Korean spas for men

Who here has been to one?

There are a ton in Los Angeles, and I'm thinking there are a few others in large American cities?

Segregated by men or women, mandatory nudity. I love the hot, warm, and cold pools. The steam rooms and the saunas are nice as well. It's also nice to be around other naked men, even though I don't consider these 'cruisy' places. More like 'blue balls' spas if that's what you're going for.

Probably the closest experience you can get to an [italic]onsen[/italic] in the States. Koreans tend to do luxury well.

I wear a Korean wig, which always makes my head feel like it's in a sauna. Will that do?

R1, depends. Is it ratty?

by Anonymousreply 4February 22, 2024 4:31 AM

I'd like to but there are none in my area.

by Anonymousreply 5February 22, 2024 4:35 AM

The scrub-downs look like a nice pampering.

by Anonymousreply 6February 22, 2024 4:45 AM

I've been to Crystal, Wi, Aroma, and Olympic, and I like Crystal the best.

by Anonymousreply 7February 22, 2024 4:48 AM

Does BTS go?

by Anonymousreply 8February 22, 2024 5:13 AM

The first time I went to one, I was scared that I'd stand out like a hairy beast (Eyetalian descent here) amongst a sea of smooth skin. It turns out that all types of men go to these places (C-suite execs, old Korean men, eldergay trolls all mingle as one).

by Anonymousreply 9February 22, 2024 5:37 AM

What's the creepy looking shit on the ceiling? It looks like it's been colonized by barnacles or some sort of fungi.

by Anonymousreply 10February 22, 2024 5:42 AM

R10, it's probably one of the 'themed' sauna rooms, i.e. 'the salt room' or the 'jade room.' The ceiling is probably meant to resemble salt crystals?

by Anonymousreply 11February 22, 2024 5:48 AM

R3 Steve Yeun is hot

by Anonymousreply 12February 22, 2024 6:26 AM

LA has more of these than anywhere. Atlanta, Chicago, NY-NJ and the DC area also have a few of them. King Spa outside Chicago, which I recently visited, was pretty nice.
The scrub-downs look like a nice pampering.

If you have never had a body scrub, you are missing out on one of the great pleasures in life, although some people might be just too shy to get one. Depending on the spa, the scrub might be done in a separate room, or just an open area right next to the showers. The client lies on the scrub table where he is covered with soapy, warm water. Then, the scrubber, using special exfoliating gloves, proceeds to scrape the dead skin off the body. Some might find it too rough, but I love it. For the inhibited, the scrubber does all parts of the body, including around the hole and the genitals ( although that is usually done with a bath -type sponge or loofah. If you get hard ( which I have done), it's no problem, although, if the scrub area is in full view of the shower room, you in your glory might be seen by those going to or coming from the shower.

The great thing about the spa is the complete freedom of walking around totally naked with other men who are just as bare; it's very freeing. The only problem comes with the patrons who insist on wearing a towel, ashamed of their bodies. It's supposed to be a freeing experience and one of cleanliness. So, the best spas are those who give out very small towels that you can't get around your waist.

If you haven't gone to one, then, by all means, go. You will feel refreshed and your skin will be very smooth.

This scrubber makes $200,000 per year. It's too bad Steve had to wear a towel for this scrub; he would be naked if not on film.

Wonder if Conan's camera guys in R3 were also naked.

by Anonymousreply 16February 22, 2024 1:10 PM

Neither of these two was really naked, as you can see flesh-colored briefs on Steven at one point.

The guy looks like he would have a nice body.

Indoor spas and pools are so disgusting to me. The muggy moist air contributes to a petri dish environment.

by Anonymousreply 19February 22, 2024 2:28 PM

there is a reasonable one in a strip mall in North East that I've gone too. the scrub is honestly quite nice. I like being in a male only environment

Chung Dam Spa is the name

You obviously are ignorant as to the entire idea of the Korean spa and its origins, otherwise you would not have made such a tellingly silly remark.

by Anonymousreply 25February 22, 2024 4:22 PM

bump

by Anonymousreply 26February 22, 2024 11:01 PM

I only like the cruisy ones. Everyone knows the two in Los Angeles. The one is practicly a bathhouse. Yes I'm a whore darling.

by Anonymousreply 27May 23, 2025 12:23 PM
LA has more of these than anywhere. Atlanta, Chicago, NY-NJ and the DC area also have a few of them. King Spa outside Chicago, which I recently visited, was pretty nice.

