Meghan and Harry Visit Jamaica
And pose for photos next to the anti-royal Jamaican Prime Minister who wants to ditch the UK monarchy and warned Wills and Kate they'll never be King and Queen of his nation.
While both Charles and Kate are hospitalized.
Intentional snarkiness or thoughtless scheduling?

r2 Its a film with very little promo (that I've seen anyway) with no big names attached being shoved out in January, with its premier being held off the usual celeb grid in Jamaica. There are a lot of paradoxes, r19. Just because the prime minister of Jamaica doesn't believe the British monarch should be head of state of his own country, doesn't mean he doesn't want good relations with the British head of state and with Britain or even with the Governor General of Jamaica. In fact, I'd wager that the only reason he had his photo taken with two randoes is precisely because Harry is Charles' son and he wants to maintain good relations with Charles.
What's happened with the move to a republic in Jamaica anyway? Supposedly it would happen before the elections of 2025 but that's not so long away now.

R24 I would say the royals are more controversial than unpopular. Despite the British press calling William and Kate's tour in 2022 a "blunder," the crowds that greeted them were unexpectedly large. Although I suspect the referendum to make Jamaica a republic will be successful, the push to ditch the monarchy in the remaining Caribbean realms has more to with Chinese investment and corrupt politicians than the whole so-called woke agenda.

R31, the push to remove the British monarch as the head of state of Caribbean realms is more to do with the fact that these are independent countries thousands and thousands of miles from the UK. As a Brit who believes that the monarch makes perfect sense for the UK, I can see that having the British monarch as head of state makes no sense for these countries. It won't have any effect on the overall status of the monarchy.

I've lately become fascinated by the level of hate these two have flung at them all the time. It's mind boggling. They went to some premier. Who cares? And they shouldn't have gone because some relatives were sick? Really? That's the thinking?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 26, 2024 2:41 AM

Oh r50, wait until you come across the ones who don’t believe the kids are real. Yup, rented, surrogate births, reborn dolls, you name it. In this instance, even though the January release means the movie is probably not very good, there are premieres scheduled for LA and London to which they weren’t invited, Brad Pitt is an exec producer and could be in attendance at one of them, and Jeff Bezos’ had a massive birthday party the same night to which they were, again, not invited. So it’s kind of like a combination of all this plus an overdressed Meg sitting a row in front of a guy wearing a baseball cap.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 26, 2024 2:57 AM

Odd they were invited to the Jamaica premiere, but not the one in L.A.

R50, their whole shtick has been to engender hate. They're obsessed with getting the world to hate their families, especially their fathers and his brother. When your only achievement is to shit all over your family and in the most public way possible, this is what you get. That plus their grifting.
R51, I believe the kids are real and Meghan birthed them, but there are some photos from when she was pregnant, taken on the same occasion, where in one photo her belly is looking regularly pregnant and then in another photo it looks as though it's slipped down or has deflated.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | January 26, 2024 6:00 AM

Another reason why they get so much contempt is because they're such obvious frauds. Here's what happened at the Jamaica premiere when they didn't realise the camera was on them. They're seated way, way back (overdressed Meghan presumably thought they were going to be front row), they look like they're arguing, Harry is angry. Yet they continue with these low-rent events in order to stay in the public eye (the one they claim not to want have stare at them).
They're seated so far back that it's doubtful they were there as special guests of the Paramount boss. Sounds like another scam set up for them by Markus or WME.

The Sussexes have royally screwed up.
But, optics aside, (and yes, I know, they’re all that matters) who wants front row seats at a showing of a movie?
Middle seats in the middle are where the good seats are.
Anyway, I don’t know whether or not they were invited to the LA or London premiers.
But this choice to be among Jamaicans in Jamaica was deliberate on their part. They see the “street cred” of it and want to be perceived among that.
I think, at best, they got minimal results on that, but It does signal a different approach to managing their stardom, such as that is.

They may not have been loudly screaming and shouting, r60, but it's clear from the non-posed shots that all was not well. Whether they were annoyed with each other or with the situation is a moot point. Harry was bred to be polite and charming and be aware that he's in public and people are looking, it's second nature to him on these kinds of occasions. For him to be pulling that face suggests he was very annoyed with something. Meghan can be seen in some snaps doing her placid rictus smile, which suggests she was uncomfortable.

It’s Jamaica, a poor country and that movie house as seen better days. They don’t have the Albert Hall or wherever those royalty-attending premieres are held.

Something like that wouldn't phase the real royals. So coming into a half empty theatre would have amused them, not upset them. I say, the real royals.

They've already fought or at least disagreed publicly on a couple of occasions. One was on a trip to NYC to attend some events and film material for Netflix. They were outside a building at the UN, I believe it was. They weren't admitted to the building right away or something didn't go exactly right and tempers flared.
The other was at the infamous sparesely attended speech Harry gave to a UN committee. He looked like thunder as she sat by him beaming. Little tense words exchanged and she took his hand in hers as though to comfort and he yanked it away. And it wasn't from a someone taping surreptitiously. The footage was from the room's cameras trained on them, the guests.

