The end of Che Diaz? Sara Ramirez hints they have been AXED from And Just Like That due to pro-Palestine stance

And Just Like That star Sara Ramirez has hinted they've been axed from the Sex and the City spin-off over their pro-Palestine stance - then insulted their 'performative' character.
Ramirez, 48, a non-binary actor who plays Che Diaz, and who uses they/them pronouns, on Tuesday shared a series of posts on Instagram implying they will not return for the third season.
'Our industry is so duplicitous,' the former Grey's Anatomy star wrote, the night after the Emmy Awards.
While they give awards away, casting directors and agents are making blacklists of actors and workers who post anything in support of Palestinians in Gaza to ensure they will not work again.
While they award 'lgbtq orgs', they are silent on those orgs ties to weapons manufacturers who are currently supporting the Israel military as it commits genocide on Palestinian lives that include LGBTQIA2S+ lives.'
Ramirez mocked people who need awards - ridiculing them as something 'shiny' that makes people 'feel special and powerful.'
But the performer said it was a dark time to celebrate, while thousands were dying in Gaza. Ramirez previously took to the streets of Brooklyn waving a transgender flag at a Palestinian protest.
'It's wild how performative so many in Hollywood are,' she said. 'Even more performative than the last character I played.' IMDb listed Che as Ramirez's most recent role.

And Just Like that the show improved tenfold.

[quote] Ramirez also, in a separate post on Tuesday, thanked people who have stood by them, implying that she has been going through a difficult time.
[quote]'I am so grateful for the people in my life who have helped me, and are still supporting me, in healing and getting free,' she wrote.
[quote]'Thank you for helping me peel back the layers of conditioning, socialization and trauma.

And who will finger-bang Miranda?

I do hope they bring Dolly Wells back as a potential partner for Miranda. As far as Che goes, we've had sufficient.

I love Sara. I love everything Sara has done EXCEPT And Just Like That. The character of Che Diaz was a) not funny b) had nothing to root for and c) was just kind of a shitty person. Had nothing to do with being non binary. You can still be a crappy person and be non binary. I still want to see more non binary characters but NOT THIS ONE. AWFUL. Couldn't wait for Che to stop hijacking whatever seen they were in and just move to the next scene. Sorry Sara. Again I love you otherwise... like a lot.

Shame on you! Milo is their support animal! They NEED them there to feel safe enough to speak their truth!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 17, 2024 4:17 AM |
Good. That character sucked the life out of every scene. And what the hell did she/they/it expect.? SJP is an exec producer on the show and she's Jewish. I'm surprised she hasn't knocked Nixon down a peg or two after that bullshit performative fast. Yeah, Cynthia your "Jewish" sons support Palestine so send them on over and see how fast their heads are separated from their bodies.
I apologize for these rude comments but sometimes I just reach my limit with these self-absorbed assholes. Let's see what deep thoughts Ramirez tweets when she can't make the rent.

Thank God. Now bring back Kim/Samantha full time if that is even possible or if there's enough money or green screens in the world that can make it happen. Only way to save that shit show of a revival.
I maintain a neutral stance myself but it seems these days in Hollywood that being Pro-Palestinian is the new Communist Party.

Take SOME accountability for the fact that you created a character everyone HATED. It is widely documented that Che Diaz was absolutely reviled.
Che was written insufferably and performed unsympathetically. Hey, sometimes shit doesn't work out. Hold your head up high and move on.
At 48, you're too old to be playing Gen Z intersectional victim of what were just shitty creative choices.

Leaked script from season 3, episode 1.
CHARLOTTE: and Rock seems happy with their new special friend they met at the Queers for Palestine event. Zion is a male non binary so Harry is going to have ‘the conversation’ with Rock.
CARRIE: oh that reminds me, did you see Che’s latest tiktok Miranda?
MIRANDA: it really is shocking that Mossad can use AI to make it look like Che told a load of jokes about Michelle Obama using the N word. Anyone who knows Che knows they only hate Jews and Pakis. Thankfully Che is in a safe house in Wisconsin while we look at her legal case.
ANTHONY: speaking of IDF, IDGAF about this whole shit. Those hot Jew boys in those cute uniforms though, such a waste or life! Now where’s my falafal?

Cynthia took part in read through of South Africa’s court submission redefining genocide with Nazi Sarandon and various GoT actors.
When it comes to Israel/Palestine there is a mixture of hardcore anti Jewish obsessives (Sarandon) and idealogical narcissists (Nixon).
Shady As is in the latter.

