I don't buy it, Kate is too thin. Now Camilla I would believe it.

Kate is much too thin to be an alcoholic.
A coke head - sure. But, no way an alcoholic. Her skin also looks too good to be a long-time booze hound.

I could believe this. Mattress Kate has had a prematurely haggard face for years. Could be the extreme thinness but just as likely alcohol. She smokes or was a smoker, too. She's not exactly wholesome!

No alcoholic has her waist. Sure. She may like her drink (who can blame her with her husband and sister law). Agree she looks older than her age but that is probably due to being to thin. Something her most of her inlaws are well out of.

by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 27, 2024 12:24 AM |
The only way that Kate could be classed as an alcoholic would be in that she might drink over the recommended number of units per week. I work at a drug and alcohol rehab centre in London and we have people there who were hardcore alcoholics their entire adult lives and even they never needed abdominal surgery over it.
She's far too high-functioning to be full-on medically alcoholic. We'd have heard about it years ago. She's too fit and active.

I went through several years where I was borderline alcoholic. I stayed thin and was high-functioning. Another alcoholic might have clocked my situation, but I never had a "talking-to" at work about my work performance. I quit the job and left on good terms. Moved on to other jobs and also quit drinking.
Do I think she's an alcoholic? Possibly.
Point is: you can't tell, just by looking at her, whether she's an alcoholic. She's 42, which is relatively young. Time will tell.
I do think she has an eating disorder, though.

I don’t think Kate’s an alcoholic and I don’t think Meghan is suggesting it.
But it’s not completely impossible. I’d buy a closet drinker scenario. Drinking it get through public appearances and ending up with liver shot early because she doesn’t eat enough. But I think it’s extremely unlikely.
Colon surgery is the best bet. It fits with everything.

R41, my therapist said why don’t you try quitting. I didn’t intend to quit forever. I’ve gone on and off with drinking, before. This time, considering my age, it was just time to call it quits. I’ve had my fun and got to party more than most. Got rid of my wine glasses, wine opener, etc. I drank hard liquor as well. Done, I hope.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 27, 2024 6:23 AM |
Not saying I believe this - I hope it's not true. But pancreatitis can result from long-term alcoholism. Wonder if it ever shows up in someone this young? I would assume her thinness would make her body suffer even more from excess alcohol??
"Chronic pancreatitis can be treated either by subtotal (or, rarely) total pancreatectomy; or, when the anatomy is suitable, by draining chronically obstructed and dilated pancreatic ducts (Peustow Procedure.) None are great options: the former leaves one diabetic and needing oral enzyme supplements; the latter can cause dramatic improvement, which may or may not be as dramatic as hoped and may or may not last long."

by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 27, 2024 7:48 AM |
I was thinking you had to be older for pancreatitis to show up, but then I remembered the musician Avicii was hospitalized for it when he was about 22! He was born in Sept 1989. God he was beautiful.
"The DJ brought a wider musicality, and a broader sense of innovation, to EDM than any other artist of the time, resulting in crossover pop hits such as Levels and the ground-breaking electro-country smash Wake Me Up. But serious issues began to emerge as far back as 2012. For 11 days that year, Avicii was hospitalized in New York with acute pancreatitis, brought on by alcohol abuse. The film shows him in 2014 in Australia undergoing surgery to remove his appendix and gallbladder, after another flare of the disease. In the film, Avicii talks about why he turned to drink. 'If I don’t [drink] I gradually get more and more nervous before shows,” he says. “Alcohol just stops that.'"

Kate is way to lean and fresh-faced to be an alcoholic. Also, the only abdominal surgeries necessitated by alcoholism are the placement of a Denver shunt to reduce ascites, or a liver transplant to replace the one the alcoholic killed. Ascites makes an alcoholic look pregnant, and their faces look old and beat-up.

I'm tickled as all get-out on this take of her situation by r63 and, with the exception of liking Markle, I couldn't agree more with it.
When the financial chips are down, and I believe that the Sussexes will have a day of reckoning on that (the "right" private or even public schools for the children cost many thousands of dollars and a 14 million dollars estate doesn't pay for and perform its own maintenance), unless KC rescues them, I've always advocated for her to pay the bills by going back to acting.
Markle should embrace her villainy.
Of course, she doesn't have nearly the presence and talent of, say, a Vanessa Williams or Joan Collins. But she might be able to get by with portraying a current day Amanda Woodward.
I wasn't a Melrose Place watcher. I saw enough clips of it to know, however, that Heather Locklear really nailed being a star villain.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | January 27, 2024 2:33 PM |
Except is there any money embracing the villainy? She'd be perceived as playing herself, and the polling on self isn't good.

[quote] Her skin also looks too good to be a long-time booze hound.
You don't have to be a long time booze hound to be an alcoholic. An alcoholic is basically addicted to alcohol very early in their drinking process. It's no different than someone who becomes addicted to cocaine or meth or any other myriad of hard drugs. Alcoholism is not an uncontrollable habit. It's a physical addiction.

