Catherine O'Hara killed it as no fucks given psychotherapist.

Young Manzino should be naked and bathing in a river only to notice Pedro Pascal peeking at his smooth male body through the branches of the nearby forest. They can get it on and on. Catherine O'Hara can unpack it all in a therapy session. So much more interesting than the over-the-top random violence in every episode.

I’m not reading this thread too closely because I haven’t started s2 yet, but I noticed an interesting disparity in the cotton tomatoes reviews.

Both seasons get close to 100% from the critics. But there’s a big drop in audience approval in s2 — 88% like s1 but only about 68% like s2. I wonder if that’s just unrealistic expectations after s1, or the incel brigade bombing the ratings door whatever weird agenda they have, or … it’s just not as good?

Yes, it's the incels doing that, the main sub for the game still can't get over Bella's casting. Only one episode of the second season has aired so far, so I don't know why RT even allows people to rate the season as a whole at this point.

Because they eventually got on board with that actress. What they can't get on board this season is that there's been a five-year time jump and she wasn't recast with a sexier actress.

season 1 started out as a great dystopian story and had some very appealing characters - the middle aged fungus scientist, the daughter who was killed, Joel. The gay couple episode was good on its own, but didn’t add to the storyline for me.

Now it’s just a soap opera. But that’s usually how it goes. Same with Designated Survivor, Yellow Jackets, Walking Dead.

Ellie is exceptionally unappealing. You don’t have to be a disappointed incel to feel that way. It doesn’t help that she is not good-looking, but she’s unfunny and an asshole outside of that. A good looking actress playing that role the same way would also be unlikeable. Every time she is on the screen she is doing something annoying. The sole exceptions in episode 1 were some of her light hearted interactions with her gf and the scene when she was watching her dance. She pulled that off. And then turned back into an asshole when Joel dared to stand up for her. The part where they were communicating silently was very stupid. Oh, look, what a bond they have! They are so expert at zombie hunting.! Well, apparently not because they fucked up. Because they were being assholes.

I watch this kind of thing for stuff like the stalker angle. Which didn’t get the build up it should have. They showed it and then Ellie announced it. It should have unfolded.

Bella is they now. Maybe a reason, who knows?

The actress they cast to play Dina is insanely charismatic. She's Hawkgirl in the new Superman movie as well.

But it did unfold – in the supermarket. I would have hated it if they had Bella keep quiet about it because she was too busy dealing with the bite. That would have been one of those "bad communication" tropes we see on TV so often. These post-apocalyptic people are direct and to the point, and I love that.

And unless you think I'm just praising the show, I did find some of Catherine O’Hara's lines cringe and unworthy of an actress like her. Like, we get it, she's a bad bitch, you don't have to keep hitting me over the head with it.

I thought Season One was top notch. Now in season 2, there are too many people. It's the Last of Us not More of Us.

There’s a guy on IG who stops people on the street in Manhattan to ask what they do for a living and it’s obviously quite staged because New Yorkers do NOT want to stop and talk.

But he does have Young Mazino jogging by shirtless and sweaty in one video. “I’m an actor!” he calls out as he doesn’t even stop his stride. I wish I knew the guy’s name.

I take it that most of you who are disappointed don’t play the video game series. Joel’s death in the second video game is what made the fans of the series extremely pissed off. I can only imagine that the reactions to the series and future episodes will get worse if it follows the storyline of the second game.

Killing off Joel is a true jump the shark moment. Yes, it's in the game. But a game is a game, and a TV show is a TV show. They have different rules.

Ellie is not a compelling enough character to carry the show, nor is Bella Ramsey a good enough actor. Turning the series into "Ellie's Revenge Quest" is boring.

I wasn't really into the season premiere, and the prospect of watching this show after obsessing over "White Lotus" for two months seemed like a tall order. But this seals it. I'm out.

I cringe every time Ellie swears, it just sounds so incongruous with that actress. And that's coming from someone who has no issue with this casting.

I like her and will keep watching, even though I’m pissed, I just can’t buy her as a 19 year old.

There are Joel flashbacks throughout the game. I'm assuming they'll do precisely the same in the series.

I'd recommend playing the game because Ashley Johnson is SO much better as Ellie, but honestly? When my gf was replaying Pt. 2, I just headed upstairs when Abby asserts herself as the game's other main character. Could not STAND her.

Now the tv series has an unlikeable Ellie and Abby. Good luck to those still watching.

Will it be explained where that horde came from? And what happens to those dogs now, do they immediately get infected as they attack the zombies and then have to be put down? I imagine infected dogs are as dangerous as the infected people, if not more so.

The dogs are purely a conceit from the series, not the game, so I don't know what the showrunners have planned.

There's one dog later in Pt. 2. Maybe that's where the two plot lines get tied up..?

The dogs were probably a nod to the dogs in the game that the W.L.F. in Seattle use to sniff out and attack trespassers (i.e. Ellie). A TV show obviously can't show her hacking her way through a bunch of German Shepherds, so instead the creators put them in Jackson to help the good guys take down the infected.

I've never been able to tell these two cuties apart.

The gist of it apparently is that the freckled one is a Texan and the other one a Mexican. Now I just need to come up with a mnemonic device that'll help me keep this distinction in my mind forever.

Given the plot and pacing of the TV series is closely following the game there is no way they can either not kill of Joel nor move his death to later. The rest of the plot depends on Ellie trying to take her revenge. There is no plot without this happening… unless it’s a completely different plot.

I really didn't think they'd kill off Joel on the show. Yes he died in the game but tv audiences are different. Also, the gaming audience hated that Joel died. There's never been a part 3 of the game.

I really don't care to see that ugly annoying little cunt be the main character of the show.

Tommy is probably sick/infected.

In World War Z, the zombies only attacked healthy people, and bypassed people who were dying of cancer or other illnesses.

It's likely that the attack dogs sensed something wrong with Tommy, and therefore avoided him.

It's not just Tommy. They avoided a whole bunch of uninfected people. Are they all sick?

I'm not digging the teen lesbo love story much. I muted it during the tent scene... don't care to hear them talking about their "feelings". Also, the idea of two teen girls going across a zombie infested world with limited supplies, hoping to eventually meet up with the ex-Fireflys on a revenge plan. Far-fetched much? Sheesh. I figure the game is based on this "whole get even for Joel scenario", but it's stupid IRL.