Ludicrously suggesting they're the victim of a Jewish conspiracy (despite Cynthia Nixon's continued gainful employment), while shitting all over a character they passionately defended until now, isn't going to help Ramirez's employment woes.
That they returned for season two despite Che's unpopularity was a small miracle and a kind gesture they chose not to repay. Other writers and producers will take note of that, but if HAGS is still open, maybe they can wait tables there.

I despise Hamas, and what they did on October 7th is beyond the grasp of human understanding.
I am 100% behind finding each rabid animal who committed atrocities on that day and afterwards, and exterminating them, because history proves there is no quarter in a civil society for terrorists.
That said, what innocent Palestinians, ESPECIALLY Palestinian children, are currently experiencing is ALSO beyond human comprehension.
One can want justice for Israel AND innocent Palestinian civilians, all at once.

How could she be whacked for her politics but not Nixon? It's bullshit. They know what the character did for the show and axed it to strengthen the franchise. HBO/Max is more revenue driven than ever. The days of making art as well are over, if it doesn't make money. This is a show that despite the feelings of SJP and Keebler did a Cattrall cameo. Pre-production is underway and shooting starts in March I gather from a crew member on Reddit.

300,000 Syrians killed by Assad in civil war.. 1 million Afghanis just expelled from Pakistan. You can bet Sara, Cynthia Nixon, and Susan Sarandon weren't crying through the streets of Brooklyn over that.

Because they learned a bunch of half truths on TikTok and they all believe it. Most of these dumb fucks never ever heard of Palestine until 3 months ago. 75% of them couldn't find it on a map/globe if their life depended on it. It's TikTok. Biden should have gotten rid of it. It's very dangerous. And trump approved it, even though people said it would be "DANGEROUS" and we can't trust the Chinese, but one of Trump's biggest donor's (larry fucking ellison) companies is running TikTok for the Chinese. And there were supposed to be certain rules and the Chinese have broken all of them and Ellison's company doesn't stop it. His company is not really running it. The Chinese are. And Biden still keeps TikTok around because his grandkids like it.
Just like tens of thousands of people are still in jail and being jailed DAILY for marijuana because Biden REFUSES to legalize marijuana on the federal level because he's afraid everyone else's kids that try marijuana will turn out horribly as two of his junkie kids did. He's afraid everyone will take one toke of pot and turn out like the useless, piece of shit, junkie Hunter Biden is. So tens of thousands of people sit in American jails at this very moment because they smoked marijuana and the President is okay with that.
The republicans realize TikTok can used to warp people's minds and they're using it for the election. The democrats aren't using it and really can't be bothered to do much about the next election. They're cool with the president having the lowest ratings of any president we've ever had. Biden should have gotten rid of TIkTok and said Chinese were doing all kinds of weird things with it.
Instead he's going to let TikTok divide the country EVEN MORE.

R83 it's mostly white liberals with white guilt who have become radically obsessed with it in the last 6 months. That, and POC who blindly fall in allegiance because Palestinians are Arabs and thus also fall under the POC umbrella. I truly think identity politics have warped people's ability to look at issues—they see a brown person and the assumption is that they are therefore the oppressed. No questions asked.

I gave up the show after season 1 because this character was just too ridiculous for words. The nadir was the comedy routine the three central characters attended where she just mouthed tired woke platitudes and talked about how many women she had fucked, and her audience screamed with delight.
I heard that in the second season her character became less annoying, but she was ruined for me the first season. That's one of the worst new characters on a TV show of all time.
I'm so curious why she was originally written the way she was--who among the higher-ups thought that that character would be beloved.

Maybe the character could have been saved if it wasn't so obnoxious and aggressive, but there was nothing to like. They tried to soften it a little in S2 but it was too late. The directing and the writing bears some responsibility too. I don't think that's a process where reality intrudes often, except to prompt more discussion of how the viewers don't get it.

[quote]R83] it's mostly white liberals with white guilt who have become radically obsessed with it in the last 6 months. That, and POC who blindly fall in allegiance because Palestinians are Arabs and thus also fall under the POC umbrella. I truly think identity politics have warped people's ability to look at issues—they see a brown person and the assumption is that they are therefore the oppressed. No questions asked.
I saw a funny video clip the other day. Some white pro-Palestinian protestors were blocking traffic. A black guy was trying to drop his daughter off at school and he was over their bullshit. He was telling them to get out of the way and that it’s illegal to block traffic etc etc to no avail. Then one of the protestors tried to open his car door. He had had it. He got out of his car and started pushing the protestors out of the way. You could literally see the confusion on the protesters faces. Like, what to do??? They’re protesting for the so oppressed Muslims but now a black guy was telling them to fuck off and get out of his way. Who to give their allegiance to in this moment??? The dilemma!

