Tell us about the most immoral boss you ever worker for?

For me it was probably Ian Schrager of Studio 54 fame back when i was a manager of his Paramount Hotel on 46th St in Times Square and he lived on the top floor.

Whenever he saw a bike locked up to a pole in front of the hotel, he'd clip the lock so that it would most likely get stolen. For him, it was an aesthetics issue, he didn't like the look of any bike parked in front of his hotel.

He also missed the payroll for the whole staff one week. In all my years in the hospitality business and in other jobs Ive never seen anything like that. Employees living paycheck to paycheck started crying that they wouldn:t be able to even eat that night, some didn't even have subway fare to get back home .

He never addressed staff about it and of course never apologized. We learned from a blurb in the media he wanted to bump up his bank balances to help his chances of obtaining a sizable loan he was hoping to get so he could purchase another hotel.

He'd sometimes call down to me at night to find out how much revenue the hotel had ade that day without the slightest care or interest in any other aspect of the hotel's operations.

He obviously never learned any humility from the time he served in prison.

I stayed at the Paramount once on a business trip. Hooked up with a cute young guy across the 'courtyard' one mornimg , his window looked directly at mine and I noticed he seemed to be lurking in his underwear so I nonchalantly displayed my boner and when he didn't turn away I signalled my room number, and he was over in a flash.

Oh dear

by Anonymousreply 2February 15, 2024 12:50 AM

R1, how did you signal your room number?

by Anonymousreply 3February 15, 2024 12:53 AM

The Paramount in NYC doesn't have a courtyard R1.

by Anonymousreply 4February 15, 2024 12:58 AM

I know, r4, I just don't know the correct term for that big 'void space' in the middle of the building.

by Anonymousreply 5February 15, 2024 1:01 AM

[R3] Smoke signals , Rose!

by Anonymousreply 6February 15, 2024 1:02 AM

Signalled my room number on a piece of paper I think, or maybe using my fingers, can't remember, but probably piece of paper

by Anonymousreply 7February 15, 2024 1:03 AM

How many guys have you fucked that you can't remember, R7? Does this happen often?

by Anonymousreply 8February 15, 2024 1:17 AM

R8’s jealously is off the charts… and here’s r7 signaling concern, like he did his room number across the “courtyard” all those years ago…

I stayed there also many years back. Still remember the mirrors around the urinals placed so that you could check out the junk of the guy peeing next to you without moving your head and appearing obvious. I thought only a gay man could've designed this. I heard that Schrager was a jerk also and quite disliked. The hotel room was very odd but hip for the time and very very small even by NY standards.

I was working for a small start-up at the start of my career.

The female owner to confide (too much) in me. She’d been dating a rich guy. Meanwhile, our business wasn’t going so well. She needed cash so lied to the guy that he’d given her an STD and she needed thousands for a procedure to eradicate it (he paid up).

Eventually, she stopped paying us all. In the midst of this, her highest-paid employee suddenly dropped dead. Her first question: “Do you think his family will find out I haven’t been paying him and come after me for the money?” She tried to get away with it.

When I eventually took a job with another firm on our floor (because she wasn’t paying me and had told me the business was going to shut down), she sabotaged my new job with lies so egregious that the boss who’d hired me accused me of all manner of perfidy and retracted the offer.

This terrible owner later ran for Congress as a Republican.

R11, I fucking hate that I read your entire post that ended without you giving the name. Asshole.

by Anonymousreply 12February 15, 2024 1:57 AM

You wouldn’t know her. A woman of color in tech.

Sadly, well-intentioned people kept entrusting her with seed money to start new ventures and she was screwing them. She once won an Entrepreneur of the Year thingee based on smoke and mirrors.

I made her sign a termination agreement I drew up saying she owed me two months pay when she fired me for accepting another job. ???.

We went to court and a jury of our peers let her off the hook. She was skilled at turning on the charm. She didn’t deny she signed it but spun a web of lies.

Two too many, OP.

Boss said I was fired for theft. Then proceeded to keep accusing all his following employees of theft. He’s famous for skimming off entire operating budgets.

by Anonymousreply 15February 16, 2024 5:34 AM

Actually it was my last one, last year. He would often show-up late to work or leave early, and I suspected he was hooking up with people. It's that window of time away from wifey when you can do that stuff.

Once when I was working on the weekend alone he dropped by on his motorcycle, even though he lives about 30 mi. from work. As we chatted he kept touching his crotch. I pretended not to notice and he eventually left.

by Anonymousreply 16February 16, 2024 7:30 AM

R1 did you have your boner out for your admirer?

by Anonymousreply 17February 16, 2024 11:57 AM

My boss was a crazy bitch, the birds were pooping on her patio, so she soaked birdseed in something and it killed a bunch of birds, they still shit on her patio, probably illegal.

by Anonymousreply 18February 16, 2024 3:54 PM

Ian Schrager still doesn't pay his bills.

by Anonymousreply 19February 16, 2024 5:18 PM

A bundler for Bob Dole (of all people!) when he ran for President in 1996. His employees, of which I was no longer one, were used to disguise campaign contributions.

In addition to being an all-around sleazebag, he was stupid enough to think that Dole would win. It cost him a total of six million dollars in fines, then the largest fine of its kind in US history.

He got only six months of home confinement, though. Not enough.

Muammar Gaddafi

[quote] some didn't even have subway fare to get back home .

this seems impossible to believe. When he did pay them, did he pay them in cash? Otherwise this makes no sense at all.

I was working for an office temp agency. They sent me to work for this guy who was supposedly raising money for retired vets or injured cops or something like that.

The office was totally disorganized and I didn’t have any idea of what I was supposed to do.

Also, my gut told me this was a scam and that the money was just going to this guy, not vets and injured cops.

I worked a full day then told the temp agency I wasn’t going back. Surprisingly, the agency was okay with me not going back. They did pay me and offer me other jobs.

I had a boss who would have a friend on staff clock her in and out for a 40 hour week. Sometimes she wouldn't show up for days and if she did she would come in late, stay for a few hours, and leave.

Her supervisor was a friend so she got away with it until the supervisor was fired by the owner, and the new one was watching my boss like a hawk and noticed she wasn't at work even though she was clocked in. Anyway, my boss and her friend were both fired.
