Bowen Yang Distances Himself From Dave Chappelle During ‘SNL’ Good Night Segment

Bowen Yang didn’t seem too thrilled when Dave Chappelle, for reasons unknown to the audience and apparently some of the SNL cast, jumped on stage during the cast’s good night segment at the end of Saturday’s show.

Chappelle, who has drawn considerable backlash from the LGBTQ+ community for what many perceive as transphobic jokes, had no on-screen role in Saturday’s episode, which was hosted by Dakota Johnson and featured musical guest Justin Timberlake. Shark Tank’s Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran took part in a sketch and so were invited to the good night segment, as was Jimmy Fallon, who had joined Timberlake in their Bee Gees impersonations.

But Chappelle just seems to hop up on stage for no reason, standing to the far left of guest host Johnson.

Yang, who is gay, stood unsmiling on the the far opposite side of the stage, his hands crossed at the waist and a distance of at least several feet from anyone else on stage until cast member Sarah Sherman walked over to him and seemed to engage in a brief conversation. After Yang said something to her, she craned her neck around to get a glimpse of Chappelle.

As Sherman looked over at Chappelle, Yang looked into the audience and seemed to say, “Oh,” at which point Sherman patted him on the back.

Chappelle’s last SNL hosting gig in 2022 reportedly angered some of the SNL writers, with some even threatening to boycott the episode. Yang, Sherman and non-binary Molly Kearney were not involved in the 2022 taping when Chappelle hosted.

Deadline has reached out to Yang and SNL for comment.

[quote] Deadline has reached out to Yang and SNL for comment.

I'm on pins and needles, eagerly awaiting comment. This is such a dire moment for history.

by Anonymousreply 1January 29, 2024 6:51 PM

Who could give a fuck about Bowen Yang?

by Anonymousreply 2January 29, 2024 6:57 PM

Bowen Yang is such a petty little bitch.

He really needs to get over Dave Chappelle.

That was YEARS ago.

by Anonymousreply 3January 29, 2024 6:57 PM

Yawn.

by Anonymousreply 4January 29, 2024 6:58 PM

Bowen Yang is lucky he even has a career. He's unbelievably untalented and hideous to look at.

by Anonymousreply 5January 29, 2024 7:00 PM

R3, fuck Dave Chappelle. He's a piece of shit.

by Anonymousreply 6January 29, 2024 7:00 PM

And worse. For a comedian, he's not funny!

by Anonymousreply 7January 29, 2024 7:00 PM

[quote] fuck Dave Chappelle. He's a piece of shit.

Dilate more.

by Anonymousreply 8January 29, 2024 7:01 PM

I’m more offended Chapelle didn’t jump on stage sooner and host. I think he’s hilarious and an equal opportunity offender. People need to lighten up.

Saturday’s show was probably the worst SNL I’ve ever seen, and I’m usually an SNL apologist.

Can’t wait for Tina and/or Seth to clean house in ‘25.

by Anonymousreply 9January 29, 2024 7:04 PM

How's Dave and his Muslim faith? Is he leading Allah's holy lifestyle or what?

by Anonymousreply 10January 29, 2024 7:06 PM

Remember. Yang ONLY has a job there because the guy they initially hired had made some off color Black people joke. So Lorne Michaels backed out on that guy and made Yang a diversity higher. Thankfully, he won’t be there much longer with any amount of luck.

by Anonymousreply 11January 29, 2024 7:10 PM

How is this show still on the air!

by Anonymousreply 12January 29, 2024 7:12 PM

That's not true, R11. SNL's casting of Shane Gillis and Bowen Yang were announced at the exact same time. Questionable content from Gillis' podcast quickly surfaced and he was let go, but Yang was already in the cast.

by Anonymousreply 13January 29, 2024 7:15 PM

[quote]a diversity higher

oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 14January 29, 2024 7:18 PM

Fuck Bowen Yang. The trannies wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

by Anonymousreply 15January 29, 2024 7:25 PM

Chappelle is a fucking asshole who is about as funny as a fart in an elevator. Can't stand nasty pieces of shit like him.

by Anonymousreply 16January 29, 2024 7:26 PM

OP - I’ve distanced myself from SNL since all of the original cast left in 1980.

by Anonymousreply 17January 29, 2024 7:28 PM

Bowen also distended himself

by Anonymousreply 18January 29, 2024 7:33 PM

They are both overrated comedians. How about that? Heidi Gardner is funnier than both of them combined.

by Anonymousreply 19January 29, 2024 7:34 PM

Bowen Yang likes getting fisted.

by Anonymousreply 20January 29, 2024 7:35 PM

Finally, some gossip at R20. What do you know?

by Anonymousreply 21January 29, 2024 7:36 PM

Leave it to DL to drag the gay guy.

by Anonymousreply 22January 29, 2024 7:39 PM

Making faces and talking fast is what constitutes comedy for Bowen Yang.