Good point, r71, but I think it would be worth a go.
It's telling of the Sussexes and their reduced position that I'm more intrigued by WME than by their client. I find it compelling how, and if, they can maintain a career for her.
As I wrote in the other thread, I think their appearing at the Jamaican premier of the that Bob Marley film was an attempt to show them to "be down" with the real people. Nope, not for us to support some glitzy, elevated LA or London premier.
I think that appearance in Jamaica was calculated to be perceived that way.
I give them this much credit : I'll tune to see what's next.

by Anonymous | reply 76 | January 27, 2024 3:00 PM |
Somebody who weighed the balance:
One scale, do I dress down and catch hell? Mostly from Jamaicans because I didn’t think they were good enough to glam it up for?
On the other scale, do I not take any chances, put in the effort of perhaps overdressing and eat the risk of being knocked for that?
I’d choose the 2nd option, too.
Also, I didn’t think she looked too much at the Jamaica premier.
True, the black ball skirt was very dressy, but I thought the tank top brought it down to just right.

My guess is if, not when, but it's the kind of thing you gotta wait and see. I can't believe lessons have been learned. I would love to know why WME signed. The ultimate challenge?

Markle, the Paul Burrell of this century, is rumored to be writing a tell-all book of her 72 days as a working royal. And Harold, despite not selling enough to make the nut the first time around, has 400 sizzling pages he cut out of Spare. It's unclear if Penguin will undertake these two masterpieces. And Harkles are supposedly producng a movie for Netflix, so WME might dine on the leftovers.

[quote] Markle, the Paul Burrell of this century, is rumored to be writing a tell-all book of her 72 days as a working royal.
And I believe that rumor.
That, however, puts Harry in a precarious position with KC. I assume that Harry, one day, will want a rapprochement with Dad and a few shillings upon his death. A book by Markle may irrevocably incinerate whatever chance there was to reconcile.
Otoh, maybe, just maybe, Harry knows he burned his bridges to Dad, both familial and financial. Maybe Harry took a portion of whatever cash he had and saved and invested wisely and has put himself in a position where he won't need Pop.
Somehow, though, that strikes me as unlikely.

[quote] [R43] glad it's working for you. Does your therapist have a particular approach to therapy that you find helpful?
R45, no, my therapist didn't give me any advice on how to stop.
Here's what I did, though. I tracked how much I was drinking. I was an at-home drinker. So, I measured out how much I was drinking; no free-pouring. I also kept a log or tally of how many drinks per day.
Finally, I kept a financial log (monthly) of how much I was spending on alcohol & alcohol-related things (wine opener, etc.).
I was also honest with my therapist about how much I was drinking (because I had been logging things). Sometimes, 10 drinks in one day.
After a while, it was just enough.
Also, in my profession, there seem to be a fair amount of drinkers and alcoholics. Call me a snob, but I wanted to be different.

Why is Stevie Wonder saying that Megan Kelly called Kate Hepburn an alcoholic Dorthy?
by Anonymous | reply 103 | January 28, 2024 6:30 AM |
This story is complete bullshit. If Kate was an alcoholic we would definitely have heard stories from gossipy courtiers and others. Both the Queen mum and Princess Margaret were heavy drinkers and that was no secret, everybody knew that at the time.
This is just made up crap for the internet.

R5 This is at remembrance day. You judge people's looks at funerals too?
by Anonymous | reply 105 | January 28, 2024 9:46 AM |
I doubt Meghan indulged this rumor.
That said, Kate has the face of a mum who likes her 2 bottles of wine every evening in order to chase down a benzo or two.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | January 28, 2024 10:35 AM |
I don’t believe this because I’m an alcoholic, I don’t see the signs and I know what to look for. However, alcoholism is an insidious disease and it certainly is possible for daily social drinking to become more. If it is her issue and she is addressing it, good for her.

They harvested all her royal eggs and gouged out every bit of her reproductive system.
Any upward draft and you’ll hear port calls from Dover Harbour.

It would take less than a minute for any sentient being to surmise that Meghan is absolutely no prize.

r109, and yet that didn't stop men from renting out Lindsay Lohan and one guy actually marrying her.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | January 28, 2024 3:09 PM |
And that somehow makes Meghan better? Um, OK...
by Anonymous | reply 111 | January 28, 2024 3:16 PM |
Kate is the next Queen Consort; they will protect her at all costs. She's probably a raging drunk. But this is what she wanted. Serves her right if she is.

R112 stop talking crap you imbecile.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | January 28, 2024 9:34 PM |
Alcoholism doesn't necessitate an abdominal surgery and long post-op hospitalization unless one needs a liver transplant. If she was at that stage of cirrhosis she would have a hugely distended abdomen with skinny arms and legs. She would look haggard. Think about the way Kate looks now, at 42 years-old, and think of the way Judy Garland looked in her last years (Judy was 47 when she died).

