Palace Denies Reports That Kate Middleton Was in a Coma

The record is being set straight on Kate Middleton's recent health scare.

Following the Princess of Wales' abdominal surgery in January, journalist Concha Calleja falsely claimed on the popular Spanish news program Fiesta that Princess Kate, 42, was in a coma due to complications, The Times reported.

"The doctors had to take drastic decisions at that moment because of the complications that arose," she said, according to The Times. “The decision was to put her in an induced coma. They had to intubate her. There were serious complications that they didn’t expect because the operation went well, but the postoperative period didn’t go so well."

Calleja reported that Kate's life was in "great danger" following the surgery and that "practically an entire hospital" was set up in the royal's home for the recovery process. Other Spanish media outlets also picked up the report.

However, a palace source vehemently denied the claims, PEOPLE understands.

"It’s total nonsense," a palace source told The Times. "No attempt was made by that journalist to fact-check anything that she said with anyone in the household. It’s fundamentally, totally made-up, and I’ll use polite English here: it’s absolutely not the case."

Kensington Palace announced on Jan. 17 that the Princess of Wales underwent a "planned abdominal surgery" at The London Clinic the previous day. While her diagnosis was kept private, it is known to be noncancerous.

The palace added that the surgery was "successful," but her recovery would require her to stay at the hospital for up to two weeks. After 13 days at The London Clinic, Princess Kate returned home to Windsor on Monday, where she will continue her recovery. She is not expected to return to royal duty until after Easter, the palace said.

"The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private," Kensington Palace said in their initial statement on the health news. "Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share."

Prince William is taking some time away from royal duty to help his family during his wife's recovery.

King Charles also underwent a medical procedure this month, seeking treatment for an enlarged prostate.

On Jan. 29, Charles was captured in photographs leaving the hospital through the front entrance after his discharge, while Kate, in line with her wish for privacy, departed discreetly.

Royal author Robert Hardman tells PEOPLE exclusively, "In both the Princess and the King's cases, this shows a handling of very personal, very delicate matters that you wouldn't have seen in the past. It would have been a much more guarded response. It shows they are adapting to the times."

"Yes, the public has a right to know some things, but not everything," he adds.

[quote] Spanish journalist Concha Calleja doubles down and reaffirms statement

Spanish journalist Concha Calleja responded after KP denied coma rumors: "I reaffirm what I said...This happens when you touch a nerve, it is annoying. I fully trust my source. What happens is that they feel upset because we have discovered the truth."

Isn't this old news? And did anyone really believe the palace's version.of events?

by Anonymousreply 2March 13, 2024 3:40 AM

Who knows whether her story is true or not but Concha Calleja is legit, a serious journalist, not some wacko.

She also claims Kate was admitted to the hospital not in mid January, but on December 28th.

by Anonymousreply 3March 13, 2024 3:48 AM

I still believe the Palace source, but I assume the Spanish journalist believes her source and also unfortunately believes that Kate MIddleton has no right to privacy while recovering from a serious health issue, even though she gave a timeframe for recovery which she's still well within. Seems unethical.

A ruptured appendix is treated with IV antibiotics in the hospital and then once the infection clears, the appendix is removed. So it would have been a planned but rather sudden surgery. She could have had complications before or after.

by Anonymousreply 14March 13, 2024 4:24 AM

Um...nope, unless things have changed. A ruptured appendix is removed right away as it is spewing pus into the body cavity. THEN, the person is put on IV antibiotics for up to a month to protect against further infection.

There is a lot of detail in Calleja's story.

It would be highly unusual for a respected journalist to just make up something like that.

I believe her.

The BRF and Kensington Palace have lost all credibility with PhotoGate.

They're just going to keep lying, and lying, and lying, and trying to discredit anyone who comes forward with the real story.

It's what they do.

If I had to choose between believing a respected Spanish journalist with a detailed story, and Kensington Palace officials saying, "She's a liar!" trust me that I'll go with the Spanish journalist.

R15 it has changed from 25 years ago. Surgery is done after the infection clears.

by Anonymousreply 21March 13, 2024 4:58 AM

r21 - are you sure? why would you let pus infected material spew throughout the body cavity when you could remove it, then treat the aftermath???

I'd like some references...that doesn't make a lot of sense.

by Anonymousreply 22March 13, 2024 5:02 AM

[quote] How long can you leave a burst appendix? Most cases of a ruptured appendix occur about 48 – 72 hours after the onset of symptoms. A ruptured appendix is always considered an emergency and requires immediate treatment. If left untreated, a ruptured appendix can lead to widespread infection, abscess, sepsis (an infection in the bloodstream), and even death.

by Anonymousreply 23March 13, 2024 5:04 AM

Link for r22. A family member just went through this in October. IV antibiotics in hospital for 48 hours, oral antibiotics for a few weeks followed by surgery to remove the ruptured appendix.

Did you read your link r24?

there are criterion on whether it's prudent to wait.

it's not a cut and dried set of protocol, depending on the situation. If there's fever, you immediately remove the appendix and then administer IV antibiotics.

Because this is an organ spewing out infection via pus into the body cavity, I'd hardly think that they'd WAIT to remove a ruptured appendix with Kate Middleton, given the risk of sepsis/death.