The guy understands nothing, but absolutely nothing, about timing or how to deliver a punch line.

No matter what you think of Dave Chappelle's stance on certain issues, he knows how to tell a story. He's a pro. Yang is an amateur.

by Anonymousreply 23January 29, 2024 7:49 PM

r22 it's not that he's gay it's that he's talentless and annoying.

by Anonymousreply 24January 29, 2024 7:50 PM

Bowen Yang is one of the funniest, current cast members. That may not mean much, considering the show hasn’t been funny for years. I am also someone who is looking forward to Lorne Michaels’ departure. Ideally, the show will become funny once more!

by Anonymousreply 25January 29, 2024 8:01 PM

Remember when he and Dan Levy hooked up and caused drama when Levy hosted?

Yang seems like a stunted and dramatic drama queen.

That being said, he’s as funny as the rest of the current cast….

by Anonymousreply 26January 29, 2024 8:06 PM

Yes, Yang can be funny, but always, always safe. I doubt he'd ever do anything that wasn't fully approved by the Committee for LGBTQ+ Humor and Goodthink. Safety first.

Unlike Chappelle.

by Anonymousreply 27January 29, 2024 8:06 PM

Oh, look, no comments from the peanut gallery about Chapelle being Muslim.

What a terrible quandary it must be for them -- having to choose between Muslim vs. Gays. It's like their worst predicament ever!

by Anonymousreply 28January 29, 2024 8:13 PM

R11, Bowen Yang is the ONLY actor in the history of SNL to be nominated for an Emmy as a featured player.

He is there because he’s talented and you can bitch and moan about it all you want but that’s a fact.

by Anonymousreply 29January 29, 2024 8:20 PM

Hi Bowen!

by Anonymousreply 30January 29, 2024 8:21 PM

No shit, R22.

by Anonymousreply 31January 29, 2024 8:24 PM

Emmys don't mean anything. He was nominated because he's gay.

For Emmy noms or wins to matter you're going to have to prove that every cast member who's ever been on SNL submitted an episode for consideration every year they were on the show.

by Anonymousreply 32January 29, 2024 8:26 PM

[quote] Bowen Yang is the ONLY actor in the history of SNL to be nominated for an Emmy as a featured player. He is there because he’s talented and you can bitch and moan about it all you want but that’s a fact.

Are you retarded? Cast members have been nominated for (and won) Emmys going all the way back to 1978, when Gilda Radner won for featured actress.

by Anonymousreply 33January 29, 2024 8:46 PM

Preach, r33!

by Anonymousreply 35January 29, 2024 8:52 PM

More Trumptards. Oh joy. Classic BPD splitting.

by Anonymousreply 36January 29, 2024 8:53 PM

When you have no other argument, yell "Trump!"

by Anonymousreply 37January 29, 2024 8:55 PM

Criticizing Bowan Yang's lack of comedic talent means you're a MAGAt!

by Anonymousreply 38January 29, 2024 9:06 PM

R33, I said ACTOR not actress. Regardless, I said “featured player” which is NOT a cast member like Radner was when she won.

All of the Emmy nominations and wins for SNL have been cast members, not “featured players” which don’t have a contract yet.

by Anonymousreply 39January 29, 2024 9:09 PM

Here’s hoping Muriel shows these Trumptard interlopers the door ASAP.

by Anonymousreply 40January 29, 2024 9:18 PM

Racism is always their tell.

by Anonymousreply 41January 29, 2024 9:18 PM

Bowen is easily the biggest star on SNL right now, so Lorne is not smart to alienate him and other cast members by inviting Dave onstage with giving them a head ups first.

by Anonymousreply 42January 29, 2024 9:28 PM

Apart from everything else, Chappelle is no longer funny... hasn't been in several years. He's actually pretty tedious: huge smothering self-regard.

by Anonymousreply 43January 29, 2024 9:30 PM

I came in quite late to the show and stayed through the credits.

