The latest TLOU casting was revealed last Tuesday (Kaitlyn Dever as Abby) and Wednesday (Isabela Merced as Dina + Young Mazino as Jesse) so we may know sooner rather than later about the casting for Owen, Mel, and Manny. I'd say those are the three big roles from Abby's gang.

It's nothing but pure speculation that Kit could be in the runnning for Owen. But if he were cast, he'd probably be in both Season 2 and Season 3 as the showrunners have all but confirmed that TLOU2 will take more than one season to fully adapt. S2 will probably have lots of build-up to climactic events that unite S1 characters with new S2 characters, which could work in favour of someone as young as Kit being cast, because S2 would include Owen's younger days. Also, looks like the filming has moved to Vancouver instead of Calgary.

Again, purely speculation! If I had to take another large swing based on nothing but hopes and dreams, I'd spec a West End production for Kit. And of course, whatever may be happening with A24.

R34 The production time for S2 is allegedly February to September 2024, but the role of Owen likely wouldn't be needed for the entire production unless the role is greatly expanded. It's a fairly important role in the game but not a lead by any means, more of a supporting character to a lead (Abby). But it is a bigger role than a guest star that would only be needed for one or two episodes, which was the case for the majority of S1's supporting cast.

So you're right, even if we entertain that Kit could have been in consideration, it might not have worked out with scheduling. Heartstopper S4 is up in the air for filming this year (if yes, likely towards the end of the year) but Kit has Heartstopper S3 waiting in the wings for release + press, and potentially two movie releases. And then any another projects that have yet to be fully confirmed, at least not yet.

I tried to look at fan casting comments about Owen to see what the general fan feelings were about the casting, but #1 forgot how toxic and abrasive video game nerds are and #2 forgot how "controversial" TLOU2 was with incels. Hopefully they leave the show alone.

I have to hand it to Alice. I've been reading some criticism of the Percy Jackson author not having the best skills in writing the screenplays for the new Disney snow. Lots of talking, lots of exposition, lots of telling and not showing.

Heartstopper's writing isn't god tier and can fall into some awkwardness, but overall, I think Alice has been pretty successful at adapting their own content to a new medium. It may help that it's graphic novels to screen instead of prose to screen. Most of what they're adapting is dialogue. But they also have a great team of actors, editors, cinematographers, etc. and the Percy Jackson show is being criticized on this level as well. General consensus is that the child actors are good but have to unfortunately work with a lot of exposition.
