He's a national treasure. And I'm going to miss him. I consider him a father figure, honestly.
I think I'm going to cry genuine tears when William Shatner kicks the bucket

You should have seen what a wreck I was was Nimoy died.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 18, 2024 1:17 AM |
WHEN Nimoy died. You see how upset it still makes me?!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 18, 2024 1:17 AM |
I wanted to be Kirk as a child, but having Shatner as a dad ... eh, one narcissistic father was enough, thanks
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 18, 2024 1:20 AM |
It isn't so much of his narcissistic personality as it is that he has SUCH a personality. My father is like that too...a real character.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 18, 2024 1:26 AM |
Denny Crane.

He’s fine, he beams down his love
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 18, 2024 1:36 AM |
Leonard Nimoy greatly saddened me, I actually admired him. William Shatner not as much.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 18, 2024 1:51 AM |
Mr. “Get A Life”? Ugh, he is probably just like that in real life.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 18, 2024 2:15 AM |
Blame Canada.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 18, 2024 2:28 AM |
Eh? ^^r11
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 18, 2024 2:30 AM |
Me, too, OP. He’s always been there and I want him to go after me, if he has to go.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 18, 2024 2:50 AM |
I’ll be your Father Figure.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 18, 2024 2:51 AM |
r13 you said what I meant to say.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 18, 2024 2:55 AM |
I said the same about Tony Bennett and Tina Turner. And I was right.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | March 18, 2024 3:03 AM |
Remind me.
What happened to his wife again?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 18, 2024 3:03 AM |
do you really think he murdered his wife?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 18, 2024 3:14 AM |
The wife drowned in a pool.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 18, 2024 3:56 AM |
Not just any pool.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 18, 2024 4:02 AM |
National treasure for Canada?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 18, 2024 4:07 AM |
It would be grand it they gave Bill a walk on in one of the new Trek projects. Also throw in Joan Collins. Two 90 year old's showing how it's done.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 18, 2024 4:23 AM |
Every time I pass the TV in my house, he's narrating something. Guy stays busy. I'm not a huge Trekkie but he is an institution and I'll definitely be sad.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 18, 2024 4:23 AM |
I saw him do a panel at a Con a couple years ago.
He was quick and clever, told a great anecdote, and was very charming. I know the rest of the cast hates him. But, he really was very entertaining.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 18, 2024 5:03 AM |
I'll do that when John Lithgow dies. He basically raised me through 3rd Rock when my mom would put me in front of TV to not have to deal with me, and my dad was too busy playing sports to ever be at home. Not to mention I learned English with the help of that delightful show.
So I know exactly how you feel, OP.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | March 18, 2024 5:13 AM |
Don't cry for him, Argentina
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 18, 2024 5:17 AM |
BTW, years ago, someone here claimed they'd see George Takei at some gay bar in LA (this was before he was publicly out) and said that George would refer to Shatner as "that queen, Bill Shatner"
Take it for what it's worth!
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 18, 2024 5:21 AM |
Shatner seems to be doing okay for now. He's been in the media recently and celebrates his 93rd birthday this Friday.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 18, 2024 7:39 AM |
Get help, OP. STAT
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 18, 2024 7:50 AM |
doesn't everyone say william shatner is a huge asshole and terrible to work with
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 18, 2024 8:01 AM |
Yeah, he has a big ego, but at least he admits that.
I think what OP was getting at is that William Shatner/Captain Kirk has become a huge part of television culture over the past 50+ years and that it will leave a large vacuum when he goes.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 18, 2024 8:15 AM |
Is he sick OP? If not, stop blubbering.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 18, 2024 11:56 AM |
He seems like an asshole.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 18, 2024 12:10 PM |
R25 what is your first language? I recently had a conversation with my friend from Malaysia, he said his family learned a lot English from I Love Lucy amd Hollywood Squares. He literally said “Paul Lynde is loved by my family.”
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 18, 2024 12:17 PM |
Just saw him Saturday.
Always been nice to me and said hello.
He looks incredible for nearly 93. Easily 20 years younger.
He uses a mobility scooter but only behind the scenes. When he comes out to his table he always walks. Real star power.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 18, 2024 12:19 PM |
OP- What about Jean Luc Picard?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 18, 2024 12:20 PM |
I know he’s been called a ham and an over actor, but he was excellent in Judgement at Nuremberg. He held his own in his scenes with Spencer Tracey.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | March 18, 2024 12:23 PM |
Bill is one tough Jew.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 18, 2024 12:52 PM |
R37 Patrick Stewart has aged terrible. He magnificent theatrical voice now has the "old man" tremble. Sad. Shatner's voice is still strong.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 18, 2024 12:53 PM |
Loved him in Star Trek, and kind of enjoy his larger than life persona. Yeah, he has a huge ego, but it’s something he actually mocks; he’s able to take the piss about himself which makes me suspect it’s at least to an extent a persona or act.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 18, 2024 1:01 PM |
My favourite quote from him was the immortal “don’t tell me how to say the line…it sickens me.” I often use that when somebody tells me to do something.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 18, 2024 1:02 PM |
The story I heard about the wife drowning was that Bill came upon her floating in the pool and called 911. The operator told him to jump in the pool and get his wife out, but he didn't because he didn't want to get his wig wet. I'm guessing this was probably a made-up story and yet . . .I wonder.
Also, let's not forget he played the dad in the 70s made-for-TV classic Go Ask Alice. Off topic, but I do believe the 70s and 80s were the golden age of made-for-TV movies.
I also think Chris Pine was the superior Capt. Kirk, more likeable and less of a blowhard, in my opinion.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 18, 2024 1:25 PM |
His performance in Judgment is even more resonant because he's Jewish. During Better Late than Never he went back to his people's home in Ukraine, it was beautiful. Nimoy, of course, also a Russian Jew. So that Nazi episode of Star trek was also a statement.

