Ian Somerhalder has quit acting and left Hollywood for a quiet, private life

Good for him if he’s happy.

He got tired of asking to show hole…

by Anonymousreply 1January 17, 2024 1:38 AM

Playing farmer in North Malibu doesnt count

by Anonymousreply 2January 17, 2024 1:40 AM

[quote]Since exchanging vows with Reed, 35, in 2015, Somerhalder has transitioned into producing documentaries about climate change, such as 2020’s Kiss the Ground. He also teamed up with his former TVD costar Paul Wesley in 2020 to launch Brother’s Bond Bourbon, which takes inspiration from their fictional characters.

Looking at his IMDB page I haven't seen even one of his projects. So I guess I'll get by without him.

by Anonymousreply 4January 17, 2024 1:54 AM

He always hated LA. He told me so back in the early aughts when he moved to NYC broke. He wanted to do stage work. He did an off Broadway show in 2005 called "Dog Sees God" about the Charlie Brown kids all grown up as fucked up adults. He came to see me all depressed cause he had to go back to "that place" for an audition (he meant LA). Well it turned out to be for Lost and the rest is history. Really nice guy, and those eyes! BTW I never got a gay vibe from him.

R5 please already. Lmao you’re unemployed and live off your family and have no education. 😂😂😂 the stories you come up with.

by Anonymousreply 6January 17, 2024 2:00 AM

Good for him.

I shouldn't like to have a career where everyone expects you to move ever upward, ever bigger, ever better projects, money, houses, name recognition. And where you're always shopping for the next job.

Nor would I like to do the same thing in the same place for 45 years and the shuffle off to a golf course.

by Anonymousreply 7January 17, 2024 2:10 AM

I've told that story before R6. I work in the Entertainment Industry for the last 25 years. I live in NYC, make 7 figures a year, own a $2MM apartment on the West Side and have no debt. What about you?

by Anonymousreply 8January 17, 2024 2:28 AM

If you haven’t established yourself as an actor before 30, forget about a career. 30 for men, 24ish for women. Nobody makes a living on acting. Everyone has their hand out when your going up as well. My agent aggressively pushed for new pictures, told me I wasn’t fit enough by sending an email. Pushed classes from visiting casting directors at my expense. I got pretty far in the 80’s from Chicago theatre to NYC and movies. In the end, I hated it, I’m happy for people that got further but I’m never jealous. I’m only jealous of the work and the opportunities of storytelling.

by Anonymousreply 9January 17, 2024 2:48 AM

Where did he move to?

I'd read the article, but I don't do Fox News.

by Anonymousreply 10January 17, 2024 2:52 AM

Very pretty eyes indeed

by Anonymousreply 11January 17, 2024 2:56 AM

Actually, I believe R5/R8. Thanks for the gossip!

by Anonymousreply 12January 17, 2024 2:56 AM

OP- I studied some other photographs of him. He does not look heterosexual to me.

by Anonymousreply 13January 17, 2024 2:56 AM

Post a screenshot of your brokerage account balance, r5, or you're full of shit.

by Anonymousreply 14January 17, 2024 7:38 AM

R5 He couldn’t have auditioned for Lost in 2005 because the show premiered in September 2004 and he was part of the original cast. Your timeline is off.

by Anonymousreply 15January 17, 2024 7:38 AM

We’ll always have this.

R8 only none of that is true. None of it. How sad.

by Anonymousreply 17January 17, 2024 9:20 AM

R15 because he’s LYING. That poster is the retard who needs everything explained to him. He has no job or education and that’s not a diss, it’s a fact. He has nothing going for him. He lives off his family and posts on here all day. R12 is him on an alt. Muriel keeps red tagging him but he keeps making new ones.

by Anonymousreply 18January 17, 2024 9:22 AM

I went to see Dog Sees God just to see him in the flesh.

by Anonymousreply 19January 17, 2024 11:13 AM

A $2 million apartment in NYC is nothing to brag about, and someone who makes seven figures would probably have a nicer place to live.

by Anonymousreply 20January 17, 2024 11:17 AM

He has an attractive face, but he needs to ditch that hardscrabble rug on his face, and RUN A COMB THROUGH HIS DAMN HAIR!

by Anonymousreply 21January 17, 2024 11:23 AM

[quote] I work in the Entertainment Industry for the last 25 years.