LA has the largest Korean population outside of the Korean peninsula, so that seems appropriate.

by Anonymousreply 28May 23, 2025 1:16 PM

I’ve been to the one at the Four Seasons Seoul. I was the only non-Korean. The spa was amazing—loved the experience. No towel dancing permitted.

by Anonymousreply 29May 23, 2025 1:43 PM

A friend had his birthday party at one. Now, I'm not a hang-out-naked person, so that was a bit of an obstacle, but I got over it quickly enough.

Basically, it's just a dozen ways to be hot, plus one to be freezing. Never had the urge to go back.

by Anonymousreply 30May 23, 2025 1:51 PM

Is a Korean spa like a Korean barbecue?

by Anonymousreply 31May 23, 2025 1:54 PM

by Anonymousreply 35May 24, 2025 6:53 AM

Are these a thing outside of LA?

I didn't even know that any other city even had a significant population percentage of Koreans, well outside of possibly NY and SF.

by Anonymousreply 36May 25, 2025 4:49 AM

We have plenty of Koreans and Korean spas in Seattle, r36.

by Anonymousreply 37May 25, 2025 5:30 AM

Has anyone ever seen a celebrity completely nude at one of these?

by Anonymousreply 38May 25, 2025 5:52 AM

There are a couple of Korean spas in San Diego.

by Anonymousreply 39May 25, 2025 6:42 AM

There are quite a few Koreans in Seoul, R36.

by Anonymousreply 40May 25, 2025 7:48 AM

R40, but not as many as Pyongyang.

by Anonymousreply 41May 25, 2025 9:12 AM

Very true but I figured that Seoul would be enough of a stretch for OP without throwing Pyongyang into the mix.

by Anonymousreply 42May 25, 2025 11:10 AM

Spa Castle out on College Point in Queens is the big one here in NYC metro. I’ve been a dozen times. It’s one of my favorite ways to spend a chilly winter Sunday.

They tried opening a midtown NYC location but it had issues and was shut down by the Health Department.

by Anonymousreply 43May 25, 2025 11:19 AM

Do guys ever get hard in those spas?

by Anonymousreply 44May 25, 2025 7:53 PM

I have, R44. Many times.

by Anonymousreply 45May 25, 2025 11:40 PM

R44 I can only speak to Spa Castle in NYC… you do see some semi erections here and there in the all nude men’s area, but it is also an all ages place and the same area has (mostly Korean) little children present and running around butt naked quite a % of the time on weekends. And clearly they’ve had some issues with this clash of cultures (men seeking sex with men vs straight guys and dads there with little boys) because the past 15 years have seen increasingly strong anti-sexual-activity language posted on signs.

by Anonymousreply 46May 25, 2025 11:47 PM

LOVE all men spaces

by Anonymousreply 47May 26, 2025 1:15 AM

Men together are supposed to jack off and suck cock at the sauna. Ban the kids. Straight men participate or STFU and move along. You ruin the mood.

by Anonymousreply 48May 26, 2025 2:25 AM

I could look at penises all day.

Now if they would only let me touch them.

by Anonymousreply 49May 26, 2025 6:01 AM

Curious... are Koreans cut or uncut? And if you're a large, hairy, cut European/American guy... do you feel out of place when visiting the spa?

by Anonymousreply 50May 26, 2025 10:14 AM

Wi Spa is seriously gay — tons of cruising going on. Bonus: the restaurant’s actually fantastic.

by Anonymousreply 54May 26, 2025 10:51 AM
Curious... are Koreans cut or uncut?