by Anonymous | reply 117 | January 29, 2024 9:39 AM |
Meghan didn't say a God damned thing. Nothing. Not a single word.
Kate probably went to rehab for a prescription drug problem. Otherwise she has a vag or a bowel problem. Or even a venereal disease that caught up with her. Whatever it is, it's embarrassing. It's either a drugs, vag or ass problem
It's ironic, For 5 years this bitch Kate has personally been feeding bullshit to the tabloids about Meghan and Harry just because they wanted privacy and now this bitch wants privacy for herself. No one has demanded and gotten this much privacy that kate's gotten. No one in the entire world.
And she must have gotten an injunction to prevent the press from writing anything about her problem. Just like William got an injunction to prevent the press from talking further about his affair with Rose.
There's NO WAY the British tabloids would treat anyone like this, the way they've kept kate's secret this past two weeks out of deference. She got an injunction. Shame on Kate for being so fucking secretive. And also for LYING to the press. She's a God damned SNEAK. And sneaky behavior is typical for junkies.
by Anonymous | reply 118 | January 30, 2024 7:45 AM |
What’s Kate’s secret, then R118? You’ve posited prescription drug addiction, something with her vagina, something with her bowel and/or an STD. One of these? All of these?
by Anonymous | reply 119 | January 30, 2024 8:01 AM |
All these Royals have cancer. "You know what happens to people who lie? They get sick and get cancer. If they keep lying, they get it again."
by Anonymous | reply 120 | January 30, 2024 10:04 AM |
Whoa, R118, you have some real anger at the Princess of Wales. You’re mighty invested in someone you’ve never met.
by Anonymous | reply 121 | January 30, 2024 10:12 AM |
Her secret is she is bald and probably now has a colostomy bag, hopefully temporary.
I don’t share R118’s outrage because I don’t like Meghan and Harry based on objective things unrelated to their press coverage (like the Uvalde visit and the high speed car chase claim), but I do think that in allowing Kate her privacy in this (not a bad thing it itself) the closeness of the relationship between the press and the BRF has been revealed. And this isn’t something that started two weeks ago. Kate stepped out in a laughable wig in September and the tabloids pretended it was a new hairstyle.
Why don’t they print things along the lines of, “Kate is back at home recovering from her recent surgery. As previously agreed (or in accordance with an injunction, legal requirements, whatever), no additional information on her discharge will be provided.” ? Why pretend it’s what they would have done anyway or that they are taking the moral high road (ridiculous). They print articles all the time that completely distort events related to private citizens, but Kate, a public figure, is untouchable? That’s OK if it’s only in regard to issues related to a very short term health event, but say it! And this isn’t a short term health event. It’s ridiculous that they print articles on how to achieve Kate’s “glossy hair.” I don’t even think she’s actually bald. I suspect she just experienced intermittent thinning and wants to not have to explain it.

Is R118 alcoholic Meghan?
by Anonymous | reply 123 | January 30, 2024 12:33 PM |
I'm betting she had ulcers that were bleeding - she went in for a scope, upper and lower, and something got nicked. And she bled out. Guessing she had some transfusions and needed time to get her blood count back to normal. And they needed to make sure everything was healing.
This happened to my mother.

R118 wrong. Harry and Meghan said it was never about privacy. It was about fair coverage. Meghan felt she did everything right and wasn't getting good press. She felt like no one had a sense of who she really was because of bad press. Harry has said the offices of other royals feed stories to keep their own bad press down. Both sets fed stories. They didn't want to offer up their baby to get a similar negative press.
Although if they had, people would have backed off them because they would have felt guilty attacking children and parents.
Meghan should get back into acting or hosting the View. Everything Andrew did was 10000 times worse but they want a good royal bad royal story with the more popular ones, who only have about another a decade until their children take over the spotlight.

His obsession with "fairness" is hilarious. This, coming from someone who was literally born a prince who grew up in a palace.
South Park had the right idea when they re-titled his memoir.

With one exception, the UK tabloids weren't being racist when MeGain made Dimbo put out that statement chastising them, social media and public comments, comparing the attention she was receiving to that which Princess Diana received. As if.
It was also when he confirmed their status as a couple, because he had been cheating on her.

by Anonymous | reply 140 | February 4, 2024 1:41 PM |
"I think we both know that I'm going to be one of your bosses soon" is a true hallmark of a sociopath. Intimidating and bullying but all in the guise of some sharp Yank ready to shake up the system and modernise it, when in reality she's a third rate grande horizontale.
by Anonymous | reply 141 | February 4, 2024 7:17 PM |
R138 It's easier to label what she did wrong, only change Meghan's name to Prince Andrew or King Charles as you list all the egregious offenses to ward off some woman hating tirade.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | February 4, 2024 10:20 PM |
R142. First of all, trying to argue Meghan is at least better than Andrew is a sign of severe desperation. Nobody likes Andrew either, and at least he doesn’t talk weekly how hard he’s been done by.
Charles is a completely different case. He certainly has his flaws, but, by and large, he’s taken the attitude that, although he had no choice in assuming this role, he will perform and not complain about it too much. He isn’t issuing daily statements about how ungrateful the British people are or calling for press censorship. He’s not vile like Meghan

So Diana did the BBC interview because she was paranoid people around her were being paid by the BRF to spy on her, yet she didn't want to get divorced. And was angry when the late Queen told her that a divorce was happening.
Okaaaaay.
Just wondering what she thought the fall out would be...and why she wanted to stay in a family that she thought had her under surveillance...
Between the BPD and the paranoia...