[quote] THE NEWEST AND HIDDEN VISION OF THE KING OF POP!In the early morning of June 25, 2009, Michael Jackson's doctor enters his room and finds him out of breath. His pulse is barely detectable. Hours later his death is declared at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center, and the news goes around the world. The Michael Jackson case was "so famous that no one knows about it." That is the answer that the author gives to why she has been involved in the investigation of what could happen that night. The official version does not suit her. The results of her investigations make up this volume, where she lets us see Jackson's profile and the psychological autopsy she performs, under the strange mysteries of his death. In this book, Calleja opens a meticulous investigation, in which the reader can solve at the same time the unknowns that remain unanswered ten years after his death: What if the doctor convicted of involuntary homicide was not the culprit of the death of Jackson? What if the homicide was not involuntary? Who is behind his death? Who did it benefit? Was he worth more dead than alive? And, fundamentally, who was really Michael Jackson? From the hand of the author the reader will know the forensic testimonies, the federal, police and judicial evidence, the economic data and will see the images, the graphics and the unpublished documents in her archive. Everything at your disposal to give your verdict. A case that is still alive, a goal and a mystery that continues to move the world. Because Michael Jackson is - regardless of who it weighs - more news than ever.

It's pretty unlikely that a 42-year-old woman in good physical condition with access to the best healthcare in the world and no problem getting anywhere in time (lol) would end up in a coma due to that. It can happen, but it's pretty unlikely. I still think it's something to do with her appearance.

by Anonymousreply 41March 13, 2024 12:56 PM

Exactly, R39.

They should release a statement about the exact nature of the surgery, detailing what she went through. And carefully explain her recovery has been arduous but steady. It would immediately generate good will for her, her husband, and their children. People would sympathize with her and do so much to mitigate the circumstances of the photoshopped image.

I am so sick and tired of those dimwitted nitwits in Montecito, who lambaste the press and what i did to Diana, yet do everything they can to court the press when it "Suits" them.

Catherine went through the same wringer as Meghan. And I do not believe the pressure was harsher on Meghan. Catherine had photos of her taken and published sunbathing in the semi-nude. Yes, there was some racist comments about Meghan, but the reporting by the gutter press was more misogynist about both of them than simply racist about her.

People forget that William just like Harry lost his mother. She was an emotionally fragile woman, who leaned on him too much. He understands the toll the press took on her. Rather than suing and courting the press like his dimwitted brother, however, William and his wife are cutting the press completely off from their private lives and those of their children. It's his right to do so. It has its pitfalls. Issue the statement like I wrote above, but then tell them we want our privacy.

Let's talk about the husband....

[quote] The Truth About Rose Hanbury Daughter’s Father

The royal rumor mill never stops, and this time, the internet’s latest obsession is the identity of Rose Hanbury’s daughter’s father and what happened between her and Prince William all those years ago.

Hanbury, whose full name is Sarah Rose Cholmondeley, is the Marchioness of Cholmondeley and wife of David Cholmondeley, 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley. Hanbury and Cholmondeley married at Chelsea Town Hall in London on June 24, 2009—just two days after announcing their engagement. The couple went on to have three children: twin sons Alexander Hugh George Cholmondeley and Oliver Timothy George Cholmondeley, and daughter Lady Iris Marina Aline Cholmondeley.

Hanbury, for her part, is the daughter of website designer Timothy Hanbury and fashion designer Emma Hanbury. Her sister, Marina, is also of noble association. She’s the third wife of Edward Lambton, the 7th Earl of Durham. The Marquess and Marchioness were also close friends with the Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince William and Kate Middleton.

In March 2019, rumors swirled that Prince William, a close friend of the Marquess and Marchioness, had cheated on his wife, Kate Middleton, with Hanbury, who had an alleged fallout with Middleton. There were also rumors that Hanbury’s daughter, Iris, is actually William’s child.

While neither William nor Hanbury have ever addressed the rumors, royal expert Omid Scobie told Entertainment Tonight in 2023 that he considered writing more about the drama in his royal biography, Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, however, as the affair allegations were never confirmed. “I was very careful in the book to really focus on this, as the allegations against William, Kate’s and their fallout with Rose Hanbury,” Scobie said. “For legal reasons, there are so many things that one can’t go into.”

He continued: “But, I thought it was really important to mention, even if a rumor is a rumor.”

He added that, because William and Kate “never addressed” the affair rumor with Hanbury, it will likely “never go away,” however, that doesn’t mean that the story is true. “Unfortunately, if a rumor’s left to kind of do its own thing, it can run 20 laps around the world before you even think about what, how you want to kind of address it,” he said.

Scobie also claimed that Kensington Palace feared the rumors would “impact negatively on William’s reputation” and alleged that the Firm used Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s exit from the British royal family that year as a way to divert attention from the gossip. “The rumors trend on Twitter on a regular basis,” Scobie said. “That’s something that’s incredibly damaging, I think, for William.” He continued, “It probably looks even worse, actually, that there was a kind of willingness to throw Harry under the bus simply to make these things disappear.”

While William and Kate have never responded to the rumors, a source told Us Weekly in 2019 that the speculation motivated them to work on their marriage.

Rumors of William and Hanbury’s affair resurface in March 2024 after Kate posted an Instagram photo without her wedding ring. The post was also the first photo of Kate since her mysterious abdominal surgery in January 2024.

After the post, many fans commented on Kate’s missing wedding ring. “Where’s her wedding ring? William hasn’t been wearing his either 🤔👀” a user commented. One more user commented on how the photo looked AI-generated (more on that later). “But where’s the wedding ring in that fake AI hand? 🧐,” the user wrote.

Along with speculation around her missing wedding ring, Kate was also accused of editing the photo, which featured several errors, such as Louis’ missing fingers. Kate admitted to altering the photo in a tweet at the time.