I was wondering why Dakota hadn't "thanked" Chappelle (I assumed he was in a sketch as a guest -- why else come on stage?)

by Anonymousreply 44January 29, 2024 9:35 PM

[quote] Bowen Yang is the ONLY actor in the history of SNL to be nominated for an Emmy as a featured player.

Chappelle is a homophobe who uses the "I'm a comedian" excuse after his homophobic rants.

A true piece of shit.

by Anonymousreply 47January 29, 2024 9:53 PM

I avoided the show because JT was the featured performer. Add another dipshit to the mix….

Dakota was awesome in Suspiria, but I don’t think I’ll follow anymore MCU movies.

by Anonymousreply 48January 29, 2024 11:10 PM

And Gilda was presented her Emmy by none other than Lynda Carter.

FUCK YOU CUNT. Just because a performer is gay doesn't mean we can't think he's a talentless shit. Idiots like you who shout "Trump!" "MAGA!" at everyone who isn't lock step with your opinions are so tiresome and intellectually lazy.

by Anonymousreply 50January 29, 2024 11:39 PM

A sensitive gay.

by Anonymousreply 51January 29, 2024 11:42 PM

R39, an actress is an actor...this isn't 1945. It's a better look to admit when you're wrong, instead of doubling down.

by Anonymousreply 52January 29, 2024 11:55 PM

Is R39 Bowen Yang? Who on earth knows all of this trivia about featured players vs. cast and when he won an Emmy?

by Anonymousreply 53January 30, 2024 12:07 AM

The only other comic I heard brave enough to criticize Caitlyn Jenner was Ludicris on The View. He said Laverne Cox looked like she’d had top-of-the-line work done and Caitlyn looked like she’d gone to Earl Schieb.

by Anonymousreply 54January 30, 2024 12:08 AM

This just makes me realize what an angry, dreary, and dreadful shitshow this program has become. It’s just imploding, especially since Lorne’s “Disney-fication” of it over the last several years.

by Anonymousreply 55January 30, 2024 12:15 AM

R53, we have folks that can identify performer, scene, and movie title based on one hairy mole on his balls.

We have people who can name the entire crew that worked a failed B movie from the early 60s.

They choose goodness over violence and you are blessed. Fucko

by Anonymousreply 56January 30, 2024 12:25 AM

[quote]an actress is an actor...this isn't 1945.

I've never understood why the lovely word "actress" had to be replaced with the word "actor".

by Anonymousreply 57January 30, 2024 12:33 AM

I have nothing against Bowen Yang, but he's an idiot. You burn no bridges in entertainment. Someone up thread called him SNL's biggest star, please. Give me a break.

by Anonymousreply 58January 30, 2024 12:44 AM

Dave Chappelle is not homophobic, period.

by Anonymousreply 59January 30, 2024 12:46 AM

" Yang, Sherman and non-binary Molly Kearney were not involved in the 2022 taping when Chappelle hosted."

God, the only reason Molly is even on SNL is the bullshit non binary label.

by Anonymousreply 60January 30, 2024 1:41 AM

What an utterly non story.

by Anonymousreply 61January 30, 2024 1:45 AM

Bowen Yang is lightyears ahead of so many of the painfully unfunny castmembers.

Punkie Johnson? Stinks up every scene - does NOT belong there. Molly Kearny? I guess they think they have to have a fat woman on there. Also unmemorable. Andrew Dismukes? I couldn't pick him out of a crowd.

Bowen is one of the best members of the current cast. It's always perplexing to me that after close to 50 years they can't seem to get a fully talented cast. It's baffling.

by Anonymousreply 62January 30, 2024 1:51 AM

Uh Molly is not a woman R62. They is non binary and that's why they were hired.

Chappelle is—at worst—one of the ten best stand-up comedians of all time. Bowen Yang, like the rest of the current SNL cast, is limited, a one-trick pony, and not funny. He’s not one of the 100 funniest cast members/featured players in SNL history. Performatively “distancing himself” will be his future in showbiz.

by Anonymousreply 74January 30, 2024 7:32 AM

No matter what you think about Bowen Yang, he’s not obligated to kiss Chappelle’s ass on the SNL stage.

