What the fuck did she do for that to occur? Martin Short reportedly had a horrible run-in with her on a flight as well.
Lucille Ball was banned from two airlines for being rude?

It was merely tension caused by caffeinated coffee, what Ms. Ball surely needed was the relaxing flavah of High Point.

Lucy couldn't go three minutes without a Pall Mall. She became a raving bitch when she couldn't light up during take-off.

She was kicked off for smoking a Cuban.
Not the cigar.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | February 3, 2024 10:52 AM |
She peed all over the seats after getting shitfaced drunk!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | February 3, 2024 11:11 AM |
She was known to disguise things as a swaddled baby when she was over her carry-on baggage limit.

And they say celebrities don’t need to buy their own planes. When you’re the owner AND the cargo, you do what you want and the crew zips their lips and takes it.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | February 3, 2024 11:36 AM |
She wasn’t drunk, she was spooning her way to health!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | February 3, 2024 11:56 AM |
She was going to behave appropriately, but Gary talked her out of it.

Her impromptu mid-flight song and dance with Carol Burnett wasn’t nearly as ell received as it was on TV.

OP, I heard it had something to do with pulling the emergency brake at hilariously inappropriate times.

Martin Short is no walk in the park himself. Talk about a nightmare at 30,000 feet!

The story of Lucy throwing a cup of coffee at a flight attendant is legend here.
I've always wondered if that one was actually true. Lucy drank a lot and we know she was pretty flinty in real life.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | February 3, 2024 12:41 PM |
She challenged the pilot to a game of Backgammon.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | February 3, 2024 12:57 PM |
No no no, she wore blue jeans on the plane, and everyone knows you can't wear blue jeans on a plane.

When they wouldn’t serve her another glass of wine, she started stomping grapes in the aisle.

We O’Neill was just talking about meeting Lucy after she had been banned from two airlines. He said that she was very nice but very gruff.

Her nose kept burning and setting off the smoke alarm.

Because, while taxiing, she rear-ended another, older jet. She got into the now first plane and drove them both to a body shop. On the way home, the newer jet came loose and passed her while riding downhill. Lucy stopped and the plane couldn’t quite get to the top of the next hill before IT crashed into the front of the older jet. It was a nightmare. But at least she was insured.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | February 4, 2024 12:49 AM |
Because, when full of Vitameatavegamin and blotto, she confused herself with a pilot and tried to fly the plane!

My cousin was a flight attendant (called in those days a "stewardess") in the early 1970s. She said one of her roommates had once served Lucille Ball and her secretary in First Class, and asked Ball a question along the lines of "Coffee or tea, Miss Ball?" Ball looked to her secretary, who said witheringly to the stewardess, "You will have to address your question to me. Miss Ball does not speak directly to peasants."

That never happened, R21. She was a battles but would never have stood for that shit.

She was a miserable woman
by Anonymous | reply 25 | February 4, 2024 1:07 AM |
She could be a world renowned bitch. I've read horror stories about the way she treated people. The funniest one was a set-to that happened between her and Vivian Vance on the set of "Lucy", and keep in mind Vivian was her dearest friend. They were ready to shoot a scene and Viv wasn't on her mark quick enough to suit Lucille and she growled at her "you're late". Vivian responded "I would tell you to go fuck yourself, but Desi already did". LOL
by Anonymous | reply 26 | February 4, 2024 1:11 AM |
Yeah, I don't believe she said "peasants," either.

She would sent back copies of The Lucy Show scripts to Garry Marshall with “this is fucking shit” written on it. She said that The Lucy Show is where she earned her surname. She terrorized the actress who played her daughter on that show and got into a screaming match with Joan Blondell in front of the audience. The actress who played her daughter claimed inappropriate behavior of a sexual nature claiming Lucy made disgusting sexual remarks to her.

Two airlines for rude behavior, and one network for being television raitings poison!

R29 Where has Candy Moore ever spoken about sexual harassment at Lucy’s hands???
by Anonymous | reply 32 | February 4, 2024 6:59 AM |
R32, she hasn’t been heard from in decades. This has been written about extensively. She wanted out of the show.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | February 4, 2024 7:23 AM |
Viv was fired from The Lucy Show because she not only wanted more money, she wanted to direct.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | February 4, 2024 7:24 AM |
It seems clear that Ms. Ball should have called up her experiences and would have acted differently in these circumstances.

[quote] Viv was fired from The Lucy Show because she not only wanted more money, she wanted to direct.
She was not fired. She left the show voluntarily only partially because of money and script input. The main reason she left was because she & her husband were living in Connecticut and the commute had become too much for her. They returned to live in California in 1974. She did return to the show sporadically till the end however.
Viv and Lucille may have had their arguments over the years, but they were always as close as sisters and Lucille would have cut the throat of anyone suggesting they fire Vivian. Desi was still running part of Desilu before Lucille bought him out, and she had the final say on everything.

R33 Where has this been written about? The only extensive interview I’ve seen with Moore was in “The Lucy Book”. She mentioned not liking her character much, thinking Chris was plastic (she was), but was grateful to be on the series. She felt the scripts declined in season 3 and seemed upset to be written off so abruptly.
Again, in what sources does she describe abuse?

Candy Moore released an album and did a sitcom pilot with Margaret Hamilton.

I've always loved this story about Tallulah Bankhead guesting on Lucy's show. Drove the whole cast and crew crazy because she wouldn't rehearse and everyone thought the night they were to film the show would be a disaster, but La Bankhead came through with flying colors, shocking them all. LOL
[quote] Tallulah Bankhead proved to be one of the most difficult guest stars the show ever dealt with. Though specific details vary, all accounts claim Bankhead hated rehearsing, which caused tension with "rehearsaholic" Lucille Ball. Any attempts Ball made to direct Bankhead were met with blowups, and at one point Bankhead actually stripped in front of the cast and crew while backstage. Her pitch-perfect performance on filming night caught everyone off guard, especially Ball, who was so unnerved that she had to retake a few scenes (a true rarity). It was later discovered that Bankhead had a reputation for acting up during rehearsals in order to throw other cast members off balance come shooting, thus giving her the upper hand. It is said that her "mopping the floor" with the regulars changed Ball's tactic of dealing with guest stars, and has been offered as explanation for her far stricter treatment of guests on her subsequent sitcoms
