If "Please Don't Destroy" is emblematic of the writing staff, it follows that every episode is a slog and unfunny. Lorne must have been high when he okayed the three dolts who think they're all hilarious.

And I blame head writer Colin Jost. "Weekend Update" is just plain bad week after week. Jost and Che appear to be phoning it in.

I regret that I tune in every week expecting some sharp writing and clever scripts. So, I end up going to bed about halfway through.

I like that Punkie creates characters based on real life, like the courtroom jumper and the church matron from another episode. It’s a throwback to classic observational comedy, instead of being an unhinged weirdo for laughs. For instance, Sherman and Yang portraying a variety of creeps with cluster B personality disorders, like they have Will Farrell Syndrome.

Agree, R205. She was good as the assistant in the window during the Talking Book recording sessions too. She's a limited performer, but she fits well into the mold of many of the past performers in the early years.

Yes R206… I think she’s more in line with the Phil Hartman era because she’s good at observing humanity and catching their nuances, going for the more challenging “why all people are funny” material rather than mocking weird people, which of course would be the easier way to get laughs.