We are masked with winter coats on, and I am carrying Mio in a pet backpack on my front with a Palestinian flag hanging off it. We are against Islamophobia, anti-semitism, and genocide. We are against the U.S. government funding these horrific dehumanizing atrocities and we felt it necessary to show up with our queer, non-binary and trans community, which included trans Egyptian Palestinians. Lgbtqia2s+ community exists worldwide and will not be forgotten. Some like to pass around this tired narrative that we have no business advocating for Palestinian lives because they say that if we were in Gaza a certain kind of violence would be perpetrated on us that wouldn’t in the U.S. Well, Im feeling for those folks and their projections. I’m also here to remind them that here in the U.S. LGBTQIA2S+ people are still being murdered and discriminated against for being queer - in particular Black, Brown and Indigenous trans and non-binary communities. The point of including us in all spaces is to remind everyone that none of us are free until all of us are free. Humans have a history of violence throughout the world- this is nothing new. And liberation is for ALL OF US. So get used to us being present and accounted for. We matter, whether we’re in the U.S., the Congo, Sudan, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Hawaii or Gaza. And I am sending you all love, no matter how deeply you are hurting.

[quote]‘After Che split with Miranda, the character really held no value anymore and fans found them annoying. The storyline as a struggling comedian was a waste of airtime and Sara knew it.’
[quote[Addressing how there are no talks to axe Cynthia Nixon’s Miranda Hobbes over the actress’ stance on Palestine, the source continued: ‘Cynthia has been incredibly vocal about her support for Palestine and for her being an open lesbian.

by Anonymous | reply 131 | January 17, 2024 11:02 PM |
That seems odd for the person responsible to say because doesn't that reflect poorly on them and their ability to create compelling characters. Like if you're able to write the show well then one character wouldn't depend on another to exist or to be interesting and if they do you suck as a writer.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | January 17, 2024 11:03 PM |

The DM's "source close to the show" handled it in a "Don't fuck with me fellas. This ain't my first time at the rodeo" manner. They agreed with Ramirez that the character was bad, nipped the political smear in the bud, and established that they'll go for tit-for-tat in cuntiness if necessary.
There's not much more you can do against an attention-seeking lunatic with a persecution complex. Ramirez childishly shooting themself in the foot by shit-talking Che was a gift to the show's producers.

I think Michael Patrick King created Che as an awful character to spite Cynthia Nixon.
Before AJLT launched, Cynthia was blabbing all over the place about how the new series was a chance to "correct" SATC's sinful lack of diversity. SATC was just the worst, according to Twitter, and she was going to be the savior of representation on TV. Miranda being gay and having a girlfriend was clearly key to her signing on.
And MPK was like, "OK, you want Miranda to be gay, all previous character development to the contrary, and have a girlfriend? You're going to get the worst girlfriend imaginable."
Cynthia saw the vicious blowback, decided she liked the paychecks, and now is a lot quieter.

I'm not white. I never had an issue with SATC's diversity. 4 White chicks are friends and don't have a minority in their circle - that's hardly unrealistic. Just like Girlfriends, Living Single, Insecure weren't unrealistic. And all of those shows including SATC were enjoyable.

I don't even understand how we got to Miranda being gay, other than Nixon demanding the character mirror her own life. Miranda was always after cock during the first series(and she got quite a lot of it) and we're supposed to believe that all went away when she got tired of Steve?

Miranda was always a little dykey. It is interesting that during the initial run all four women had lesbian storylines (some very brief). Miranda pretending to be a lesbian because her bosses wife wanted to add a lesbian couple to their inner circle. Samantha and Maria, the artist. Charlotte befriended by a group of high powered dykes and Carrie with a same sex kiss during a game of spin the bottle.

Miranda being gay tracks. She seemed butch, could have been suppressing her true desires. I believe it. They went way too hard too fast with the other end of LGBTQ+. I don’t mind having a variety, but it was too much. The black characters thrown in there, too. SATC was realistic in how it portrayed friends who stick to their race/ethnic circle. Adding in some spice is fine but they through the kitchen sink at the AJLT which did it a disservice.
by Anonymous | reply 173 | January 19, 2024 12:19 AM |
My guess is that to get Cynthia Nixon on board with the sequel, they offered her a lot of creative license for her character. Like most actors, she is probably extremely self-centered. When she heard MPK wanted to make the sequel be more diverse, she probably went to him and said, "Okay, then I want Miranda to be more like me. I want her to come out as a lesbian and have a big sexy affair with a very butch woman or non-binary, just like I did in real life," and so this is what we got.
I do hope Sara Ramirez is well-fixed, because she's likely not going to be considered very hireable by Hollywood after this very public tantrum. She might be stuck having to play Madame Morrible in a touring company playing Beirut.

