It's called American Riviera Orchard! This is going to be so bad.
Frau alert! Meghan, Duchess of Sussex has launched a lifestyle brand

What a terrible name.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 14, 2024 6:54 PM |
She has no gay friends. Or anyone who will tell her the truth.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 14, 2024 6:57 PM |
I’m sure we’ll get an overly lengthy blog post about the inspiration behind the name that is poignant and inspiring.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 14, 2024 7:00 PM |
Not surprising. This seems like something she would do. But the name is bad.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 14, 2024 7:01 PM |
At least she's not "hospitalized" for months, because her husband is cheating on her.
And at least she's not cutting and pasting fake photos of her smiling and happy face and sending them out to the media, who then "kill" the photo because it has been manipulated.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 14, 2024 7:02 PM |
They are so desperate for money. I bet she never thought she'd be in such a position after marrying that stupid prince.

American Riviera
Riviera Orchard
But not all 3
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 14, 2024 7:03 PM |
That's a bad name.

ew, that monogram is aping royal crests. So tacky.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 14, 2024 7:04 PM |
I don't naturally associate the Sussexes with the Riviera, however. Is this Freudian? Is Meghan reminding the world of her yacht girl past?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 14, 2024 7:04 PM |
Maybe zero thought went into this and she was handed a deal by some food conglomerate.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 14, 2024 7:05 PM |
Did anyone notice that the IG account name is misspelled? It's Americanriveraorchard. Maybe she means to celebrate Geraldo?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 14, 2024 7:05 PM |
Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. Man, for a woman who claims she was a victim of their mistreatment and racism she sure loves to throw that title around.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 14, 2024 7:06 PM |
Nice try to distract from KATEGATE, op.
No matter how hard you try, this story will never get traction.
And it will NEVER knock KateGate off the front pages of the tabloids.
Sorry, Klan Grannies!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 14, 2024 7:08 PM |
That is a horrible name.American Orchard or American Riviera but not all three. Riviera and Orchard don't work together at all.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 14, 2024 7:10 PM |
I'm sorry, American Orchard sounds like the name of a yogurt brand or something. This is supposed to be luxury?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 14, 2024 7:11 PM |
Per the DM: “It’s a lifestyle and cooking brand .... The brand is meant to coincide with the launch of a new cookery show for Netflix. Meghan will be making, and selling, products such as jams. And at some point there will be a book and blog etc. The brand will focus on home, garden, food and general lifestyle wares.”

She should have gone with Redneck Riviera for the alliteration, as well as the appeal to her core audience.

[quote] Like North Korea, Royals No Longer ‘Trusted Source’ After Kate Photo
Agence France-Presse (AFP) says it no longer considers Kensington Palace a “trusted source” after the truly bizarre case of the Mother’s Day photo which Kate Middleton apologized for editing this week.
Phil Chetwynd, AFP’s global news director, told BBC radio Wednesday about how his agency and others tried to get the palace to provide the original image to establish the extent to which the image had been edited. When they received no reply, they issued “kill” notices informing editors not to publish the doctored photo—a move which Chetwynd says has been more typically associated with images from the regimes of Iran and North Korea rather than the British Royal Family.
The image from Kensington Palace sent social media into meltdown when it was published over the weekend. It’s release was reportedly partly intended to firefight the conflagration of conspiracy theories and speculation sweeping across cyberspace about the princess’ health following her surgery in January. Instead, it poured gasoline on the flames.
“Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing,” read a statement from Kate on Monday. “I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day.”
Speaking on The Media Show, Chetwynd said AFP would previously treat Kensington Palace as a reliable source of images. He said that the offending photograph—which showed the Prince of Wales with her children, but contained several conspicuous anomalies that indicated editing—“clearly violated our rules” and it was a mistake for news agencies, including his own, to have initially cleared it for publication.
“It’s actually not even very well photoshopped,” Chetwynd said. “[There were] clearly a lot of problems with the photo, so it shouldn’t have been validated. I think as soon as it was, all the photo editors at all the major agencies immediately saw there was a problem and got together and spoke about it and [said] ‘what do we do?’”
Asked on the show if Kensington Palace is “still a trusted source” for AFP, Chetwynd answered bluntly: “No, absolutely not.” “Like with anything, when you’re let down by a source, the bar is raised,” he added.
Chetwynd did concede that the saga highlighted “major issues internally as to how we validated that photo” despite its clear violation of standards. “We have sent out notes to all our team at the moment to be absolutely super-more vigilant about the content coming across our desk, even from what we would call trusted sources,” he said.
Asked if he thought it would be helpful for Kensington Palace to release the original image so that the extent of the edits could be made clear, Chetwynd said: “That’s what we asked for.” “Before we killed the photo, we all sent a message saying: ‘Could you give us the originals? Could you, you know, have a reply?’ We didn’t get a reply, so that’s why we killed the photo.”
“It’s a big deal for an agency to issue a kill,” he went on, adding that a kill specifically “on the basis of manipulation” might only come around once a year. “Previous kills we’ve had have been from, you know, the North Korean news agency or the Iranian news agency, just to give you some background or context,” Chetwynd added.
“You cannot be distorting reality for the public,” he said, speaking generally about how much editing should be permitted for photos that are then published by the media. “There’s a question of trust. The big issue here is one of trust and the lack of trust—or the falling trust—of the general public in institutions generally and in the media. And so it’s extremely important that a photo does represent, broadly, the reality that [it was taken in], and therefore it is not, in a sense, telling some kind of lie or some kind of false truth around an event that happens.”

