Holy shit, I've never seen a minute of this show until this thread and now I need to see it all.

Shane is clearly gay, and he has the Asian girlfriend to prove it.

I remember when this first aired my best friend turning to me and saying "when he grows up, won't momma be surprised to find him chugging cock on Hollywood Boulevard!" We still quote that all the time and I forgot who it was in reference to. OUR BELOVED SHANE! It was painful to watch his segments and that gondolier song brought back every bit of that pain. POOR SHANE!

There was a very nice African American mom and her very well behaved daughter. Notice no one ever talks about them. There was also a beauty pageant mom with her 4 year old daughter Emily. In one of the more memorable exchanges, she said "you're four years old. Act like it".

Say what you will about Debbie, she's tough and doesn't take herself that seriously. In a recap, they showed her reading the old Television Without Pity boards where she was routinely trashed. Instead of being hurt or defensive, she had a good laugh over the posts.

Agreed, R28. It was also both sad and enlightening when we learned on the follow-up last episode that Debbie had an actually talented daughter that died very young. I got the impression that Shane's sudden interest in becoming a singer was mostly motivated by his desire to comfort his mom by trying to fill his sister's shoes. He was a good kid, and I bet he grew up to be a good guy.

Shane was indeed very likable.

After Shane did his horrendous Hot Hot Hot, you could see his humiliation afterwards when he lost the talent contest and although he was almost crying, he still did an interview for the show.

As of 2017, Duncan Nutter was spotted in Stowe, Vermont, playing the male lead of Brigdoon alongside one of his sons. Corky St. Clair is such an apt comparison.

One of Duncan's sons was Nathan in The Full Monty on Broadway but I think he dropped out of the biz. He is not the same son that was in Brigadoon with Duncan.

R28 I agree wholeheartedly. She's fun to laugh at but knowing her story and her other kid that died, she's just really trying to make it happen for Shane. She's not as offensive as other showbiz parents. She's pretty interesting, I would have loved a DK reality show. She was probably cute when she was younger.