[quote]At the end of their post, Ramírez seemingly took a swipe at both And Just Like That … and Che Diaz, writing, “It’s wild how performative so many in Hollywood are. Last summer, they vehemently defended Che in this very publication, saying, “Anybody who benefits from patriarchy is going to have a problem with Che Diaz.”

R187 I really think there is a social contagion element at play with it. Unlike being gay, which requires that one have an attraction to/engagement in romantic and sexual activity with members of the same sex, being "non-binary" is purely about "me me me!" You can opt in just by saying you are so. It's a vain, made-up personality category that attracts mentally deranged narcissists who are so desperately boring that they will flock to anything that can get them attention.
The sick part is that now anything that falls under the LGBT umbrella has taken on the status of being "cool", hence why we have people like Harry Styles and Jacob Elordi playing up homoeroticism purely for cultural currency. LGBT++++++++++++ is now nothing more than a grab bag for the masses.

Sara's firing has nothing to do with being pro-Palestine and everything to do with poor writing, poor character development, and a poor story arc for Che. It also didn't help matters that the writers had Miranda dump cute, likable, enduring Steve for Che in season 1 of AJLT. I get that Cynthia Nixon is gay in real life, but this was also an unexpected, abrupt, and strangely executed arc for the Miranda character as well. From the first season, Che was cast as a constantly misunderstood, hyper sensitive, nonbinary home wrecker. Adding insult to that injury, the writers also gave Che flaccid jokes for their stand-up scenes. I wonder how the writers will jettison Che and explain their absence. Perhaps they will have "moved to London," like Samantha. 🙄

I never found Miranda that dykey. I get why people say it, but it's all based on outdated stereotypes. She was the the career woman who sought independence and didn't like bullshit and was blunt; she had short hair and didn't dress super girly; she didn't like guys who did all the stuff girly women like, etc. Plus she always enjoyed fucking men; even breaking down when she had a dry spell of mere months - telling the construction workers outside her Blockbuster that she needed to get laid. It doesn't track that she became a lesbian.

Season 2 was Che's redemption season and they did succeed in making them a little softer and more vulnerable. By the end of the season they were a cunt again. It's as of the writers hated Che as much as the audience did.

An evening or non binary intimacy, inspirational gender non conforming tales and show stopping performances from some of musics best LGBTQIA2S songwriters, including Cole Porter, Elton John, Lady Gaga and Duo Lips.

Who are we kidding with all of this? The only character given any real meat to work with the entire season is Carrie. Miranda's arc starts taking off after three episodes. Poor Charlotte is there happy getting a check with her biggest concerns being getting codoms in a blizzard and not getting of enough cum on her tits. Everyone else is just window dressing with very tired and tacky antiquated storylines.
To be 100% honest, I would take a full season of Che over another single episode of Anthony chasing muscle marys in short shorts around his fake as hell successful bakery.

This thread is on its last legs, but has anyone else noticed that non-binary people are way, way more likely to wear masks in public? I'm in Portland which has a very large non-binary (and trans) population and every single one of them I see seems to be wearing a mask, though virtually no one else is. Why is that? Are non-binaries all germophobes?

This is never mentioned now, but they were supposedly unhappy with their character's sexuality being changed at first. It makes their newfound 'queer' self-importance funnier, but mostly it makes them look dumb for being involved in an even more extreme version of a sexuality switcheroo as Miranda's love interest.

I'm a lesbian and I can't stand preachy cunts like Sara Ramirez. She annoyed the fuck out of me some years ago when she had a bitch fest on Twitter about a bisexual joke on the ABC show The Real O'Neals. R280 It means "not preachy at all." She was a visible queer (now we know, asexual) woman at a time when those were uncommon, but she stuck to her comedy and didn't make anyone feel uncomfortable with her personal grievances.

CARRIE: I'm not sure we should be talking about flames after what happened with Che. Sorry, Miranda.
MIRANDA: Oh it's just one of those things. One of the things I admired about Che was how strongly they felt about the causes they supported. Che setting themself on fire to protest Israeli war crimes was very on brand for them.
