I’m not a criminologist, but there are people capable of such things walking around in society. Laws hold them back if they think they will get caught. Some are so confident they just break the law anyway.
Most people only care about appearance and don’t want to be bothered with compassion. The majority of people aren’t too sensitive to function but sensitive enough to participate in relationships . People from large cities accept that human variation Serial killers are not capable of that.

[quote]And after Chris' arrest, reporters quickly unearthed the family's June 2015 bankruptcy filing, which indicated that, with a combined $90,000 income in 2014, they were drowning under monthly $3,000 mortgage payments and $600 car payments, student loans, medical bills and credit card debt and owed $70,000 (not including the mortgage). At the time, Chris had been working at Anadarko for six months with a salary of $61,500 a year, per the filing, and Shanann made $18 an hour answering phones at a children's hospital call center. They had $864 in their joint checking account.

Some people lack a conscience, they are monsters like wild dogs and should be destroyed. This is why abortion is only a minor sin in Hinduism: the unwanted especially turn to evil. My own friend was horribly murdered by rough trade. It was in the gay media at the time, and the guy who did it was extremely violent, crazy and dangerous. I therefore have zero compassion for killers and they should be executed, imo. You can't understand them because you have a conscience and are reasonable and cannot understand the irrationality.

R9 Many people have financial problems. That doesn't make anyone a murderer.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 12, 2024 3:32 PM |
He's a family annihilator. It was not the money problems in and of themselves, but the blow to his ego if he had to admit he failed. Divorce is expensive, child support is expensive, and he would have ended up with Shannan and everyone else blaming him for the outcome.
In his sociopathic mind, killing them solved all his problems. No divorce, no child support, can dump the house he probably never want to begin with and get an insurance settlement to boot. Win-win...IF you lack a conscience.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 12, 2024 3:37 PM |
Will add, these family annihilators are such cowards. They readily themselves into a life they cannot support, but then everyone else has to die for their choices. He could have chosen to never marry, he could have refused to have kids. he could have explained to Shanann that the house was too much, that she needed to get a real job. But it was easier for him to kill them then to make honorable choices with his life.

I read a bunch of Thrive threads on reddit's anti mlm and people had a lot to say about how tweeked out it made them. Chris was never going to get away with this, but old Scooby Nicole made him get caught way too quickly. I don't think he would have gone on the news, etc if his hand hadn't been forced.

Of course not, R29. Did I/R9 somehow imply that was the sole reason? Perhaps you think I approve of Watts' actions because I didn't state unequivocally that I do not? If you that literal with everything in life, perhaps DL is not a good place for you.
Given the circumstances, it's not too far-fetched to assume that Watts wanted to lose the baggage of his old life (wife, kids, yet another kid on the way), and financial worries and start fresh with a new woman.

I read The Perfect Father by John Glatt and the book portrayed his wife as a total ball-busting control freak who completely emasculated him, which explains all the hate she got when this went to trial.
Chris said that night he confessed he was having an affair, he was going to leave her, he would pay child support and she could have the house and kids and he wanted visitation rights. She exploded and said he would never see the kids. He snapped and killed her.
In the book she was so bossy that when he had to catch a flight she wouldn't let him leave until he cleaned up the garage. Add that to his introverted personality and the fact that she called on the shots in the relationship (where he should work, the house they were going to buy, the kids they were going to have, etc.) it was only a matter of time.

I rewatched this video after reading this thread. Someone commented that Watts makes the “Surrender Cobra” at 1:12 as he’s watching his neighbour’s surveillance video on the television. I didn’t know what that meant so I researched it.
“Found at sporting events, surrender cobra is a hands-atop-head pose made by fans when the their team's loss seems all but inevitable.”