by Anonymousreply 79January 30, 2024 8:26 AM

Bowen is hilarious and talented. Dave is a hasbeen who has now done three entirely unfunny “comedy” specials in a row whining about hating gay and trans people, a subject he is completely obsessed with to the exclusion of everything else. A waste of space who was not invited to be on the stage but jumped up there because he’s an attention whore. All Bowen did was avoid him which he has every right to do. Team Bowen. I hope he doesn’t comment on it though, bc all it will do is give Dave something else to whine about for 90 minutes solid on Netflix for the right-wing boomer bros who still give a shit that he exists. He’s the comedy equivalent of Kanye. Flushed all his talent years ago and now all he can make money off of is his performative outrage. Tedious.

by Anonymousreply 80January 30, 2024 8:44 AM

[quote] Bowen is hilarious and talented. Dave is a hasbeen who has now done three entirely unfunny “comedy” specials in a row

Why don't you look and see how much Chapelle made for those specials and then come back here and call him a has-been? Just because you have shitty taste and think Bowen Yang is funny doesn't make your statement fact. The fact is, Chapelle is more successful than Bowen Yang could ever even dream about being.

by Anonymousreply 81January 30, 2024 9:07 AM

If you think the iceberg sketch was funny, then you've pretty much told us how bad your taste is.

by Anonymousreply 82January 30, 2024 9:09 AM

Or that taste has moved on from you.

R74, no, Chappelle WAS good. He's SHIT now. He's adopted "punching down". He's literally no better than a Trumpster at this point. Stop making excuses for him. Stop papering over his PRESENT just because he was a genius in a long-ago past.

by Anonymousreply 87January 31, 2024 4:48 AM

No, R87, I'm not the one making an ass of myself. That'd be you, and him. How pathetic was it to jump up on stage like that, as if he belonged there, or deserved to be there, when he had NOTHING to do with the show?

Maybe you like comedians that punch down, but the rest of us recognize that kind of bullying bullshit for what it is.

by Anonymousreply 88January 31, 2024 4:56 AM

He's a comedian and he can say whatever the fuck he wants. But we have a right to snub the POS.

If some of you weak ass faggots don't know why we have every reason to reject this homophobic cunt, here you go:

[quote]“We Blacks,” he says, “we look at the gay community and we go … ‘Look how well that movement is going. Look how well you are doing. And we’ve been trapped in this predicament for hundreds of years. How … are you making that kind of progress?’ I can’t help but feel like if slaves had baby oil and booty shorts, we might have been free a hundred years sooner.”

So we're supposed to pay for his slave reparations and he can't even acknowledge that we've been under the jackboot for two thousand years?

by Anonymousreply 102January 31, 2024 8:14 AM

Chappelle has said terrible things about Asian men too, so I’m sure Yang was pissed off about that as well. These were not just stand up jokes, mind you, but LECTURES during his act. For instance, his defense of uber-homophobe Manny Pacquiao:

“These men have been fuckin’ emasculated. And then suddenly a boxer rises from amongst them and reinstates their manhood with his motherfuckin’ fists. This is not the guy who you’re supposed to ask what he thinks about homosexuals. He’s not your champ.”

by Anonymousreply 103January 31, 2024 8:14 AM

^^ In other words, Dave has said that Asian men, unlike Black men, have been emasculated by white colonialism, but Manny is an outlier. Dave’s made a lot of jokes about Asians being girly boys. Not that Yang is doing anything to refute that stereotype.

by Anonymousreply 104January 31, 2024 8:21 AM

Seriously surprised at the self-loathing, tasteless, crass idiots here trying to defend Chappelle's behavior and comments. WTF is wrong with you people? Chappelle is clearly in the wrong, has clearly lost his mojo, and is trying to substitute bigoted slander and toxic masculinity to make up for his lack of any new and decent comedy.

He's become a pathetic incel-like tool.

by Anonymousreply 105January 31, 2024 2:24 PM

Molly Kearney is a diversity hire just like Melissa Villasenor was. They made a big deal about them being the first non-binary member or Latina … and they did absolute shit with them.

They end up relegated to playing a co-worker in endless skits or a dinner guest and that’s it. Villasenor was a gifted mimic but they barely let her show it. I have no idea what Kearney’s talent is as they don’t seem to be very funny.

He took a drastic turn for the worse when he started hanging out with the Rogan and Musk crew. That’s when he bulked up and started drinking heavily. That was also the point when he turned from being a brilliant comedian into a mean bully and a lecturing scold. Not to defend his behavior, but I think Rogan got him hooked on steroids, T supplements, and god knows what else, sending Dave into relapse. The nastiness was always simmering under his surface, but his drinking and drugging and strip-clubbing sent it into the stratosphere.

Did he do it during a skit? During the opening monologue?

