A belated Happy 56th Birthday to Gioachino Rossini!

Born on February 29th 1792 in Pesaro, Italy, this prolific composer gave us stage works that still are preformed to this day. As well as being an epic composer , he was a a renowned gourmand. Champagne, Bordeaux, caviar, and other rich dishes contributed to his rotund profile when he moved to Paris.

Celebrate this food and fun lovin’ guy tonight with a little toast of whatever, or a nightcap if it’s that late for you.

Well I had no idea he was 56. I thought he went to his reward a considerably long time ago.

Figaro’s famous “Largo al factotum” from The Barber of Seville. Figaro here, Figaro there, he’s everywhere!

R5, it’s a reference to leap years.

by Anonymousreply 6March 1, 2024 2:11 AM

They used that trick in The Pirates of Penzance.

by Anonymousreply 7March 1, 2024 2:17 AM

It would be his 58th birthday, going by leap years.

Is that a factotum?

I'm more interested in the gourmet meals he had throughout France rather than his operas. But trudging around with that huge stomach could not have been fun. No gym chain memberships back then. I bet he ate a lot of those crunchy ortolans practically made extinct by himself alone.

OP, no one finds this leap-year shit isn’t amusing.

Find another hobby.

by Anonymousreply 11March 1, 2024 2:27 AM

Well according to another poster he got it wrong in any case. Too lazy myself to figure it out.

Just enjoy the music.

Ticking all the boxes to build a legacy and secure the win.

It is tiresome.

And his physical resemblance to Ellen Degeneres is distraction.

Ellen has been canceled for being a mean dyke, his resemblance to a canceled comedian only reinforces a dislike for Cooper at the subconscious level.

Sorry for the interruption, op