I know it's not the same thing but there was a time when I was 15 and I considered killing my entire family. I grew up in an incredibly dysfunctional and stable and abusive home well lots of homes. At this time I was living with my mom and my two younger brothers and sister the two youngest having a whole host of mental issues. My mom was in a particularly bad state drinking heavily and taking antidepressants and generally just entirely insane.
I desperately wanted her to die just so that I could get peace and not having to take care of my siblings or her or the house. I also figured that the kids really didn't have any sort of chance at life because none of them were smart or capable as I was really anything so I kind of felt like it would just be a blessing for them. I also felt like if they did all die but for once the world would be kind to me because I was grieving the death of my entire family. Obviously I didn't murder them in got myself straight in the head mostly.
I feel like that's the type of thinking that goes into these things.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 12, 2024 10:29 PM |
He killed them instead of leaving them because
one - he thought it would be a clean slate for him - no child support, no ex to deal with him
two - he was dumb and really thought he'd get away with it. Honestly, these days any amateur sleuth knows that the husband is the first person you look at. It's very unlikely you get away with it but he took that huge risk.

by Anonymous | reply 56 | March 12, 2024 11:21 PM |
Please, R41. There are a lot of straight men who love to be bossed around by their wives. It gives them something to complain about and makes excuses for things they don’t actually want to do (the wife won’t let me), but also gives them structure. Notice how he didn’t try to leave his family or make any changes until he had a new woman to boss him around. I think she made him take her to some expensive (to him) restaurant and Shannan saw the charges. If money was tight, that would be a red flag. New girl wouldn’t stick around when the family returned so he killed them. If the new bossy chick hadn’t expressed interest he’d still be living there, hopped up on Thrive and deeper on debt.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | March 13, 2024 12:39 AM |
R57 I don't disagree that if he hadn't found a new woman, he'd still be with Shannan and his kids but they had Shannan's phone and there's no evidence that she knew about his new girlfriend or that he was cheating. The most was that she noticed that he was cold and didn't want to touch or kiss her any more. They also had the phones of Watts and his new gf and there was no evidence that the new gf knew what Watts was going to do either.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | March 13, 2024 1:20 AM |
I completely believe that new girlfriend knew all about wifey and kids, but had given him an ultimatum and said he needed to divorce them.
I don't want to believe that she knew about the pregnancy, but let's face it - Shan-nan posted all over social media the every day minutiae of her life. The new girlfriend HAD to have looked up her socials. Everyone does that these days, especially women. The chances are good that she knew about her being preggo too.
I'm not really sure she was involved in any of the murder plans because it was a really stupid plan to begin with. I'm not sure she'd sign on for that hare-brained scheme/plan.

The new bimbo did Google searches about Scott Peterson's girlfriend's book deal. And, yes, new GF must have known that Watts had a pregnant wife.

Or she talks about how Bella wants to be a mommy, how the girls' teen years will be a nightmare, etc. It's just fucking wild that their home turned out to be the most dangerous place they could be. They would have had better odds being dropped off in the Combat Zone at 2 am. What I never understood about this case is why the girlfriend got to walk???? Clearly, she lied repeatedly to cops. I am just shocked they didn’t indict her, and if the case had holes, then bring it to a grand jury. Then again, this is the same state where John Ramsey walked away from a grand jury indictment, though clearly, JR had money and power. I think the state is really wonky with its justice system. Did the girlfriend give bj’s to the coppers?

You DL murderer admirers are slipping.

He wasn't attractive. Then there's the hideous Metallica tattoo, FFS.
There are parents everywhere who just drop out of their kids' lives. Work cash jobs to avoid paying tax and child support. Ignore any attempts made to contact them. Murdering someone, especially your own family members, in such a situation is psychopathic. Murdering your own children and pregnant partner is inconceivable. How do we know she was actually a bitch? Even if she was, he could have just walked out.

He'll forever have a shrine here on DL. I hope he takes some comfort from that.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | May 18, 2024 1:58 PM |
He was extremely weak minded and easily influenced. The socio butch girlfriend convinced him to do it

Oh, come on. Her name is Shanann, for starters.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | May 18, 2024 3:26 PM |
Well, in our defense, R108, he's fat now and no longer attractive. Our hands are tied. You understand.

Without that beard he is HIDEOUS
His mouth his all mangled and shit.
Old Lady Mouth like Tila Tequila.

[quote]she was so bossy that when he had to catch a flight she wouldn't let him leave until he cleaned up the garage
In other words, he was a grown man who didn't have the balls to stand up to her. Seems par for the course, if the comments about the side piece are accurate.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | May 18, 2024 5:48 PM |
R114 He's definitely sexier and more innocent with the facial hair. If he shaves, he did it.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | May 21, 2024 9:03 PM |
I’m too lazy to read the whole thread, but if I remember correctly she was the more assertive one (well, except when he murdered her!) and so it’s possible that he couldn’t imagine going through the endless drama of telling her he wanted to leave.
Actually this reminds me in some ways of Gypsy Rose Blanchard — her mother dominated her life so much, the only way she could conceive of getting away from her was to annihilate her.

