It's not surprising at all. He has proven to be inarticulate and lacking in charisma during his campaign, and the donor class has decided that the even more intellectually limited Nikki Haley is a better prospect. Still, none of them will ever stand a chance against Donald Trump, who has been undeservedly turned into a political martyr by the neocon Repucrat cabal's corruption and shameless misuse of the legal system.
In short, the 2024 presidential campaign will be VERY eventful.

He'd canceled his major news show appearances this morning, so it was a given he'd pulled out before the primary. I guess he couldn't tolerate the thought of single digits in New Hampshire as an active candidate. This run has killed his political career. Florida is a shambles. And Eddie Munster is going to have to start flying commercial.

I don't agree that it was his positions that hurt him with Republicans. The anti-"woke" stuff works elsewhere, too.
His main problem was that he's not Trump. MAGA at this point is a Trump cult. It doesn't matter that he actually managed to accomplish things that they (MAGA) like as governor. Just like it didn't matter that Vivek was good at debating and speaking MAGA positions better than Trump ever could. They want Trump and only Trump.
That's not to say that DeSantis ran a good campaign. No, he did terribly and came across like a fucking robot in clown shoes. But he never had a chance and the smart decision would've been to wait until 2028.

R46 at some point, you have to know when to cut your losses and stop throwing good money after bad. Any Republican at this point is better than the orange, piece of shit lunatic, but the fever unfortunately hasn’t broke among MAGA and the rest of the party. It is interesting that he is doing this before the New Hampshire primary. I think the conventional wisdom is that Trump would be the second choice for any DeSantis voter. But I don't know if that logic holds up. I think that many, many "never Trumpers" were in DeSantis' corner. And with DeSantis out of the race, the only remaining option for the never Trumpers is now Nikki Haley.
If she gets close to Trump in New Hampshire then Trump's cloak of invincibility is going to collapse.

I think DeSatan and Scott endorsed Trump because they are confident he will lose the general election. They also might fear that Haley actually has a shot. Their 2028 presidential aspirations are enhanced if Joe Biden gets a second term. They can't run against an incumbent Haley.

DeSantis has been flailing for a while now - this was only a matter of time. Some MAGA voters would rather have him than Trump as they are weary of Trump's behavior, but they are a small number of people. Unless Haley has a very strong showing in NH, her campaign will hang it up soon. I'm skeptical that she'd even win her home state of SC given that Uncle Tom Tim Scott and Ladybird Graham have both endorsed Trump.

Do you actually live in FL, R107? I do.
I'm willing to believe that racism had something to do with his first win over Gillum. Crist turned out to be a weak candidate, with Ron being a proxy for venting Biden hatred among the highly-enthused MAGAs. Moreover, it's commonly mentioned the Democratic party needs to get its act together. Combine that, and that's his big win.
I don't see much of a future path for him after he leaves office in three years. He's unpopular enough here that even if a Senate seat opened up he'd lose if he tried. He'd be slaughtered if he tried Prez again, just not up to that.