[quote] Chatter of Prince William's 'affair' with Kate Middleton's friend grows
Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has stirred a controversy with a digitally altered family photograph. The photo came on Sunday, Mother's Day in Britain, and after weeks of Kate's disappearance from the public eye after abdominal surgery.
Amid this, Kate's once-close friend Rose Hanbury, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley, is in the headlines after rumours of her affair with Prince William, the Prince of Wales and Kate's husband.
Recently, Kate Middleton's edited family photo, and now, there's another story making the news. It involves Prince William and Kate's best friend, Rose Hanbury.
Rumours of an affair between them resurfaced recently after comedian Stephen Colbert joked about it on his late-night show.
During Tuesday's episode of The Late Show, Colbert dedicated nearly three minutes of his monologue to addressing the rumours.
Colbert playfully said he had some bad news about the British royal family.
"As we were talking about this show yesterday, the kingdom has been all fluttered by the seeming disappearance of Kate Middleton. Well now, internet sleuths are guessing that Kate's absence may be related to her husband's and the future king of England, William, having an affair," Colbert deadpanned, reported by digital news portal CBS8.
He later added, "So, I think we all know who the other alleged woman is -- say it with me -- The Marchioness of Cholmondeley ... now, there have been rumours of an affair between William and [Hanbury] since 2019. According to tabloids back then, when Kate supposed confronted him about he laughed it off, saying there was nothing to it. 'Haha,' always a good response when your wife accuses you of cheating."
This put the rumour mills on overdrive. While some people were looking for a connection between Hanbury and the British royals, others were offering their own takes on an alleged royal scandal.
This is not the first time that rumours of an affair between Hanbury and Prince William have surfaced. The rumours about a romantic relationship between Prince William and Rose Hanbury, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley, first started in April 2019.
A British tabloid started the whole thing, and there were whispers that Kate and Rose had fought around that time too.
Hanbury, a former model, has known Prince William and Kate Middleton for years. Their children even attend the same school, further solidifying their connection.
The public, ever-watchful of the royal family and armed with social media, dissected every detail, turning a whisper into a buzz.
Benny James, a social influencer, took to X and said, "Like father, like son. The apple don’t fall far from the tree, Prince William has apparently been accused of having an affair with Rose Hanbury."
The rumour-mongers didn't stop at suggesting an alleged affair between Prince William and the Marchioness of Cholmondeley, but went on to claim that the two had a daughter named Iris.
"This is what is really going on #PrinceWilliam has a daughter named Iris with #RoseHanbury. Rose's husband found out William is the biological father in Nov. 2023! Wants to sue, so we have not seen #KateMiddleton since Dec. 2023," RiverRun, an X user said.
Despite the online wildfire of tweets, the royal family has remained resolutely silent on the matter. Neither Prince William, Kate Middleton, nor Rose Hanbury have addressed the rumours publicly.
This lack of official comment has only served to heighten the intrigue.
Some believe the silence speaks volumes, while others, like royal biographer Omid Scobie, suggest it's a dangerous tactic.
“Unfortunately, if a rumour’s left to kind of do its own thing, it can run 20 laps around the world before you even think about what, how you want to kind of address it,” Scobie told The Entertainment Tonight.

What does she mean by a lifestyle brand exactly? She tells people how to wear badly tailored clothes badly, how to estrange your entire family and your spouse's, how to accuse everyone including God of racism, how to scrub your topless yachtgirl photos from the internet, how to manipulate traumatized dimwits, how to smile no matter what when there is a camera, how to speed dial the paps, how to lie about everything under the sun?

by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 14, 2024 7:43 PM |
What an awful name. Too many syllables, for one. Is she selling suntan lotion or apples? Product and new brand names get consumer tested to see if they sound appealing, what thoughts and images the name conjures up, does it sound trustworthy, what do you think this brand is about, etc? It's called marketing research. She failed that, not even off the block.
I guess she considers the California coast her riviera and she's got fruit trees on her property. It almost sounds like she wants to become the upscale west coast version of Molly Yeh from Food Network's Girl Meets Farm. Molly can actually cook and started small before she built her little empire.

A dumb and damaged prince goes gaga for a beautiful American starlet on the make- no brains, no talent, no grace. .
She meanwhile revels in faux significance (she’s dumb too) and as a couple they out do every dumb royal grab for pity (none deserved) in a bid to outdo the Kardasian in the rebound.
They are too moronic to hate. They are celebrities by circumstance making fools of themselves doing exactly what they said they abhor. He should know better.

r118 Well i have agree with you minus the dramatic vitriol.I do think they would have been better off sticking to the plan of not releasing anything unless there big developments until after Easter. Mob rule whether by social media or sulking journalists who dont like not having the juicy details are best resisted. Nobody has the right to know her health information although I do think a positive general statement that Catherine is making good progress would have been beneficial buy als that ship has sailed. They need to realise that you cant satisfy social media or the press.Give them something and they will move the goalposts but the reasonable majority would have accepted a general positive update statement.Noboby should be bullied into disclosing personal health information until they ready to or at all.Even the head of state Charles has given limited information and I am quite happy with that.Sure IF he or Catherine choose to reveal more in the future .Great. Infact if any member of the royal family chooses to share health information thats fine. But bullied, told its an obligation on them and the right of everyone else to know is a definite no from me. The Duchess of Kent for example disclosed personal health information in the 1990s and about her miscarriage in the 1970s too but that was a choice and she was rather popular back in the day.

