It's a bit surprising how Dakota Fanning turned out. When she was the great child actress in the early 2000s, you would have assumed she'd either have a boatload of Oscars by now, or that her story would end with tabloid infamy and rehab stints.

Instead, she's just doing... fine, I guess. Elle definitely has surpassed her, and it's no longer even close.

If the wonderful show The Great were still going, it would have been so fun to have seen Dakota guest as a relative (sister?) of Elle's Catherine.

Good for her. Can't wait to watch her in Ripley on Netflix.

Her sister is definitely the pretty one.

I prefer Dakota to Elle as an actress. I remember seeing Elle in "The Neon Demon" and thinking the entire time that she spoke like someone with brain damage.

She could play Bette Davis in a biopic.

I'm probably in the minority, but I think Dakota is prettier than Elle. I find Elle strange looking, and not in a good way.

Dakota Fanning was in Man On Fire so I'll always respect her more as an actor than Elle.

Dakota, for whatever reason, is not.

Oh my God, I didn't realize how tall Elle was until that pic at r14 (not that i've ever paid much attention to her). She towers over Dakota. Do they have different fathers? It's odd to see such a height difference between sisters that have the same parents.

R18 they have the same parents, though both girls take after their father much more than their mother (though I see a bit more of their mom in Dakota than I do in Elle).

I remember when these photos of Dakota with her dad went viral a few years back because people thought he was so hot. He is a very good looking man, and yes, Elle takes after him a LOT. Their mom is rather plain looking. I agree that Dakota got the best of both parents’ features.

R18 Elle is 5’9” according to Google, so she’s pushing 6 feet in heels. Dakota is an average 5’4”.

5 inches difference in height between sisters is considerable...I don't think I've seen that kind of height difference before between two female siblings, unless they have a different parent. That said, you can see a lot of the father is Elle, but definitely pick up Dad DNA in Dakota as well.