If she wants to become a lifestyle retailer she needs to be only that. Shut up, stop with the ham fisted nonsense like movie premieres in Jamaica, shut down Scobie, never say another word about the royal family, hire good advisers, listen to them and count the money as it rolls in. But like R98 says, they are geniuses at wrong footing it. They seem unable to stop indulging their wounded feelings, real and imagined. Do they have enough capital to sustain the style in which they want to live? Because short of successfully launching a business I don't know how they make any money. There's nothing to suggest they've got the smarts to produce entertainment. They don't seem like nice people or trustworthy people. It's always amusing when posts such as at r105 try the old variation of a good offense is better than a defense.
In what world is Markle "a global figure" as that term is reasonably, popularly understood?
Putting her name in the same realm as say, the Obamas or the BRF, does not make it so that her stature is at that level, no matter how much you may want to try it.
Again, how amusing.

With the possible exception of Spotify, I imagine nobody would be happier than Netflix to learn the Sussexes had "options elsewhere".
As far elsewhere as possible, I reckon they'd be thinking.

R108 Meghan was married with a million dollar house in LA….her producer husband wasn’t super successful but enough so that she didn’t need to escort. She used him for his money and connections though, and dumped him when she achieved modest success on Suits.

R111 The escorting was way before that.

Funny that Paramount invited them to an opening in what is basically a mall multiplex cinema in one of the shittiest 3rd world countries in the western hemisphere, they were seated with the nobodies, and, gasp! were not seated last like is usually done with the famous people. To add insult to injury, it doesn't seem like they were invited to the February opening in Los Angeles.
Treating Harry and his wife like shit publically seems to have become the latest celebrity sport. It is very entertaining.

Not sure I buy that they were invited by the head of Paramount. What would the purpose be? Besides, it looks like he and his wife couldn't wait to get away from the dreadful duo.

There’s some Twitter video that seems to prove there was a separate screening room for the VIPs and that M&H ended up sitting there. The seats were different colors, that’s how you can tell. Haven’t seen the link. But maybe in the (widely circulated) clip that’s why Megs sends Harry off, to sort it out.

Yeah, there's some chatter online that they were in a different screening room from the VIPs, which would explain a lot. Not sure how true it is, but it isn't implausible.

Meghan was a Kappa Kappa Gama sorority sister at Northwestern. In my day they were known as the rich, somewhat druggie/loose sorority.
I worked in dormitory maintenance during my Northwestern summers and one of my jobs was to take out all the trash that sorority chicks left behind before they moved out. Kappa Kappa Gama was my favorite because it always yielded a treasure trove of Playgirl Magazines. I probably jerked off in the room Meghan later lived in.

I don't have a problem with men who are bald or balding, but the way Harry sneered over William losing his hair means I'll enjoy DumDum losing his.

Harry's first trip to Jamaica was in 2012 when he went on an official royal trip to the island.
This was the thank you message to the Governor-General of Jamaica that he wrote on his return:
[quit]Wow! I have totally fallen for Jamaica and its people. My grandmother, The Queen, was so right about you.
[quit]Thank you for showing me such a good time, and allowing me to visit so many cultural, historical and fun places.
[quit]The warmth that I received from the moment I set foot on your awesome island has been totally overwhelming.
[quit]In passing on your good wishes to The Queen for her Diamond Jubilee, I can't wait to tell her all about my three-day visit.
[quit]I have made life-long friends - and cool ones at that! Please can I come back and visit...lots?
[quit]Harry
He was 27 years old when he wrote this - not 17 - 27.

Jeez, my crappy quoting at r125. I'll post that again.
Harry's first trip to Jamaica was in 2012, an official royal visit representing his grandmother for her Diamond Jubilee. On his return he wrote a thank you message to the Governor-General of Jamaica. These are the words of a 27-year-old man acting in what is supposed to be a dignified and respectful role with implications for Britain's foreign relations.

Crooked banana nose, underbite, horsey veneers, makeup and bronzer several inches thick, no tits, boxy rectangular torso, razor thin legs and ankles and huge funky feet. What is so appealing about the rough old slapper?

Meghan says: "When the car was first invented, there wasn't a seatbelt. And what happened?
"People started to get hurt, people started to die. So you started to change the car."
...what a thing to say when your husband's mother would have survived a "catastrophic" crash had she worn a seatbelt. The Hello! article left that snippet out.

[quote]Naomi Cowan, who plays one of Bob's backing singers The I-Threes, joked her home nation was the right place for the royal couple to attend the premiere because no one would have made a fuss.
[quote]She said: "I heard a little rumour before, but then, what was so lovely was when they came into the theatre, at least for me, it felt very normal, 'cause Jamaicans -- one thing I'll tell you about Jamaicans - each Jamaican considers themself to be a star, so we appreciate celebrities but we don't make the biggest deal because we see ourselves as our own celebrity.
[quote]"So what was cool is that they walked in, it was actually quite quiet, very calm and they looked very comfortable and I was happy to see that."