[quote]The people who are carping about Chapelle "going after the trannys" likely get their information from Twitter and never actually saw or heard the routine.

This was true initially, although he doubled down on them after the backlash. For instance, he recently described them as being akin to method actors who’ve lost themselves in their roles, which is much less charitable than his previous takes on them. Still, he’s been softer on them than other categories like women (especially lesbians), gay men, Asians, Jews, and ghetto Blacks, but none of these groups raised a fuss compared to the trans activists.

As a matter of fact, he had an unlikely friendship with a white trans woman, a mediocre comic whom he supposedly “mentored” out if the goodness of his heart, but I think there was some down low stuff going on, and like Eddie Murphy, he makes homophobic jokes to distance himself from his shady and questionable past “friendships.”

I didn’t know they hooked up but I still remember the cringe of Levy’s good nights when seemingly no one wanted to hug him or be around him. He finally had to hug his dad who had made a special appearance when no one else approached.

R120 Angry trick? Maybe. For a straight guy, Dave does seem weirdly interested in LGBTQ. If, say, he once surreptitiously cruised the streets looking for trans sex workers who “needed a ride home,” I doubt any would come forward, lest they end up like Eddie Murphy’s acquaintance, who died mysteriously in a freak accident after going public in People magazine.

Asshole.

by Anonymousreply 131February 1, 2024 12:49 AM

His Jussie Smollett routine was wonderful.

by Anonymousreply 132February 1, 2024 12:53 AM

Jumping onstage during the credits is fucked up. It’s not the end of the world and ultimately who cares about any of this, but it is arrogant and weird behavior.

by Anonymousreply 133February 1, 2024 12:57 AM

No, you just want to make it into something it's not to bolster your weak argument.

by Anonymousreply 134February 1, 2024 12:59 AM

Regardless of whether Dave should have been up there or not, Bowen shouldn’t have played into that dick move by acting like Dave’s stereotype of Asian and gay men, because that’s exactly what Dave wants. Instead, he should have strutted over and stood right next to Dave. That would have been a brave move, but Bowen doesn’t have the balls.

Chappelle's the kind of guy who helps white asshole dudes become better assholes.

by Anonymousreply 142February 1, 2024 7:36 AM

Usually, I side against Chappelle because he’s a chauvinist bigot, but unfortunately Yang has mocked gay men more on a single episode of SNL than Dave has in his entire career, so he can go cry in his pillow for all I care.

by Anonymousreply 143February 1, 2024 7:45 AM

I've never once seen Yang perform so I have no opinion of him as an entertainer but the picture of him sulking alone in the corner says much about him as a man. None of it good.

He's too damn old to be pouting like that.

by Anonymousreply 144February 1, 2024 8:03 AM

That's a lot of analysis for very little input, r144. In other words, it's banal prejudice.

by Anonymousreply 147February 1, 2024 8:22 AM

The Reddit thread has some people who have met Yang and said he’s quite snotty and unfriendly in person, including a frau who grew up with him and said he was bitchy and offensive growing up, so seeing his self-righteous attitude now is interesting.

I didn’t get through the 2100 replies though.

by Anonymousreply 148February 1, 2024 1:26 PM

r143 There's a huge difference between Yang's or any comedians "gay" jokes and what that clown Chappelle does. Who cares if he mocks gay men? We're not above critique. And we can laugh at ourselves.

But Chappelle does something very different. His attack is political and regressive. He seeks to put us back in the dark ages of sodomy laws.

I posted an excerpt above. He compares gay rights to the rights of blacks and slavery and claims we have no reason to fight for anything. He denies centuries of our oppression. Yes, he's a right wing regressive POS.

by Anonymousreply 149February 1, 2024 4:12 PM

You don't have to like or appreciate or defend Bowen Yang to point out and recognize that Dave Chappelle is has-been trash who is following Joe Rogan down the toxic masculinity path of willfully ignorant bigotry and punching-down.

This isn't a zero sum game here.

They can both be awful people.

by Anonymousreply 150February 1, 2024 4:34 PM

Can't we just deport Bowen back to japan?

by Anonymousreply 151February 1, 2024 4:36 PM

R149 Point taken, but I never considered Dave “right wing,” mainly because he’s both black and Muslim, people that the Republicans demonize on a regular basis. That said, I think his negative views on homosexuality and non-traditional gender roles do come from his background in Islam. He even hobnobbed with Farrakhan for a while, and the Nation of Islam is notoriously homophobic and antisemitic. Dave’s grievances are steeped in that stuff. Let’s see how the horseshoe effect of conservative Muslims and Republicans uniting in Michigan goes. Maybe I can wrap my brain around Dave and other Muslims becoming MAGATs.

by Anonymousreply 152February 1, 2024 4:39 PM

Someone on this thread clearly just learned the phrase "punching down" and is so excited to be using it.