The vast majority of Koreans are cut, but the clientele at the spas is decidedly non-Korean.

by Anonymousreply 55May 26, 2025 1:47 PM

R20. I was at Chung Dam a few years ago. The clientele was mostly gay men who were surreptitiously cruising. The staff took pains to monitor things. The steam room, the most private place, was SO hot that you couldn't stay there for more than a minute or two.... Interesting, all in all, not worth my effort to get there. Might give it a try again.

by Anonymousreply 56May 26, 2025 2:04 PM

I have a friend who has been 86ed from the K Spa in Torrance for naughty antics in the steam room. But that's decidedly a more family-ish one. And he's a cardiologist iRL. What a dirty whore!!!

by Anonymousreply 57May 26, 2025 5:29 PM

The whole idea of bringing children to a spa is weird to me.

by Anonymousreply 58May 26, 2025 5:44 PM

R58, isn't it Japan where families bathe together?

by Anonymousreply 59May 26, 2025 7:09 PM

Yes, R59 - I ski in Japan and always hit the onset at the end of the skiing day. Onsen are segregated by sex but children of either sex are allowed - I’m not sure what the cut-off is.

My first time in an onsen there was a young guy and his young daughter - probably 5 or 6 - joking around as they ditched their clothes and headed downstairs to the baths. Completely comfortable and natural.

Onsen are very non-sexual so while it seemed weird the first time - to me - it wasn’t after that first time.

For a very conservative society in many ways Japanese are completely relaxed around nudity.

by Anonymousreply 60May 27, 2025 12:12 AM

I love onsen and public baths (sento). When I lived in Japan, I went to the public bath every day. In some rural areas you can find mixed-sex baths (konyoku onsen). The only people who use them are dirty old men.

The onsen mark upside down ♨️in Korea means that the bath provides sex. I found that out the hard way.

by Anonymousreply 61May 27, 2025 12:17 AM

Ooh I never knew that (upside down onsen mark) R61!

DL is so handy at times.

by Anonymousreply 62May 27, 2025 12:23 AM

There is nothing like the feeling of getting back to the lodge after a day skiing in hip-deep J-pow, taking off the ski boots and all the other layers then soaking my aching body in a hot magnesium tub outside while the snow continues to fall. The sake helps too, of course!

by Anonymousreply 63May 27, 2025 12:27 AM
For a very conservative society in many ways Japanese are completely relaxed around nudity.

Then why do they pixellate the genitalia in porn?

by Anonymousreply 64May 27, 2025 12:44 AM

R64, the Japanese. They just do things a little differently...

by Anonymousreply 65May 27, 2025 12:50 AM

Japan is like the US in that it's depraved in some ways and deeply conservative in others. Overall, there is a greater tolerance for violence against women and children compared to the US. You don't see that if you're a casual visitor.

by Anonymousreply 66May 27, 2025 12:51 AM

R64 if the pixelation bothers you that much just squint your eyes and move closer to the screen.

Or visit Japan and see for yourself, but for that you’ll need a passport and airfare. And an open mind.

by Anonymousreply 67May 27, 2025 12:54 AM

Speaking of pixelated porn, does anyone remember trying to watch the adult film channels scrambled videos?

by Anonymousreply 68May 27, 2025 12:57 AM

r67 I didn't say it bothered me, I asked why they do it if, as you said they "are completely relaxed around nudity."

by Anonymousreply 69May 27, 2025 1:01 AM

R51, isn't Olympic Spa the completely homosexualized one?

by Anonymousreply 70May 27, 2025 1:02 AM

There you go, R69 - you caught me out! Feel better now?

by Anonymousreply 71May 27, 2025 1:09 AM

R67, R69, take it to the Korean spa, you two.

by Anonymousreply 72May 27, 2025 1:11 AM

R70 no that’s Century.

by Anonymousreply 73May 27, 2025 1:16 AM

I really enjoyed the bathing culture in Japan and Iceland, especially the geothermal pools. The experience is very relaxing, rejuvenating and one often gets a sense of well being or euphoria.

The video at R75 has got to be illegal, there's no way all those guys would have given their consent. But it's fascinating. No one has a lick of chest hair.

Not many fat guys either and they're mostly pretty young.

by Anonymousreply 76May 27, 2025 4:49 AM

R76, illegal where? Korea? There are no laws there!

by Anonymousreply 77May 27, 2025 4:55 AM

No one has a lick of chest hair because they’re Korean, R76. You don’t get out much, do you?

by Anonymousreply 78May 27, 2025 10:09 AM

Something that I did find curious from many onsen sessions is that Japanese men almost always retract their foreskins at the onsen. Japanese men on the whole are not routinely circumcised at birth.

by Anonymousreply 79May 27, 2025 10:11 AM

So all their smegma is floating around. Great.
