Oscars 2024: The infamous 2009 format for the acting categories will be brought back 15 years later
In 2009 the Academy decided to try a new format for the acting categories, where 5 previous winners in that category introduce each of the 5 nominees for that night and announce the winner together. This format was first used in 2009 and was last used in 2009.
Well, 15 years later the format is born again! 5 previous winners in their designated category will introduce and announce the new winner together.
I loved this format and never understood why it was never used again.

Celebs don't like sharing their spotlight. Anything more than two at a time giving out the award up there takes too much attention away from them. They immediately go into peacocking mode, just look at Anne trying to outshine Nicole with her dress in your photo.

R1 ummm no. It’s because of time restraints.

I remember in 2010 they changed it up, and instead of having 5 previous Best Lead Actress winners announce the new winner together like they did in 2009, they had actors who knew one of the 5 nominees well or worked with them before announce together. It wasn’t as good and then they did away with it and went back to the tradition of having the previous years 4 winners announce.

R1 that is Marion Cotillard dear. Anne won her Oscar a few years after 2009 and she won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar. She wouldn’t be announcing in the Best Lead Actress group.

I wouldn't want them to do it every year, because we'd probably end up with people like Nicole Kidman presenting Best Actress at almost every ceremony, but doing it every decade or so would be a nice change from their standard format.
Plus, it'll take the spotlight away from last year's truly awful set of winners. Does anyone want to see Brendan Fraser, Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan or Jamie Lee Curtis up there again? We've had enough of your sob stories. Let's get back to recognizing talent.

Probably because it's fucking HARD to find five former winners who are willing to attend the broadcast, and be on-stage together to present the award.
Finding one celeb willing to do it, is hard enough. Much less five celebs who are also previous winners.
It sounds like something they could reasonably do every 10 or 20 years.

No one needs five people on stage at once. Dumb idea.

I remember being pissed when they did this presentation in 2009, because I really wanted to see 2007 Supporting Actor winner Javier Bardem ("No Country for Old Men") present the 2008 Supporting Actress Oscar to his wife Penelope Cruz ("Vicki Cristina Barcelona"). 😂

Imagine if they had done this with Crawford, Davis, de Havilland, Fontaine and Viv Leigh on stage together!
Now imagine them presenting it to Hayward!
