husband, Alexander Hanson.

Bond then accidentally(?) retweeted criticism of her saying "I see Samantha Bond has proved she's a repugnant racist antisemitic nasty little bigot who won't be suing anybody who calls her out".

Samantha Bond is a favourite at The Guardian, so stands to reason she's anti-Semitic.

Bond has deleted her tweet to TAO but bot the retweet calling her an antisemite. Some hangover.

An absolutely insufferable woman.

So, expressing shock over the fact that an NGO's workers have been killed for feeding the victims of a genocidal campaign is a sign of anti-Semitism and bigotry? This is ridiculous.

Nobody is above criticism, especially when they claim victimhood while using millions of dollars in heavy weaponry to massacre innocent civilians whose situation is desperate. Pretending otherwise is just shameless indecency and scandalous hypocrisy.

Samantha Bond could have tweeted her outrage/shock/sadness at the attack on the aid convey. Lots of people did. I did.

What she did do was seek out a 3 month old tweet promoting a play about anti Jewish racism and ask the Jewish actress appearing in it to comment on the attack.

THAT IS RACIST AS FUCK.

Don’t know what I’m missing here.

Yes, the October 7 attack on Israel was horrific.

But this military response by Israel has been genocidal.

I support Israel but not this government and its reckless, deadly actions.

That's irrational as shit.

It might have been a lot of things, below the belt comes to my mind (as does wrong headed, petty, manipulative and dumb), but racist?

Not everything has to be the worst every time. Maybe have a think. Maybe save your outrage for the outrageous.

by Anonymousreply 10April 3, 2024 12:48 PM

Yes R10, it’s racist to seek out British Jews to get them to explain their thoughts about Israeli army activities.

by Anonymousreply 11April 3, 2024 12:51 PM

Why the fuck should they have to 'explain their thoughts' on demand on Twitter, lunatic at R11? Of course this was racist.

by Anonymousreply 12April 3, 2024 1:54 PM

It's something, R11, none of it fair. But racism? Come on. When everything is the worst, nothing matters much. Grow up.

Samanatha Bond didn’t seem out “British Jews”. Bond specifically asked one specific person. TAO been screeching like a cunt at levels Julianna Margulies only aspires to, any time someone posted something, anything about Gaza or Israel to check if they mentioned the kidnap victims.

Which is why Bond asked her if she mentioned the aid workers.