With a seven-figure salary, why do you have the grammar of a Guatemalan gardener?

by Anonymousreply 22January 17, 2024 11:24 AM

He's still sexy

by Anonymousreply 23January 17, 2024 11:33 AM

I'm always glad to see somebody have the balls to know when to walk away.

by Anonymousreply 24January 17, 2024 11:52 AM

[quote]I'm always glad to see somebody have the balls to know when to walk away.

Exactly, R24. In many aspects of life, and not least in the entertainment industry. It shouldn't be such a noteworthy thing to say "well done" to those who do it, only that it's so rare.

by Anonymousreply 25January 17, 2024 11:56 AM

It surely must be hard to keep up the front when you're a celebrity in public. I guess for some fame isn't everything, and at a point in their lives they just decide to give it up. I would assume he's made enough money to live comfortably without all the big money acting gigs.

by Anonymousreply 26January 17, 2024 12:06 PM

R9: I agree somewhat. For male actors who are good, age is never a problem. For female actors, age is always a problem regardless of how talented they are. People can get more acting jobs depending on how they look or if they look even younger than their current, chronological age.

by Anonymousreply 27January 17, 2024 12:21 PM

R26 the thing is not all actors want “fame”. DL thinks every actor is thirsty for fame when in reality some don’t want it. They want to act, want good scripts or interesting and challenging scripts and wanna work with good writers and directors and peers. They do not all chase fame and money. Eventually they will take a role that isn’t of interest for a paycheck because they are human and need to eat like the rest of us.

I don’t think Ian cared about fame.

by Anonymousreply 28January 17, 2024 1:37 PM

I predicted an OD for him after the “I’m a badass who hates the Hollywood system” interviews.

I’m happy that I was wrong.

by Anonymousreply 29January 17, 2024 1:42 PM

Walking away is moving to Pennsylvania to make furniture and never being photographed again. He's still doing entertainment-adjacent things where he's trading on his fame.

by Anonymousreply 30January 17, 2024 1:52 PM

He's opened an eyebrow threading salon in Bakersfield.

she's aged badly

by Anonymousreply 32January 17, 2024 2:17 PM

They’re both so pretentious though. She’s looked anorexic for years.

by Anonymousreply 33January 17, 2024 3:13 PM

R30 Michael Schoeffling doesn’t even like being recognized. He just lives a quiet life with his family, the way he likes it. He did not like the Hollywood system or the things he saw in Hollywood or the sexual harassment he dealt with from execs and people in power. He knew if he was willing to put out he would have had a bigger career and offered more roles but he wasn’t willing and walked away instead. A man true to himself.

by Anonymousreply 34January 17, 2024 3:20 PM

Astonishingly beautiful when young, but that wasn't going to last forever. Probably a wise move, although farming is not the most stable of second career choices.

by Anonymousreply 35January 17, 2024 3:21 PM

Maybe farming is a passion of his. Good for him.

by Anonymousreply 36January 17, 2024 3:22 PM

[quote] but that wasn't going to last forever.

Does he have a great ass?

by Anonymousreply 37January 17, 2024 3:40 PM

R9: Age is usually not an issue for the character actors. They can play a variety of supporting roles. It can be more of an issue for movie stars but I think it’s more about toning their bodies and enhancing their faces with cosmetic procedures.

by Anonymousreply 38January 17, 2024 4:36 PM

He was gorgeous (and you know he had to deal with sexual harrassment or worse etc - nature of the beast). He prob. witnessed and experienced enough shit to sour on the whole industry. He has enough money. If he can stay healthy and happy away from Hollyweird - good for him!

by Anonymousreply 39January 17, 2024 5:25 PM

If he's going to be a farmer, he should at least get a decent haircut, rather than that scruffy hippy shit.

by Anonymousreply 40January 17, 2024 5:53 PM

I thought farmers get all kinds of subsidies and tax breaks?