[quote] I never considered Dave “right wing,” mainly because he’s both black and Muslim, people that the Republicans demonize on a regular basis.

r152 I would consider socially conservative Islam to be right wing. Th Nation of Islam and Farrakhan are right wing as well. They're admired by white separatists because Black Muslims are black separatists. Black Muslims believe in Booker T Washington's "pull yourself up by your own bootstraps" philosophy - no reliance on a progressive central government.

by Anonymousreply 155February 1, 2024 5:40 PM

Ha R153. Truth. It's always been an annoying phrase.

by Anonymousreply 156February 1, 2024 5:40 PM

R153 "punching down" and "toxic masculinity" both in one sentence!

by Anonymousreply 157February 1, 2024 5:46 PM

R155 That makes sense, although Dave isn’t a Black separatist by any stretch. He has dozens of white friends, and his wife is Filipino. His fan base is predominately white too. IIRC, he was raised in a racially mixed suburb by upper middle class parents, so he’s not exactly a brother from the hood.

by Anonymousreply 158February 1, 2024 6:33 PM

I think the iceberg sketch is funny, it got some laughs, but it’s “Carol Burnett Show” funny. I can totally see Harvey Korman doing the exact same bit. Chappelle’s humor is quite different from that style, so there’s really no comparison.

Jesus Christ, that iceberg sketch is the opposite of funny.

by Anonymousreply 161February 1, 2024 7:46 PM

In skilled hands the iceberg sketch could have been funny.

Bowen Yang's act is all about being a gay stereotype.

He's a throwback to the era of Paul Lynde, but without the talent.

by Anonymousreply 173February 3, 2024 1:58 PM

I'm a strong believer in comics having a broad field to play on and then letting the audience decide if they want to hear what the comic has to say. Since Dave Chappelle's audiences have not dwindled and his specials still do incredibly well for Netflix, I would assume the audience has made its choice.

Bowen Yang can distance himself from whomever he chooses, but why show your ass on TV, unless getting attention for yourself is more important than the thing you're supposed to be upset about.

by Anonymousreply 174February 3, 2024 2:08 PM

R174 Agree 100%. There’s something to be said for professionalism. Yang is more interested in virtue signaling.

by Anonymousreply 175February 3, 2024 3:15 PM

If you ever listen to Yang discuss anything on his culturistas podcast, he has the maturity of a 19 year old girl. It’s not surprising he would get offended, march onstage, pull that body language and hiss at his friend to look over at Chappelle. It’s how a passive aggressive teenager would act if her nemesis dared step foot onstage.

His best friend (and podcast cohost) Matt Rogers is likable, funny and quite cute. I don’t know how he puts up with Yang.

Remember Yang announcing a social media break because he was disassociating? The break lasted a couple days and he later said it was disassociation from mixing a bunch of psych meds 🙄

by Anonymousreply 176February 3, 2024 3:30 PM

R175, what "professionalism" was Chappelle showing in that moment? Thinking he deserved to be up on that stage for no reason, having had absolutely nothing to do with the show?

by Anonymousreply 177February 3, 2024 4:04 PM

I hate them both!

by Anonymousreply 178February 3, 2024 4:12 PM

[quote]what "professionalism" was Chappelle showing in that moment? Thinking he deserved to be up on that stage for no reason, having had absolutely nothing to do with the show?

He's hosted the show 3 times.

He's part of the SNL family, is friends with the cast. And he's not the only celeb to ever make a surprise appearance.

Have any other cast members complained, or shown any discomfort, with Chapelle being there, besides this attention hungry little twerp?

by Anonymousreply 180February 3, 2024 4:21 PM

Maybe Dave jumped on stage so he could tell Bowen how much he loved him in Bros.

by Anonymousreply 181February 3, 2024 5:27 PM

Bowen doesn't represent me as a gay person.

In my opinion, he's a petty, bitchy, cliquish little annoying queen who needs to be ignored and/or shunned.