"Killed 4 lives" still makes me wonder what this OP is under the Aunt Bea hand-wringing.

He lacked the chutzpah of those two dizzy dykes from a few years ago who drove their RV full of foster kids off a cliff on the Pacific Highway. Female family annihilators tend to be more thoughtful, including your Andreas Yates who think they’re saving their toddlers from the future clutches of Satan.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | May 21, 2024 9:39 PM |
R120- I read a book on them--- Shit- Forgetting the name-- It was EXCELLENT- Those 2 dykes were hardcore fucked up!!!!!!!

[Quote] your Andreas Yates who think they’re saving their toddlers from the future clutches of Satan.
Or so she claimed. One of the most surefire outs for a woman is to claim religious delusion.

The Hart family murders were horrific. Devonte’s body has never been found.

R122 Are you kidding? She was fucking nuts. Dead eyes, lank hair, no affect. That one shrink said she was the sickest person he had ever seen. She was well known for having PPD, and her husband sucked. I believe it.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | May 22, 2024 12:35 AM |
I think he was just over it.

The “sparing the babies from the slings and arrows” is a pretty common reason for crazy women to family-annihilate. Not to conflate art with reality, but it’s basically the whole plot of The Haunting of Hill House.
Horrible sane people like Watts or Scott Peterson or Susan Smith just want to escape their humdrum and will make up a million stories for how their families ended up dead.
If you look at the Andrea Yates story, she was a normal, smart, productive person until she started getting pregnant over and over. She had severe postpartum depression, if not outright psychosis. Her husband kept intentionally impregnating her even after doctors told him she was a danger to herself and the family and that another pregnancy might be the last straw. He was more responsible for what happened to his family than his mentally ill wife.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | May 22, 2024 12:56 AM |
Complete fucking nonsense. If she didn’t want to get pregnant she could have taken a number of different steps, but she didn’t.
She chose to be a mother. Then she didn’t like it so she got rid of the cause.

She had an MLM business didn't she? Of course she was a cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 128 | May 22, 2024 1:18 AM |
Yeah, I don't recall what the name of her MLM job was, but there was inference to the fact the house she "built, on her own" was somewhat shady as well.
None of that really matters in terms of her ultimate demise though...I mean, she wasn't gangster or drug dealer level of shadiness to warrant her (and her children) being killed by a man with a weak chin and obvious issues he needed to deal with in another way besides how he decided to "clean up" his life.

Totally different situation. The two lesbians died along with all of those poor foster children.
Chris Watts wanted to survive and begin life anew with his new girlfriend.
by Anonymous | reply 133 | May 22, 2024 5:18 AM |
Andrea Yates ... I don't think anyone 100% blames her and thinks she's a murderer.
by Anonymous | reply 134 | May 22, 2024 5:21 AM |
Because it was so much more fun his way.

The wife was an insufferable cunt and deserved it but their children didn't. And no, I do NOT find him attractive. I think he is a disgusting child killer. Absolutely repulsive.

Agreed.
He has paid his debt to society by voluntarily relinquishing his freedom, and does not deserve to be persecuted in critical threads like this.

You sound sane.
by Anonymous | reply 139 | May 22, 2024 6:52 AM |
Where is the proof the wife deserved this?
From the link about the those two heinous women. NOBODY should be allowed to adopt or foster kids without strict oversight if a red flag shows. Those poor kids:
Jennifer and Sarah cannot be questioned or stand trial for what happened on that California cliff. The inquest is closed, and their death certificates now list suicide while the children’s list homicide.
What can change now, Mendocino County Sheriff-Coroner Thomas Allman told reporters, is the federal oversight of abuse. Five states were involved with the adoptions and abuse allegations of the children.
“Where are the systematic failures that possibly could have prevented this?” Allman said. “We do not have a national database for child abuse allegations.”
This, Allman said, should be an “enlightening moment” for lawmakers.
