I can understand the coke sniffing, although that's certainly bad too...what I do not get is the opiates, the multi-drug combos (Heath Ledger, Matthew Perry). Don't these people know better?
Why do so many celebrities use dangerous drugs?

Dunno. Ask Judy, Janis, Morrison, Jimi etc etc. Seems it’s a risk of the job

Many celebrities also believe in the wage gap, so they aren't very bright in general and they actually aren't supposed to be!!!! Because dumb people make good propaganda tools. We see it with Chris Evans. Year long cocaine addiction and now he is used as Joe Biden's puppet with his Captain America image! Dumb people take their looks for granted. As they say: dumb fucks great but these attractive celebs also have 10 divorces and 5 bastards on average, despite the fact that condoms and other birth control exists. No wonder that with that low level of intelligence, they also take the hardest drugs.

They're addicts chasing the next big high.

Because drugs are fun moron

Trauma in their Early lives. More trauma in Hollywood.

Boredom. Being prone to addiction. The whole Fentanyl situation should keep more people away.

Because you don't know what it's like to have to get up at 5 o'clock in the morning and sparkle, Neely, sparkle!

They may be famous but they’re just people. That’s why.

Being a famous movie star or singer isn't easy. You spend months filming a movie in another country, living in a trailer or you're contantly flying to different countries to give concerts. You sleep in hotel rooms all the time. A lot of celebrities need drugs to sleep, to calm down, to have more energy or they need painkillers at some point because they fell off the stage during a performance or got hurt during a movie shoot.

Peer pressure, non existent performance enhancement, Carl hart wrote a book called drug use for grown ups that is so elitist it’s pathetic

I try to imagine being a celebrity isolated in a mansion, reluctant to go out and about and be gawked at by everyone. The threat of violence. Not knowing who to trust. Worried about losing it all...
No thanks.

Don't ascribe some higher quality of awareness to celebrities, OP. I implore you.

If you are a dysfunctional person fame and money won't help you.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 8, 2024 7:27 PM |
Rich people do not have people to tell them no.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 8, 2024 7:31 PM |
They told you to seek your fortune in Hollywood and that worked.
They told you to make the movie that would likely get you the award and that worked.
They told you to take some of this, just fuck the guy and don’t think about it too much and that almost worked. So you took more.
They told you to take some of this and you’ll lose the weight and that worked. So you took more.
They told you to get off the drugs. You couldn’t. You were a wreck because you’d started gaining weight and being turned down for parts.

One defining question from my age group (Generation X) is this:
Growing up, if you had a cough, were you told, “the medicine is worthless; it JUST makes you feel better”?
We had a divide of people who distrusted all medication and those who embraced pharmaceutical help for every ailment.
If you were raised in an environment where medicine was readily available and appreciated, you are more likely to try different drugs for aches and pains.

You might ask that question here on DL on a PnP thread? The weekends tend to be a more prime time to ask.
We are an addictive society. Meth, coke which you seem to not have so much a problem with, booze, tobacco, crack, pills of various sorts , uppers , downers, opiates, poppers, opiates, and a few I know doubt left off.
And the reason people get high——it’s feels really really really really good.

Because the beautiful trained monkeys or hamsters on their wheels need some sort of reward for all the stress, ambivalence, pressure to be perfect, beautiful or attractive, fit, in the know… and fulfill all the expectations of their role. We don’t really see them as people and they need their version of Calgon to take them away.

OP, people abuse drugs; celebrities and the not famous. You hear of the celebrities and obviously not about all others. There is no special drug abuse attribute that comes with fame.

drugs rule and if you have a ton of money it's hard to say no. the only reason i stopped doing coke and molly all the time is because i'm poor. the thing no one talks about is how great it actually feels and how much fun you have. that's a big part of not being able to let it go.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 8, 2024 8:10 PM |
also if i was a rich celeb i'd be thinking i'm bulletproof. i'd trust the drugs i get were pure and well sourced. i'd be confident that i can get the best medical treatment etc.

It doesn't surprise me that celebrities would also use drugs.
I think both the burning desire for fame and celebrity and the type of addictive behavior that gets hooked on drugs likely have very highly overlapping psychological and emotional drivers.
