I've read here she was hired for The Way We Were because she slept with the producer. No idea if that's ever been confirmed.

She married after dating current DL punching bag Don Henley for several years, in the late 70s. The song "The Long Run" was supposedly about her and their relationship.

Shed did a lot of television. She was very forgettable. She even did "Murder, She Wrote", which doesn't say much for the trajectory of her career.

She appeared in Hart to Hart, as well, as the murderous handicapped sister of her vaunted supermodel doppelganger twin (except for the grooming).

Wasn’t she Robert Evans’ girlfriend around Gatsby? I thought I recalled reading here on DL that she was really pushing to be cast as Daisy, but she was rightfully given the Jordan role.
She’s not a great thespian, but she was gorgeous and somewhat charismatic.

R9 I would disagree that she couldn't "do" acting. Gatsby, moonraker, the way we were, Austin powers, say anything? That's a pretty cute resume. Measured against most actors careers I'd say she did pretty well.

Hagman loved her; said she was his favorite mistress/co-star of JR's on Dallas.

I waited on her in '84 a few times. She had an apartment in Gramercy Park near the restaurant. She was tall and gorgeous. She liked to smoke. Very quiet and unassuming.

R51, Smoking in restaurants was allowed in 1984?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | March 21, 2024 5:14 PM

Smoking bans didn't really hit their stride until the 90s and even then there was much pearl clutching about them---I remember Atlanta being particularly fainting couch worthy about it. Smoking sections were more common than smoke free environments in the 80s.

Physically she's somewhere between Charlotte Rampling and Diane Lane. Very much a face of the 70s, glowing tan skin with decadent eye makeup And dramatic blush

Of course, R52. Smoking was allowed everywhere it didn't say "no smoking," such as gas stations.

I remember all these factoids from the WHET Lois Chiles from 3 years ago, and the one 3 years before that. I wonder if such recurring WHET threads are in fact the same ancient queen who just hauls it out on schedule. Lois Chiles is every 3 years. Other WHET celebrities are every year.

Better to only read about here every 3 years than some of the other people who get exhumed (often literally, because they're dead) on an almost weekly basis.

Lois Cleveland Chiles (born April 15, 1947), 77, is an American actress and former fashion model known for her role as Holly Goodhead in the James Bond film Moonraker (1979), and as a hit-and-run driver in Creepshow 2 (1987).
She worked steadily 1972-2006 including The Way We Were, her second picture in 1973.

I love that her character's name in the James Bond film, Moonraker, was Holly Goodhead. Someone would have had to ask Bond himself, Roger Moore.

[quote] including The Way We Were, her second picture in 1973.
Her second MOVIE was TWWW, Cecil B DeMille (R62).
Casting Lois Chiles and the other models as secondary female characters hurt The Way We Were badly. They would have done much better casting people who had real faces, 1940s-like instead of 1970s, faces, and around the same age Streisand was - 30. But Ray Stark needed bangable chicks at his disposal. This was an issue throughout the 70s, such as the flat faced models all over The Last Tycoon with De Niro in 1976.

Agree, R65, Bonnie Franklin would have been miles better than Chiles in The Way We Were and could you imagine the sexual tension between her and Redford and the rage just beneath the surface in her scenes with Streisand!
