I wouldn't want to see Statham try a serious drama, but as others have said, he can be very funny, and he knows exactly what his range is and doesn't stray from it. He usually brings more to his action movies than they deserve, which can make those junky B-movies watchable.

R5 - me too. He was great in Spy. I honestly don’t mind him. He doesn’t come across as a cunt IRL, and I think doesn’t take himself too seriously.

His persona is the charming thug. Women and gays love a man emotionally distant, with flashes of humor. They’re thinking, I’ll be the difference in his life. Straight guys like the discipline he has because he’s fighting fit handsome but with not a pretty boy. He just my type and I’m the fag fir him. 😎

He was surprisingly brilliant in “Spy” with Melissa McCartney where he was playing a caricature of his stereotypical roles.

I mean he’s got it made. He isn’t the best actor but his audience isn’t looking for that. He takes big paychecks for shitty action movies and people watch. It’s a win.

He did a movie called Redemtion that I absolutely love. He's an AWOL British marine in hiding from the authorities and gets caught up in some illegal activities. Great movie, you can watch it free on Tubi.