I am going to cry when Tim-o-tay dies.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | March 18, 2024 1:47 PM |
Billy was in Richmond at Galaxy Con this weekend for the premiere of a documentary about him.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 18, 2024 2:38 PM |
I hope he goes to hell.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 18, 2024 2:45 PM |
No one mentions his work on Rescue 911.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 18, 2024 2:46 PM |
Rescue 911 is hilarious!
I watch it on Pluto TV sometime and laugh myself silly at the "dramatic" reenactments.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 18, 2024 2:48 PM |
I love The Unxplained. Shatner is super drole and does great things with his voice. A tour de force considering his age.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | March 18, 2024 2:51 PM |
R12,
He is Canadian.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | March 18, 2024 3:09 PM |
Between Shatner and Wil Wheaton, I choose Shatner.
Between Shatner and George Takei, I choose Shatner, hands down. I hope somehow Shatner outlives him.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | March 18, 2024 3:19 PM |
R52 Who the hell roots for Shatner over Wil and George? Those two are utter sweethearts, and Bill has been nothing but a bloated prick to both of them for decades. And for no good reason!
Tell us you're not a Trekkie or a queer without telling us.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | March 18, 2024 3:56 PM |
I'll add my 2 cents...
Met Wil Wheaton years ago. Kept people waiting in line while he played on his phone. Then whined that people were picking on him and he may need to walk away to "compose myself."
Only met Takei once. In the green room. Haughty, rude and very condescending to everyone but Nichelle Nichols.
Just my experiences...
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 18, 2024 5:55 PM |
R54, that sounds right. They’re awful people.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | March 18, 2024 8:02 PM |
I saw him in person almost exactly a year ago when he gave a keynote speech at SXSW. I don't know if he's taking HGH or what, but that dude was the single most spry nonagenarian I've ever seen! (and that's not an exaggeration) It was a seated chat, but he spent half the time getting up and walking around like he was doing a standup routine – and if you know Shatner, you probably know that's basically what he *was* doing!
I was seated close to the stage, and noticed ZERO signs of infirmity. Talks fine (without the hoarseness that older actors often get), walks fine, thinks fine. No tremors or anything, and sharp as a fucking tack.
I'll be devastated when he kicks the bucket, too, but after last year I'd be very surprised if it happens anytime soon. (Though I know most of his castmates have of course passed on, most recently Nichelle.)

"I think I'm going to cry genuine tears when William Shatner kicks the bucket."
You'll be the only damn one.

Shatner has more on the ball than either geezer currently running for president.

Practicing with a proxy?
by Anonymous | reply 60 | March 18, 2024 8:28 PM |
R58 Fuck you. I’ll vote for Biden, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a senile geezer. He’s just not an evil senile geezer.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | March 18, 2024 8:33 PM |
Shatner is probably more senile than Biden so....whatever
by Anonymous | reply 62 | March 18, 2024 8:41 PM |
Has Candice Bergen ever talked about her time on Boston Legal?

[quote] I don't know if he's taking HGH or what, but that dude was the single most spry nonagenarian I've ever seen! (and that's not an exaggeration)
I saw Shatner speak two years ago and agree that he’s very spry physically and mentally and definitely not senile as some well-known people younger than him appear to be.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | March 18, 2024 8:48 PM |
My sister was friends with his daughter many years ago. So the fuck what ? Just felt like posting that. I’m bored lonely and such if my fucking remote job,
by Anonymous | reply 65 | March 18, 2024 9:38 PM |
I like him in "The Twilight Zone" (I MUCH prefer "Nick Of Time", to the more famous "Terror at 20,000 Feet"), and "Star Trek", but not as a person. With as much of a legend as he genuinely is, William Shatner believes he's far greater. He isn't.

One thing that's impressive about narcissists is their amazing longevity. (There have been studies on this; they really do live longer!)
I guess they want to keep living for the one they love
by Anonymous | reply 68 | March 18, 2024 10:52 PM |
That's interesting r68, I didn't know that. And it tracks.

I was driving through Studio City on Cahuenga Blvd on my mobile not paying attention when a short orange bowling ball of a man walking a huge Doberman stepped into the cross walk. Slammed on my brakes. Orange bowling ball turned red and started cursing me a blue streak. He was still at it on the other side. My fault. Deserved to be chewed out by Captain Kirk.

R40, yeah, I noticed that Patrick Stewart's wonderful Shakespearean voice sounded much older the last few years. It's too bad.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | March 19, 2024 7:40 AM |
Will you play “Cats in the Cradle” and ugly cry, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 77 | March 22, 2024 3:21 AM |
R78 It's really hard to believe he's 93. He's still fully ambulatory, he's mentally there, his voice is strong.
Good for him!
by Anonymous | reply 79 | March 22, 2024 10:36 AM |
He'll have had a good, long life, OP.
Shatner was a good-looking, mediocre actor, who found fame from one role and lived off it the rest of his life.
Save your tears, OP, for younger actors with talent who die tragically and all too early.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | March 22, 2024 12:10 PM |
Been rewatching the original Star Trek and while he later gave into his hammy instincts, he was a very charismatic lead. His career has also been far better than most Star Trek alumni, he’s been in a range of things over the years, not least Boston Legal. And then there’s his “singing” career, but we’ll pass on that.
