This is sad. Mentioned him on the Who are the nicest celebrities thread.
Oh, this is sad.
He was a Candid Camera victim as a high school student in 1964.

He had a wrinkly ass, I thought he'd live forever
by Anonymous | reply 2 | February 28, 2024 7:54 PM |
He suffered from sagging ass.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 28, 2024 7:56 PM |
Has he been sick? I remember thinking he looked like death on the last season of Curb (I haven't watched the new season yet)
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 28, 2024 7:57 PM |
R4 He had been suffering from Parkinson's for years.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | February 28, 2024 7:58 PM |
Aww. I was a big fan of Anything But Love and always enjoyed his humor.

thanks r5, I had no idea
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 28, 2024 8:05 PM |
He died from a heart attack.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | February 28, 2024 8:08 PM |
aw, that's sad.
Never a big fan but he always seemed to be a hard worker, sounds like he was a nice guy.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | February 28, 2024 8:11 PM |
Maybe, R5, but, per the Variety obit, he just announced the diagnosis last April.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | February 28, 2024 8:13 PM |
What do you expect me to do?? I thought he was already dead!
by Anonymous | reply 11 | February 28, 2024 8:13 PM |
I always enjoyed his performances, and he seemed like a nice person. Condolences to his loved ones.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Lewis.

Poor Jame Lee Custis. She is going to be crushed.
They had the best chemistry on Anything But Love

[quote] Whore Jamie Lee Curtis. She is going to make this all about her.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | February 28, 2024 8:33 PM |
If there's anyone to be pitied in this world today, it is Jamie Lee.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | February 28, 2024 8:36 PM |
Damn. I didn’t realize he was that old.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | February 28, 2024 8:39 PM |
As a Curb Your Enthusiasm fan from the very beginning - and this season (the final one) is much better than the last one - I'm sad to hear this.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | February 28, 2024 8:41 PM |
I saw him in concert years ago when a friend of mine (female) had a mad crush on him and was excited about seeing him live. I was like 'meh' but he was actually very funny.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | February 28, 2024 8:50 PM |
Poor Larry. First Funkhauser and now Richard.
Richard Lewis and Larry David met at a summer sports camp when they were 12 years old. Lewis described David as "cocky" and "arrogant" and said they were "arch rivals" when they played baseball. Lewis said he "disliked him intensely" and couldn't wait for the camp to end

Online tabloids have been careless in their reporting on his Parkinson's. In 2023 he revealed he was diagnosed two years prior and said his symptoms were mild and medication-responsive. Unfortunately, he had other health issues to contend with.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | February 28, 2024 8:53 PM |
Oh no. I always enjoyed him. I first knew him from back when he'd do manic appearances on Letterman. I don't think I ever saw a full comedy special by him, and just remember him from a lot of appearances in various TV shows and talk shows and a few films. Great on Curb. RIP.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | February 28, 2024 8:54 PM |
And Keanu still walks among us...
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 28, 2024 8:54 PM |
His autobiography was interesting. It covers his friendship with Lenny Bruce, his love of Last Tango in Paris, bouts of anorexia and depression. I didn't like his onstage / standup persona - itchy and neurotic. I thought his delivery was too Woody Allen-ish but I loved his material. RIP, Richard.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 28, 2024 8:54 PM |
I remember him from the Johnny Carson show in the 80s, and then he did his own HBO specials in the 80s. I think he moved to sitcoms in the 90s (when stand up comics like Roseanne and Seinfeld made the leap) and did a sort-of-funny comedy with Don Rickles.

Curb Your Enthusiasm star and creator Larry David paid tribute to his co-star in a statement shared by HBO.
'Richard and I were born three days apart in the same hospital and for most of my life he’s been like a brother to me,' David said in the statement, according to Variety.
'He had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest. But today he made me sob and for that I’ll never forgive him.'
David had recently alluded to Richard's health struggles, saying he was sad his 'pal, my great friend' could not be at the season 10 premiere of the hit show, earlier this year on January 31.
Richard then confirmed he wasn’t up to making it there in a tweet that same night, writing: 'I sure wish I was up to making the premiere. I would’ve loved to have shared all the love in the room with my wife. @HBO and LD made a dream come true for countless dreamers.'
In what would be his final post on X, Richard was full of praise for the show, saying: 'What a night! I loved Episode 3 of #curbyourenthusiasm'. The tweet was posted on February 18.
Lewis was born three days earlier than David, the creator of Curb Your Enthusiasm. They were born in the same city - Brooklyn - and year - 1947.

I don’t care what anyone says, I absolutely loved the movie “Once Upon a Crime” as a kid. I’d watch it whenever it was on and I would die laughing.
Very sad news he’s gone.

I loved his line about his parents going into a cobalt-lined vault to have sex and yelling "Gin" when they had orgasms so the kids wouldn't know what was going on.
Gin was a card game, BTW.

Well he did keep a lot of hair even at the end, although it was white.

I first heard of Richard Lewis for this 1979 TV movie that aired during a Saturday Night Live time back in 1979.

I thought that he was already dead. I loved his face when he was telling jokes - so deadpan.
R35, why those two, are they sick?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | February 28, 2024 10:16 PM |
I'm sorry he had such problems with substance abuse--as a result he looked prematurely aged in the 90s and 00s.

JLC’s post was nice.

eric clapton is my guess for next celeb death.
Ozzy Osborne too.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | February 28, 2024 11:06 PM |
That's too bad. I just watched the new Curb where Richard and Larry start screaming at each other about leaving each other something in their wills. You could tell Lewis was so sick he had to just ride in the golf cart.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | February 28, 2024 11:25 PM |
Yeah, last Sunday's Curb had a long sequence where Larry and Richard argued over who would die first.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | February 28, 2024 11:34 PM |
I liked his delivery of a line in Curb Your Enthusiasm. He blurts out to Larry David “You look like Einstein’s gardener for God’s sakes!”
He also has a very funny and mean exchange with Tracey Ullman’s character Irma Kostrosky. “No! YOU be quiet!” “Where’d you buy that outfit? A substitute teacher designer warehouse sale?”
by Anonymous | reply 45 | February 28, 2024 11:35 PM |
Larry David being sentimental hits me hard. I loved their scenes together in epi 3. He lived a good life.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | February 29, 2024 1:53 AM |
His comedy routines were darker and more complex than other depressed comedians.
Don’t know if it was part of the act, but I remember he’d haul out a fist full of paper scraps and refer to them during his set.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | February 29, 2024 3:27 AM |
I just always felt indifferent to him. Meh. But I'm sorry he was ill. My mother had Parkinson's for thirty years. It sucks. At least he didn't suffer that long.

I remembered liking the show he did with JLC and found a couple of episodes on YouTube. The first season episode I found was a charming 80s time capsule. The later season episode I found was much broader, but he was likable. Both seemed affected, him by his neurotic persona and her by how cute she thought she was, but it was pleasant. Many of the jokes held up pretty well.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | February 29, 2024 1:33 PM |
After liking him in CYE I sought out his comedy specials but found them just meh. Also was disappointed in Anything But. It's funny how some comics can be more appealing when playing a public version of themselves.

Just finished watching his first episode of the new Curb season. As he was never shown in movement, he was definitely giving post-stroke, Floyd the barber vibes.
