He has criticism I've seen several times over, that the main trio has wonderful chemistry as themselves in interviews but aren't given the proper writing and direction within the show for their chemistry to be fully utilized. We harp on Heartstopper's writing sometimes but I'm grateful that's not the case with Joe and Kit. The writing can certainly improve and let them work with even more material, which I have hopes for in S3 especially after Joe's comments today. But it's not like they didn't get to show off their chemistry in S1 and S2. If anything, their chemistry balloons past the constraints of the writing.

As an aside, this reviewer might like Recipe for Love whenever it comes out because he showed fondness for Maia in his videos on Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin and Do Revenge.

I should give the massive caveat that this is not shade to Tobie at all, it’s just a compliment to Joe and Kit. But while I genuinely like all of the side cast, including Tobie, I actually think they’re a somewhat interesting position because pretty often, the lead actors in the show or maybe the hottest or the biggest rules or whatever, but aren’t necessarily charismatic or likable in interviews, are standoffish with fans, shit like that. Meanwhile, the supporting actors are more fun, show personality in interviews, seem loyal to the fan base and the show, interact more with fans stuff like that. So they get a pretty robust fanbase too.

But for heartstopper, Joe and Kit are both incredibly charismatic and likable, show that in interviews, are still sweet to the fans, and understandably and correctly Tobie and the others have I think a lot of integrity and don’t just go to every single fan convention to milk fame and get more fans. So there’s not that contrast of somewhat detached leads and eager supporting actors; they’re all pretty invested and very likable which means Kit and Joe do get a higher percentage of attention. And then Will through music and Yaz through fashion have incredibly strong niches of their own.
