DL, I need hotel advice
I checked into a Hilton a couple of hours ago. After a quick dinner, I went to take a shower. No hot water, no matter how much I adjust the handle. It goes from cold to slightly less cold. Hot water comes out of the sink facet, however.
I've been waiting on maintenance for an hour. They're "on their way soon" each time I check with the desk.
I have an early flight, and I just want to shower and go to bed.
At what point is it obnoxious to ask for a new room?

They probably knew the room had a busted shower and hoped you wouldn’t find out until tomorrow morning. Nobody’s coming to fix that goddamn thing this late.
Either learn to endure “slightly less cold” showers or get a new room.

Ask ASAP in case they become full occupancy.

I would have demanded one 59 minutes ago.

Any time after you reported no hot water would have been fine.
Hot water, heat, and A/C are all reasons to change immediately in my book.
However, I've never stayed in a hotel where hot water was a room-by-room experience. In all likelihood, there are several floors which don't have hot water, so you probably missed the window to move a while ago unless the hotel is basically empty.

^^^Hmm. I stand corrected.
Many hotels use a decentralized hot water system with hot water in each room.
Switch NOW.

Thanks everyone! I am in a new room (with hot water)

Wrap a towel around your waist and go to the front desk in a huff and demand to speak to the manager

If it wasn’t for us DLers, would this poor prick still be sitting in his room waiting for the imaginary maintenance man?

Tell them NOW so you don’t have to tell them THEN!
I was staying at the Phoenix Sheraton last month and this happened. The thing is, nobody would give me a straight story during 3 encounters that first night.
This was a Wednesday before a Furry Convention was to be hosted at this hotel. So as early bird attendees are checking in, I’m being told “oh it’ll be fixed, we’re on it,” but none of the new customers are being advised of it.
I checked out the next day, after a cold shower and a heated conversation with the front desk person who assured me the manager would be in touch.
One week later, with no communication from the manager, I wrote directly to Marriott. Later that day I was assured someone from the hotel would be in touch. Cut to three days later when my money was fully refunded.

OP has been vindicated!
Now she'll be nice and clean for her trick.

OP wanted a hot maintenance man to show up and you all foiled his plans!

R14: or did OP soil his pants?

So it sounds like the room was readily available. I wonder why they just didn't offer one. It beats the hell out of repeatedly taking calls from irate lodgers.

Just do a quick whore’s bath with a hand towel and some hot water from the kettle.

Are you staying at the Hilton Tarantula Arms?

Never put up with shit in hotels. Hotel people are lazy and stupid. Before you even unpack a thing, check to make sure the basics are covered. Water, hot water, working sinks, toilet, wifi, AC or Heat. If ANYTHING is wrong, take your suitcase and go back to the front desk hand then the key and say that room is unacceptable. Stand there until you get a new key. If they tell you there is no rooms, ask for a suite, if no suite, ask them to find a room for you at a neighboring hotel. Play hardball. Speak to the manager. Tell them your corporate travel has always put you up at hiltons in the past and you are so surprised this is happening.

If worse comes to worst, I would see if they have a shower at the hotel gym room.

Anyone who travels for business knows that r20's approach is a basic survival tactic, not Karening.

R20 is right. We spend too much time waiting on empty promises to be fulfilled. This is some bullshit. Personally, knowing you're chekcing out in the morning probably doesn't give them much incentive to fix it. Fuckers. I would stop payment on the bill and raise hell with corporate too.