You know, the one who keeps buzzing around you at a club, until you have to tell it to GO AWAY.

by Anonymousreply 182February 3, 2024 5:31 PM

Lorne has banned Kanye West and Martin Lawrence from hosting. He had Trump host the show once. Lorne is not as politically correct as you think, R184.

by Anonymousreply 188February 3, 2024 7:02 PM

Dave Chappelle wasn’t even on the show. So I don’t know why in the hell he jumped up on stage. He’s just like Jon Hamm. Waiting for the after party so they can get wasted. Sick of both of them.

by Anonymousreply 189February 3, 2024 11:31 PM

I just can’t with Yang. Ever since he played the iceberg that sank the TITANIC. So corny. And Chappelle is okay with me…we’re around the same age so I get him. And I’m not pro-trans so there’s that. But people forget about his friend who was a trans woman who took their own life. He mentions that in his last stand up comedy before his most recent. I don’t think he’s anti trans at all.

Bowen Yang's entire career is born from Social Media and 3-minute videos. He'd be crucified on the internet if didn't show contempt for a successful comedian and a storied career like Dave Chappels. BTW, what comedian or comic actor/writer isn't deep down problematic and awkward?

by Anonymousreply 195February 4, 2024 6:20 AM

by Anonymousreply 196February 4, 2024 6:27 AM

It's clear a lot of gay white men put being "white men" over being gay, and will jump on board any white supremacy train, and defend any bigotry, and side with any male bigot. Chappelle is just another sell-out to white supremacist bigotry himself, as too many minorities are doing lately. His embrace of Joe Rogan is a perfect data point.

And y'all are defending Dave Chappelle's cooning and clownery.

by Anonymousreply 200February 4, 2024 1:34 PM

Exactly.

The ONLY reason he has any sort of career is because of his time on SNL.

The moment he leaves the show, he'll never be heard from again.

by Anonymousreply 201February 4, 2024 1:39 PM

The trans bit in Dave's act was a one off, some people lost their minds and tried to cancel him, so he doubled down on it because he's in a position where he'd rather double down than have a vocal minority dictate what he can say on stage. Quite frankly, I think the reason why he hasn't been cancelled is because either 1) he didn't say anything all that bad and/or 2) what he said a lot of people have thought at least once and it didn't come across as transphobic.

by Anonymousreply 202February 4, 2024 1:56 PM

R200, if you think that's what being trans is, you're a fucking ignorant bigoted asshole.

by Anonymousreply 203February 4, 2024 4:39 PM

[quote] Shane Gillis to host SNL on February 24

Shane Gillis, the comedian who was fired from “Saturday Night Live” after racist jokes of his resurfaced in 2019, is set to host “SNL” on Feb. 24 with musical guest 21 Savage.

Gillis was hired as a new cast member in September 2019, but was fired a week later after videos surfaced of the comedian using racial slurs in a September 2018 episode of his podcast. Soon after the clip was posted to Twitter, it went viral, leading to an outcry for “SNL” to fire Gillis. The comedian used slurs against Asians and the LGBTQ community in past episodes of his show.

“I’m a comedian who pushes boundaries,” Gillis said in a statement posted on Twitter shortly after the outcry. “I sometimes miss. If you got through my 10 years of comedy, most of it bad, you’re going to find a lot of misses. I’m happy to apologize to anyone who’s actually offended by anything I’ve said. My intention is never to hurt anyone but I am trying to be the best comedian I can be and sometimes that requires risks.”

Gillis released his first comedy special on YouTube in 2021 and his second special, “Shane Gillis: Beautiful Dogs” on Netflix in 2023.

Humor is subjective. I never found Andrew Dice Clay or Dane Cook funny, but they sold out arenas and stadiums, and the crowds yelled and chanted as if those were big sports events instead of stand-up comedy shows.

[quote] the comedian who was fired from “Saturday Night Live” after racist jokes of his resurfaced in 2019, is set to host “SNL” on Feb. 24

The masks comes off. NBC and SNL openly encourages racism.

Like Joe Rogan, Dave has spent way too much time huffing his own farts and buying his own bullshit. His ego is out of control.

There's definitely a market for arrogantly ignorant asshats. I mean, just look at Joe Rogan.

I'm just surprised and disappointed that there are so many gay men and members of this site that are part of that market. It's kinda pathetic.