It feels very rushed. It's obviously not a completed brand yet. Nothing to sell. I'm guessing she saw all the hoopla around Kate and then the Diana awards and told her team (aka Mykala typing in the pantry) "Launch it now! Yes, now! I don't care if we only thought of it last night, I'll use my calligraphy skills to make a logo.... what 3 words should we use?? PRESS PUBLISH!"
I hope she never goes away. She cracks me the hell up.

R103 is mentally ill. Kate is not dying, and there is absolutely no evidence that William has a mistress.
Kate will, however, be Queen Catherine, one day while Meghan will be on her fifth "project" attempt, probably trying to sell stinky candles from her American Reefland Grove or whatever she'll try to call it, still insisting that everyone refer to her as "Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.
by Anonymous | reply 158 | March 15, 2024 9:52 AM |
Not only that, r157, but she also overshadowed Harry's dial-it-in Zoom appearance at the Diana Awards. Even more bad timing is that the NAACP-Archewell Foundation Award recipient was also announced last night. That the Diana Awards and the NAACP awards were announced on the same night is a coincidence (although the NAACP awards are usually held in February). The date for both events must have been known for a while, however, yet Meghan chose the very same day to announce her online store.
The fact that she launched her brand right now is even worse timing for Meghan, in that she's distracting the faux hyped-up hysteria over Kate to herself. Surely she could have held off for a brief period, especially given that all she's done is launch a website and Instagram account with blurry images?

[quote]Jessica Alba's diaper company is worth over $1 billion, supposedly.

What do all these women have in common? They have a clearly defined brand. None of them used whining and victimhood as part of their public image. Even Jessica Simpson being bashed for wearing mom jeans and blowing up weight wise after her pregnancies just used the criticism to be more relatable, because being relatable is part of her public image. No matter how rich she’s gotten she’s super consistent with that.
The Harkles never seem to know what they want to be or the approach they want to take. Besides, Meghan can use her Duchess title all she wants but she only cheapens it in regards to herself. She didn’t earn the title in the eyes of the public the way Princess Diana did and Princess Catherine has. You have to do your Royal duties, reflect well on the Crown and not complain to succeed with that. Princess Diana got away with bashing the Monarchy’s treatment of her after many years of hard work where she presented an elegant and dignified public image befitting of her title. Even still, I think she tarnished her image by being so open about all her complaints.
Part of the success of the Monarchy has always been dependent on the public’s belief that a Royal is living up to their title. You’ll be dragged like crazy if you aren’t. Look at Fergie. She never could get it together.

A part of me wishes she could generate a nice stable income of 10m a year with this so she'd leave the RF alone. However, the name, logo and video are awful. These goods are probably doomed to be remaindered at Marshall's and Cost Plus/World Market. I don't think her mental health is all that strong and with so many people jeering her, I think she's heading toward a breakdown, followed by a book, followed by a sympathy tour based on her being a figure of international derision and cyberbullying. She likes saying "it didn't have to be that way." Boy, is that true. They could have been good soldiers, followed the playbook and vacationed in fabulous places for a third of the year. Meghan could have made the case internally for replarations. She could have played a role in many causes. She just couldn't handle being a supporting player. It's good to know your limitations. A shame that neither she nor her husband do.

American Riviera Orchard (I had to stop and think before writing each word as I couldn't remember what came next - hardly memorable!) reminds me of Blake Lively's failed venture "Preserve" which shut down in 2015. The aesthetic was very similar as were the non-existent offerings. Part of the reason BL shut it down, in her own words, was because she launched before she was ready. Hmmm. Sound familiar? At least Blake Lively landed an actually successful and savvy husband who helped her launch her next venture in the beverage business.

by Anonymous | reply 182 | March 15, 2024 2:39 PM |
Clunky name, undistinguished logo. She can do private labeling but coming up with her own food product like Martha Stewart takes a lot of time and expense. You have to work with a chef, source ingredients, make sure they’re safe to eat, figure out the calories and whatever goes on the nutrition label, make it in a commercial kitchen, source the jars, figuring out packing and shipping cost if it’s going to be strictly online or hire a sales rep to flog it to small shops. And then price it competitively. Designing the label is the easiest part and I hope Megs reserves it for herself. If she goes private label, she can’t make too many alterations to the process that the company has set up which will trigger her micromanagement.

If you have no issue with her using her title, then you shouldn't have any with Meghan, Duchess of Sussex using her title
Why are folks asking Meghan to act differently from 99 percent of married women, why are you so desperate to separate her from the man she married, that`s weird.

by Anonymous | reply 211 | March 15, 2024 6:28 PM |
Markle could have had a huge platform as a member of the royal family if she had only played the long game. She threw it all away. She's a fucking lying grifter without a creative bone in her body.

Sarah, Duchess of York is entitled to use the title unless she were to remarry someone other than Andrew. Sarah is likable.

by Anonymous | reply 213 | March 15, 2024 6:33 PM |
Sarah Ferguson uses the name Sarah Ferguson for a lot of her work. In any case, she never trashed the royal family. Meghan not only left the royals and trashed the royals, she deliberately incited many to be anti-monarchy, while grifting on her royal title. And, yes, it does sound fucking ridiculous to demand that everyone in the US refers to you as Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, let alone to use that to merch junk.

R216 is an imbecile. It doesn't raise anyone's blood pressure that Meghan exploits the title "Meghan, Duchess of Sussex", which she only acquired through marriage into the "racist" royal family when she wed a now ex-working royal. It makes us laugh, and also cringe sometimes. She looks absolutely fucking ridiculous when she uses that title, especially the pompous way in which she does it.

Anyone who knows anything about British royal titles, r223. I can see that it impresses some dim Americans such as yourself, but you know fuck all.
And that's the most hilarious thing. The American Meghan stans - who absolutely hate the royal family thanks to Meghan - are the most dim gullible idiots who are impressed by that royal title. They are in awe whenever they hear or see the words "Meghan, Duchess of Sussex". Make your minds up: is the royal family a bunch of racist cumstains or are their titles something to be amazed by?

by Anonymous | reply 228 | March 15, 2024 7:21 PM |
She only ever saw the marriage as a commercial opportunity. She couldn’t believe that she wasn’t going to be paid directly for public engagements. Presumably Harry was too dim to warn her. She has to play it out to its conclusion now.
by Anonymous | reply 229 | March 15, 2024 7:21 PM |
Her instagram account already has 400,00 followers. How much of that is real or bought we can't know.
It's possible she'll have a large following among young black women. There aren't that many black women (well...that's what she considers herself) in the "lifestyle" racket.
She'll do the rounds of the daytime talk shows and promote the shit out of it.
The story is already on every news outlet which is all free publicity and worth gold.
She has a big estate, lots of rooms, gardens, kids, pets...she has a lot to play with. It's a great background to launch products.
With the right production team and creatives behind her she could pull it off.
But that name is horrible. Three words that don't work well together.
The teaser video looks like a wedding photographer had problems with his video equipment and lighting and tried to save his footage by blurring everything and hoping the bride was stupid enough to think it's arty.
The logo...a monogram... is a tangled mess.
But the press is going to be following her every move... and today that counts for everything.

R226 nobody is "in awe" of the title per say, we're in awe of fools like you who only add or subtract meaning to these titles based on whether or not you like the person in the moment. If you like Meghan the title has meaning, or if you don't like Meghan then you declare it has no meaning. See how that works? But it's only funny to laugh at the idiots who try to subtract meaning from the title just because they now don't like her.

Imagine walking away from a guaranteed job for life. The perks of the job included lifetime housing, car, staff, security, part-time working hours with a massive staff to do all the real leg work, unlimited vacation and sick days and health insurance. Walked away from these lifetime perks just because they couldn't ever be promoted to CEO of the firm and would always be a Vice President. Seriously, the entire job description was: shake hands and make small talk. The majority of the population of the world don't ever make it to the rank of Vice President or even Regional Director or Regional Manager.
Additionally, I can't imagine their children will have any kind of people skills since they have no exposure to family or anyone it seems. Well except for Doria who didn't even raise her own kid and always looks stoned. Much like Michael Jackson's kids.

Meghan would have been Patron to The National Theatre. Can you imagine how thrilling that would be? I'd give almost anything to do that. And while Wills is Patron to the BAFTAs, I'm sure Meghan could have scored tickets and walked the red carpet and partied with all the major names.

She sold things on QVC, Weightwatchers, books etc using that title. She borrowed money from xes traffickers, gun smugglers using that title. She sold access to her watless ex husband using that title. She filed for bankruptcy several time using that title.

Ferries most hostile act against the monarchy was to moan that Prince Philip didn't like her. She didn't attack the institution or any other members. R281, she can still use the title (which is not a name) but it sounds absolutely ridiculous outside of its context, i.e. as a working member of the British royal family with jurisdiction only in the UK. Those duke titles are only given by the monarch when a son/grandson of the monarch marries and it is expected that he and his future spouse will perform duties as working royals representing the monarch. It's not Harry's title by birth right - it was given to him as a gift from the Queen on marriage to Meghan based on the expectation that they would be performing royal duties, representing the Queen, then Charles, then William. Given that things turned as they did, it sounds even more fucking ludicrous that she uses it to merch tat in the US.

R281 I’m sure that you won’t have the capacity to comprehend more than a few words, however I’ll try to educate you:
Fergie (a.k.a Sarah Ferguson) is formally known as “Sarah, Duchess of York”, as the former wife of the Duke of York. This useage is also applied to any widow of the Duke of York. Sarah calls herself “The Duchess of York” in her many failed attempts to sell something - anything! - to the mouth breathing American punter. She’s not entitled to do this.
Meghan is formally known as The Duchess of Sussex (she was previously styled HRH until directed not to use that by her husbands late grandmothe). Meghan inserts the “Meghan, “ as she is hugely egotistical and also too fucking stupid to realise that she is presenting herself as Harry’s ex-wife. No doubt this will come soon enough.
Of course if I had the ridiculous name of Meghan Markle I’d be clutching onto something else as well.

Exactly, r307, Meghan isn't even using the title properly. Because she can't use the HRH, she tries to fill in the "blank space" by adding "Meghan", but that just ends up as almost how she would be styled if she were divorced from Harry (the slight difference being that Sarah is "Sarah, Duchess of York" and not "Sarah, The Duchess of York").

The choice of such an awkward name is already a big sign that this is not something that has been seriously thought out and no real market research done. Because Meghan knows it all already!
The other problem for her is that everything that American Riviera Orchard sell or promote will be relentlessly mocked. Goop stuff may have been relentlessly mocked, but at least there is a marketable angle to her project and it fits with Gwyneth's personality. If Meghan and Harry are aiming for an "above it all" and "dignified" attitude, this is entirely the wrong way to go about it.

I'm guessing there are drop down menus to choose which items the trademark will cover and they probably checked all the boxes just in case. But no one else will either because it's covered in the trademark.

When they mingle with "A List" celebrities they know that, in words of Helen Mirren in her tribute to Q E II, the celebrities are her supporting cast; beneath her.

That r373 has some bizarre obsession with Meghan having a title, as though it's meant to mean something. The only context that title has any meaning in is in the UK as it was given to Harry and by extension his bride when he got married on the assumption that they were going to be working royals. They are not working royals, so the title is meaningless. If the Queen knew that the were going to leave the UK after a couple of years, she would never have given them the title.

If she were the slightest bit likeable, you might almost feel sorry for her plight, self-inflicted though it is. After a lifetime battling against her own worthlessness in pursuit of fame, it falls spectacularly in her lap at an age when it had come to seem impossible. But the fame turned her head and she forgot about her worthlessness and the decades in the desert. In the pursuit of the even bigger pot of gold she’s right back where she started, desperately seeking some endeavour at which she won’t be worthless.

And the beige sepia hue that all the images are bathed in - that's image manipulation. I suspect it's not just to create a brand image, though, but to cover up how basic and cheap the original images are.

Re the Nietzsche "quote" at r415, does she have a licence or professional qualification to be able to claim that she can offer "health and wellness" products?

Why is she shilling a farmers’ market in Oakland? Will she have a stall laden with her jams, jellies and chickens?

Meghan’s end of week wind down is truly inspirational - from Go fish with “A” to movie night with “H”, but what about little “L-D”?
Even Blaine (Tre Lune) and Victoria (cooking with) got name dropped.

Goop looks good in designer clothes. Gorgeous Calvin Klein dresses in her Brad days, the red Gucci suit. The pink Oscars dress and styling = terrible, same for her McQueen look the following year. On the whole, though, she can promote expensive goods because she's looked good for decades.
Meghan, however, doesn't even know not to tuck in shirts, tops and blouses.
by Anonymous | reply 427 | March 17, 2024 1:46 AM |
r419 I assume "health and wellness" is one of those unprotected made up sounds good phrases anyone can use without a license or training. Like the legal difference between a nutritionist and a dietician.

Buying jellies and jams from this broad?! Good lord. Just pick up your jellies and jams at Ralphs. If you want a little something different, buy them at Trader Joes. And if you want to buy overpriced jellies and jams, go to Whole Foods.
No one needs to be buying even more overpriced, pretentious jellies and jams from Meghan Markle who knows nothing about nothing.
by Anonymous | reply 452 | March 17, 2024 6:37 AM |
Seems to me that her jams & spreads (yuck) will have to have a premium price to seem “classy”. But anyone willing to spend money on posh foods will be too embarrassed to have her crap in their pantries.
I reckon this will fail spectacularly. Should be fun, though.
by Anonymous | reply 453 | March 17, 2024 8:06 AM |
R451 must be photoshopped, right?
by Anonymous | reply 454 | March 17, 2024 9:09 AM |

More like the Doofus of Sussex.
by Anonymous | reply 456 | March 17, 2024 10:05 AM |
I'm wondering why she rushed to get this out. The company was only registered a few weeks ago so I can't imagine they've got much product ready to go. The longer she keeps that Instagram account solely as a placeholder and without adding to it, the more ridiculous it will look and start to raise questions as to what exactly is going on.
by Anonymous | reply 457 | March 17, 2024 10:27 AM |
The fact she's including Montecito in the branding makes me think she's trying to do something like Highgrove, Charles' private residence which sells jams, teas, hampers and other goodies. The Orchard of the American Riviera is the land attached to her house.
Charles put a heck of a lot of work into building up Highgrove as a viable estate and the proceeds go to his charity. Will ARO's proceeds go to Archewell?
by Anonymous | reply 458 | March 17, 2024 10:35 AM |
When is this bitch going to hem her pants and wear tops she doesn't tuck in? A decent bra wouldn't go astray, either

R454, comparing the pic at r451 with that at r459, I'd say, no, that r451 isn't photoshopped. Her trousers as seen in r459 are so long she could trip over them, but at r451 they aren't trailing on the ground so much. Looks like she had to pull them up quite high so she could walk without tripping over.

Some new posts up on the Instagram account. I think it’s the real one, no misspellings. Clips from the Netflix documentary, all very dramatic or emphasizing the lovey-dovey, the CONNECTION they have (as demonstrated by her clutching his arm in every scene). Adding the new [sic] content disrupted the original 9 square logo post. Ought to delete those and just have all on one.
No products for sale yet.
by Anonymous | reply 462 | March 17, 2024 11:56 AM |
Still only the 9 squares logo for me, r462.
The account was created in January 2024 and verified in March 2024.

by Anonymous | reply 464 | March 17, 2024 12:09 PM |
If the instagram with the updated video clips is real, they are just rehashing the victim narrative again. Do they really want their (her?) shiny new brand to be replaying clips about how victimized Meghan was??? I am finding it hard to believe this is the real Instagram, but I guess it must be? A massive branding misstep if true.
by Anonymous | reply 465 | March 17, 2024 12:15 PM |
The fake websites look better than the "real" one. Say a prayer for the American Rivalry Orchard webmaster, who will take buckets of abuse from their clueless narcissistic overlord (no wonder Harry has escaped to Aspen for a littke rendezvous).
by Anonymous | reply 466 | March 17, 2024 12:24 PM |
That's a fake account, r465, only the verified account is real.
The fact that all these "believable" fake accounts have been created just shows how oblivious Meghan is and how she's opening a can of worms which she has no idea how to handle.
If there was a fully formed brand, with products ready to go and lots of online content, as well as proper press releases explaining what this is all about, then it wouldn't be so bad. She would still have the usual trollery that everyone in the public eye does but it would be insignificant.
By rushing the launch of the IG account and the website, having just a "teaser" with no indication of what is coming next or when, she's just bringing more sceptical attention to herself.

by Anonymous | reply 474 | March 17, 2024 3:07 PM |
Wow, r460 is right. She never learns, does she? The first time she wore palazzos was when she attended Wimbledon with Catherine; the Ralph Laurens were dragging all over the ground. Do they not have seamstresses on the American Riviera?
Though I live in California, I didn't know SB fancies itself a Riviera. The first thing that I (and probably most Americans) thought is the "Redneck Riviera" -- Florida's panhandle that's full of trailer parks, pickups with gun racks, MAGAts, strip joints and peep shows, casinos, dog racing tracks, small DIY churches, and a poverty rate above the national average.
If she'd done the appropriate research suggested by r38 and others, this surely would have come up in focus groups.

Yeah what's the matter with her? You would think that's her fucking husband or something. You know, the man she's married to you chronically single loser. I know it's quite a change to see an openly affectionate married couple with an active sex life, as opposed to the dry, sexless and mostly empty bedrooms over at casa de Wales. Someone has already started selling stuff under "Redneck Riviera": whiskey, apparel, and boots.

R481, constant demonstrative clinging in public is rarely the sign of a healthy relationship. With these two there's also the added need to show that they are some kind of great love that will defeat all adversity.
As for William, only a moron would believe these ridiculous fabricated rumours for which there is no evidence and you obviously have no idea where any of them live if you think Rose is just next door.

It's not hard to believe that William has a mistress. Maybe not Rose, but someone else. He's a wealthy, powerful men and that's what they do.
IMO, Kate seems like she'd be able to look the other way as long as William didn't flaunt the relationship.
by Anonymous | reply 485 | March 17, 2024 5:15 PM |
The official account has hidden the number of likes. That's usually a sign that there are far fewer likes than hoped for. And, in fact, you can quickly scroll through the accounts that have liked the posts, which indicates that there aren't many likes at all.
The likes/followers ratio is very low, which also suggests that many of the accounts following are paid for.
Of course, there's not much to like as of yet, which also begs the question of why this account was launched now when it has so little content and the products don't appear ready yet, judging from the late registration of the brand.
by Anonymous | reply 486 | March 17, 2024 5:21 PM |
R483 Yes, because seeing genuine affection between a married couple is definitely no proof of a healthy marriage (eyeroll). R3520, I have no truck with these fake "royal experts" and their mostly fiction books, but I am currently reading a book called "Miss Dior: A Story of Courage and Couture" by Justine Picardie about Christian Dior and his sister Catherine, who was in the French resistance and was sent to Ravensbrück concentration camp. Picardie sees Catherine as the Miss Dior behind the fragrance of that name, inspired by the family garden she and Christian tended together as children and in their younger years.
There is a fantastic chapter titled Princess Dior, which is about British royalty (and Wallis) and Dior. Princess Margaret was a big fan of Christian Dior and Christian was ecstatic over her support for him and his clothes. The chapter also covers how the Duchess of York and later Queen Elizabeth (and later Queen Mother) had a rather dowdy dress sense when she first married yet how, through working with Noman Hartnell, she worked out a style that worked for her and gave her a greater sense of gravitas.
Dior was very happy to dress Wallis Simpson but he didn't see her as anywhere in the same league as Princess Margaret. Picardie also details just how pitiful the Duke of Windsor was during his effective exile in France and indeed how Wallis dominated and sometimes degraded him.
The chapter also really brings home how the Windsors were completely cut off from the rest of the royal family after the abdication. The Duchess of York (i.e. Queen Mother) couldn't abide Wallis from the moment she first appeared on the scene. In France, after the abdication, some people were still under the impression that the Duke of Windsor had some influence and relevance. The most hilarious/appalling example of this is Hitler and the Windsors infamous visit to Germany as Hitler's guests. American Vogue loved stories about Wallis and her clothes, while British Vogue found her somewhat distasteful.
The parallels between the two couples - the Windsors back then, the Sussexes today - are striking, although there are of course also great differences. But Harry and Meghan really are the Edward and Wallis of their era.

[QUOTE]Dior was very happy to dress Wallis Simpson but he didn't see her as anywhere in the same league as Princess Margaret.
Not in the same league in terms of background and breeding, but Wallis was a tiny woman, the perfect clothes hanger for a designer. Did he consider Margaret a better conversationalist or personality than the Duchess?
by Anonymous | reply 528 | March 18, 2024 1:35 AM |
To be fair if she considered you of her social rank I'd imagine chainsmoking drunk Margaret was quite fun in her youth before the misery caught up with her. That "which one? My husband, my mother or my sister?" response when someone asked how the queen was is certainly the funniest thing a Windsor has ever said.

R528 before all the booze kicked in, Margaret had a perfect figure for Dior. She was very short but had a tiny waist and a voluptuous bustling (I know - MARY!). He created one of his and definitely her most famous ball gowns for her 21st birthday.

It's a great book r526, I finished it last night after I managed to tear myself away from DL. Paris is a protagonist of the book in its own right.
I haven't seen it yet, r539, but I just read that the book was an inspiration for the portrayal of Catherine Dior, so thanks for the recommendation, I will definitely watch it.
This is a great passage from Picardie's book that sums up the reaction to an 18-year-old Princess Margaret on her first European holiday:
[quote]In May 1949, Christian Dior’s status as fashion royalty was confirmed as a result of a visit by Princess Margaret to his couture salon. She was eighteen years old, and on her first European holiday. The young princess created a sensation wherever she went, attracting swarms of photographers and journalists, for as Christian recalled in his memoir, ‘she crystallised the whole popular frantic interest in royalty … She was a real fairy princess, delicate, graceful, exquisite.’ Such was the frenzy surrounding Margaret that she had been pursued throughout Italy in the preceding days by paparazzi, who captured images of her in a bikini on the island of Capri, which were then published around the world. Meanwhile, an intrepid female journalist slipped into Margaret’s hotel suite, and reported that it contained a detective story by Dorothy L. Sayers called Busman’s Honeymoon, a bottle of Tweed perfume and a phial of Peggy Sage nail polish.
Yes, Wallis looked good in clothes but there was no way she could cause the kind of stir that a young Princess Margaret did, especially considering some of Wallis's questionable moral choices.
Christian Dior was also a big lover of British culture, the tweeds and the traditions, which also explains why he adored Princess Margaret, as she represented all that, as William and Catherine do for many today.
This is what Meghan doesn't get as she tries to compete with Catherine (and she is definitely trying to compete with Catherine) - she just doesn't have "it", while Catherine has "it" in spades. On top of that, Meghan doesn't even have Wallis's physique or sense of style. If Meghan really wants to be a lifestyle guru then she has a lot of work to do.

[quote] Yes, Wallis looked good in clothes but there was no way she could cause the kind of stir that a young Princess Margaret did, especially considering some of Wallis's questionable moral choices.
And she was ugly as fuck.
Catherine has been very consistent with her style once she married William. She always leans conservative rather than edgy or sexy. Plus she is very consistent. Whoever she has been working with through the years has guided her well.
Meghan is not the advice taking type. Plus, she tries to be a bit edgy and sexy with her looks and succeeds at neither. She should have focused on making sure her clothes were as flattering and well tailored as possible which means that she wouldn’t have always worn what she was attracted to because it might not be flattering. That’s my take on it anyway. I mean Sarah and Beatrice wear what they want because they’re Royal by blood and nobody expects them to look that great anyway. So Beatrice can wear a stupid hat for a bit of controversy and humor, for example.
by Anonymous | reply 542 | March 18, 2024 1:55 PM |
Bea's hat wasn't funny at her cousin William's wedding, and was widely ridiculed and seen as her comnent on Catherine the commoner. Cunt move.
by Anonymous | reply 543 | March 18, 2024 2:07 PM |
On a more pleasant note, I read yesterday that Catherine has the genetics and discipline to maintain a 24" waist through three pregnancies. Hail C!
by Anonymous | reply 544 | March 18, 2024 2:15 PM |
I didn’t realize it was a passive aggressive dig at Catherine. I saw it as a tongue in cheek poke at the pomp of royal weddings. And also because girl doesn’t measure up looks wise and she has to know that so why bother to try?
by Anonymous | reply 545 | March 18, 2024 2:17 PM |
I'm not a fan of MM, but even so, her lack of taste in clothes really baffles me.
She apparently spent a fortune on clothes (paid for by her father-in-law, Charles) while she was a working royal and most of what she wore was a stunningly bad choice.
I count only 2 exceptions where she looked good. One was a simple yellow sheath dress. The other was the rather sparkly steel blue dress she wore to the concert at the Albert Hall.
The times she looked terrible are too numerous to count. But, I have to remark on what might have been the worst - the first post wedding appearance at a country wedding of one of Harry's friends or relatives. The Oscar de la Renta print dress, accessorized by the toilet paper holder like device on her head.
I have to assume there must have been mirrors where she was living, but perhaps she is like those women who continue with plastic surgery to the point of shocking ugliness. She doesn't really see what she looks like?
by Anonymous | reply 546 | March 18, 2024 2:58 PM |
Beatrice often wears funky hats. Check out the one she wore to Peter Philips' wedding. I doubt she would ever poke fun at her family and its traditions, especially not publicly.
If anything was a statement, then it's more likely to have been the "understated" hat she wore to Harry and Meghan's wedding. A subdued moment, not a moment for fun and rocking out with the cousins at a family wedding.

it’s a shame she never allowed her hair to be styled in its natural state. i know that it’s a lot of upkeep but isn’t constantly straightening/relaxing/adding extensions to it just as much bother? i think keeping her natural hair texture would have been a brilliant move and would have looked lovely, what a pity. She went with a real housewives beverly hills middle part long horse hair extensions thing, how boring! and it must take so much work for such a mediocre result.

For all the bitching about Meghan, her hair is the pettiest, IMO. I have coarse and wavy hair and it’s a bitch to deal with. I can see why people just straighten or flat iron their hair and call it a day.

Some helpful poster upthread posted the new BRF page on Meghan and Harry. IMO, more interesting than the IG on this stupid company.
Apparently, the 2 used to have separate pages on the BRF website, 5,000 (?) words each / per page. Now, the 2 are on the same page, 500 words total for both.
Also, the new combo page reiterates that they "stepped back" from royal duties.

Prince Carl Philip of Sweden co-runs a design company, which makes scarves and throws, under his family name as Carl Philip Bernadotte, and he's a an active member of his royal family. It's even named after him and his partner - Bernadotte & Kylberg.
That's how Meghan should have done it, under her own name, either as Meghan Markle or Meghan Mountbatten-Windsor, not merching off "The Duchess of Sussex".

by Anonymous | reply 584 | March 19, 2024 7:31 PM |
It's called a logo, r583.
The design studio Bernadotte & Kylberg has in fact been around for over 10 years, the scarf store is a new initiative. There are multiple ways to be a royal and still have your own profession. Edward even ran a production company (for which he was mercilessly mocked by the British media, because that's all they do). Neither Carl Philip nor Edward used their royal titles for these ventures, though.
[quote]Bernadotte & Kylberg is a global design agency with a passion for Nordic design. Drawing on their Swedish heritage, the multi award-winning design duo’s philosophy is to create unique and timeless design products with the end user in focus.
[quote]Working with industrial and graphic design for renowned domestic and international brands, their conviction is that good design is about functional simplicity in everything from the choice of materials to shape and color.
[quote]Through novel textures, high-end materials and techniques, they see their task as questioning how we use and look at an object, thereby creating innovative design that lasts for generations. Bernadotte & Kylberg’s aim since the start in 2012 is to make the world a better and more beautiful place, one design product at a time.

One thing , among many, that sets Carl Philip apart from Meghan is that he has long-standing interest in design and studied in Sweden and the U.S. (Parsons or Rhode Island, can't remember which). He's knowledgeable and seems to work well with others to have maintained his partnership for so long. Meghan needs the title because her merchandise probably couldn't sell on its own merits.

As ridiculous as I think Meghan is, I can see her site, if it is ever launched, being a success—at least initially—based on curiosity alone. But running a retail operation is a lot of work, and we all know that Madame Carparkle is not down for that. There's sourcing, inventory management, pricing strategy and so on. Anyone she hires who actually knows what they're doing will be run off in a matter of months from having to deal with her tantrums and general lack of interest.
by Anonymous | reply 596 | March 21, 2024 2:51 PM |
It's been a week since the placeholders were put up online and since then we've had nothing. This really isn't he way to launch a brand, which needs lots of promotion, follow-ups, creatives, campaigns, publicity appearances, media blitzes, and, especially, products. The number of new Instagram followers has slowed to a crawl. So, yes, there may be an initial flurry of interest whenever AOR is finally launched, if it ever is, but it will wane and, as r596 says, running a business takes work but Meghan is fickle. The worst thing, however, will be when the products are out and they start being reviewed. AOR is already being mocked and if the products are as bad as it appears they will be then that will not only ensure AOR is a commercial disaster but will be a huge PR blow for the Harkles. They really don't think things through.
by Anonymous | reply 597 | March 21, 2024 5:57 PM |

Meghan's lack of brand savvy is perfectly illustrated in R597's post where the poster keeps writing AOR rather than ARO. This will keep happening.
