Jennifer Lopez's “This Is Me… Now” album was crushed critically, debuting at a deflating No. 38 on the Billboard 200 before dropping from sight. Her accompanying first North American tour in five years is said to be selling poorly.
Next career move: a "leaked" sex tape with Ben.

Spider Woman still on?

[quote]especially in the ‘80s, when the Stones, David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen and even Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen tried (or were persuaded) to remain contemporary with now-horrifically dated production techniques.
Jem Ass-wad can just fuck right off. The Rolling Stones' 'Tattoo You' released in '81 is one of the greatest rock albums of all time, and David Bowie's 'Let's Dance' released in '83 is criminally underrated genius. Paul McCartney has never and SHOULD never stop adventuring in new sounds and styles, and thank god no one ever tried to get him to in the 80's.
Do not EVER speak these artists' names in the same breath as JLO and Justin Timberlake, asswad.

That's just the nature of pop music. It's transitory. Always has been. JLo and Timberlake were always minimally talented and made music that was pure trend-hopping fluff so no surprise they eventually aged out of popstardom.

I got to watch an early version of this movie and provided feedback and suggestions.
I'm actually curious to see what changes they made because the version I saw was laughably bad.

Justin Timberlake and JLo are celebrities who made pop music. No one considers them artists. Even Harry Styles, who like Timberlake came from a boy band, is considered an artist; Timberlake was simply making music because he could, not because he had anything to say musically.

The writer really believes that the Rolling Stones’ Emotional Rescue is Prince-like? Because Jagger sings part of it in falsetto?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 16, 2024 12:29 AM |
Poor JLo. She's found herself in the same position as Janet Jackson. Unable to sell albums and having to cancel her tour because of poor ticket sales and lack of public interest.

Poor Ben, he has no back space to tattoo this other failure, the fagott.

I mistook Emotional Rescue for a Prince song for many, many years. One of my favorites, one of his best.

Matt at R10, he does have that ironing board he calls an ass for flat, vertical space.

Jem Aswad is far too old to be writing the way he does.

Timberlake is ugly. How dare he have sung about bringing sexy back! He's never been anywhere near as hot as someone like Michael Hutchence.

Helps to have talent. Justin has some musically, less acting. JLo has a bit more in the acting catagory but pretty little musically.

Thought this was a spot on article. Hubris is the main culprit regarding J Lo, Justin, and Madge. Considering how canny each were about knowing their brand and how to promote it, all have made missteps once they grew older and further success didn't happen with ease. J. Lo made the classic showbiz mistake of investing 20 mill of her own money in that vanity movie nobody wanted, for an album nobody asked for. Justin would help his own cause if he acted his age and also stop taking hits at pathetic ex Brit. And Madge, well, she's the Norma Desmond of pop. What comes after what will surely be remembered as her farewell tour? A screen "return" or shooting somebody in her pool?

Justin has lost whatever he had. His new album is bad. Even his voice is off from what it once was. It’s bad when you’re JT and now sound like a second rate Justin Bieber.

R23 While Madonna has certainly given off Norma Desmond vibes on social media over the last few years, the Celebration tour proves that she's still in full command of her talent as a performer. It's a brilliant and, at times, surprisingly moving show that's gone a long way to restoring goodwill among those fans whom may have strayed or grown weary of her over the last decade or so.

r25 friends that have seen the show said it was good as well. But every photo or video of the show makes it look like a mess. Maybe I should snag one of her cheap tickets to check it out.

R20 if you ever saw INXS perform live you'd feel differently. Timberlake reminds me of a teen actor/singer trying to be "sexy."
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 16, 2024 2:28 PM |
Timberlake has never been sexy. Never.

Madonna has had a mega-successful 40 year career. Not many entertainers (especially musicians) can claim that. She doesn't belong in the same category with Lopez and Timberlake, who are about 15-20 years shy of that. A successful singer or band has an average longevity of 10 years, and both Lopez and Timberlake have managed to eke that out with their music careers. The only thing that has sustained them beyond that is they branched out into acting. (Or in Lopez' case, she started as an actress and had a short side career as a "singer.")
I can think of few acts who have made it successfully past 30 years, meaning that they had chart hits for a substantial portion of that time, but they can still tour huge arenas and bring in crazy numbers. The Rolling Stones are the champs. Streisand has proven she can still sell records and tour successfully and has now had a 60 year career. Madonna is probably third. Had they lived longer, Michael Jackson, Bowie and Prince would still be able to command huge numbers for touring if not record sales (or streams).

I'd forgotten 2003 mega bomb Gigli ended director Martin Brest's film career....(his choice apparently)

Scent of a Woman should have ended it.

Too bad about the show cancellations. I bet Ben was looking forward to her being away for an extended period of time.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 18, 2024 1:52 AM |
They aren’t talented musicians - never were. Timberlake got a pass in his twenties because he WAS cute. Lopez can dance her ass off, but even Paula Abdul can sing better!