Rogan’s a meathead, but he’s a good interviewer who gets his guests to open up. Chappelle is a bigot, but he’s a clever bigot who has a way with words. Yang is just an embarrassing sissy who’s comedy is as broad and corny as a 70s variety show. You can guess which one of the three I can’t tolerate.

by Anonymousreply 236February 5, 2024 6:57 PM

^^ whose, not who’s.

I don't think cast members make a lot per show. I wonder how many Bowen can afford to sit out and how much Lorne must hate him.

Hoping Dave will disappear again. Have another mental breakdown.

by Anonymousreply 240February 5, 2024 9:59 PM

R240 Like the one Bowens had?

by Anonymousreply 241February 5, 2024 10:02 PM

Chappelle, Rogan, and Musk: you should should all go to drug/alcohol rehab. Also, quit the weekly testosterone injections. Your heads are turning into hemorrhoids.

by Anonymousreply 242February 5, 2024 10:08 PM

R236, why waste time with any of them?

by Anonymousreply 243February 5, 2024 10:43 PM

I’m explaining why those guys are successful millionaires with huge fanbases, while Yang, on the other hand, is on his way to becoming yet another forgotten SNL castoff.

After reading R245, I can see why Lorne Michaels hates Bowen Yang, and either wants him to quit, or to fire him.

This whiny cunt is a liability, and ruining the show.

by Anonymousreply 246February 6, 2024 12:31 AM

He may be those things, but he's also not wrong.

by Anonymousreply 247February 6, 2024 4:30 AM

Dave Chappelle and Ricky Gervais are breaths of fresh air. People are sick and tired of the PC crap.

[quote]Dave Chappelle and Ricky Gervais are breaths of fresh air. People are sick and tired of the PC crap.

True.

And if Bowen were an actual comedian, he would have come up with a smart funny snarky comment to deal with Nikki Haley being on the show, or Chapelle jumping up on stage, instead of sulking. A George Carlin or Richard Pryor have known how to handle the situation.

𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 -- 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐆𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬

Bowen Yang changed his mind about using passive-aggressive Instagram posts to send Saturday Night Live leadership a message. Apparently, he’s now doing it by giving them the silent treatment.

As of today, Yang’s Instagram page no longer contains any mention of Haley’s SNL appearance. In fact, it no longer contains any mention of SNL at all – the comedian scrubbed every scrap of SNL from his social media presence.

SNL fans who have never listened to a single episode of Las Culturistas will probably see the similarities between Yang’s online behavior and that of a star athlete sending a message to his team’s front office that he wants to be traded. For celebrities in the modern age, scrubbing your show, sports team or record label from your social media profiles is Pot-Stirring 101.

by Anonymousreply 253February 8, 2024 4:47 AM

Stupid ass is gonna fuck himself right out of a D-list career into Nobodyville.

Message to Bowen Yang- You DON'T have fans. No one will remember you five minutes after your ass hits the pavement.

Translation? FIRED!

Shane Gillis is hosting SNL on February 24th, and he does not hold back on the tranny jokes. Chappelle looks like the goddamn HRC in comparison. I think Lorne is sending a message to both Yang and the it/that cast member!

This is pretty typical behavior by a fem azn queen.

It's why nobody likes them.

They're just fucking annoying!

by Anonymousreply 257February 8, 2024 3:17 PM

I hope Lorne gets pushed out the door sooner than he planned. SNL is NBC's biggest show among the coveted youth demographic, and they don't like anti-trans and conservative rhetoric. Lorne is really biting the hand that feeds him.

No, dear. That would be Bowen Yang, who is biting the hand that is feeding him.

Lorne pays his salary.

It's just funny to me that Chapelle walked away from his enormously lucrative show because racists found him funny and now he is making enormous amounts of money by making racists laugh.

by Anonymousreply 261February 8, 2024 3:59 PM

My coloncunt stinks!

by Anonymousreply 262February 8, 2024 4:03 PM

I'm shocked that crybaby Bowen hasn't boycotted the show yet over Shane Gillis hosting this Saturday.

He must know that he's on fucking THIN ICE with Lorne Michaels.

"If you don't like it, then QUIT!"

by Anonymousreply 263February 20, 2024 11:26 PM

Oh I’m sure he will do something. He won’t be able to contain himself.

by Anonymousreply 264February 20, 2024 11:32 PM

Did the crybaby pout and throw a tantrum AGAIN last night?

by Anonymousreply 265February 25, 2024 3:27 PM

This show is such a downgrade for Shane. It’s corny and no one watches it.

by Anonymousreply 266February 25, 2024 3:45 PM

This was pretty great:
