I don't know exactly what he did but it doesn't sound good. The Food Network people must be freaking out. Maybe they'll bring Paula Dean back...
Yeah, he really looks like a "super chef". *eye roll*
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 10, 2024 1:22 PM |
I always thought he was cute and a friendly guy. It disturbs me when nice people do bad stuff. They were heavily promoting his new show too.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 10, 2024 1:28 PM |
He is probably the only eye candy on the Food Network. He is also the co-host of Worst Cooks in America which is currently airing on the Food Network.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 10, 2024 1:37 PM |
He is probably the only eye candy on the Food Network.
I assume it will soon be "was" the only eye candy.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 10, 2024 1:39 PM |
Crazy Eyes Darnell.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | January 10, 2024 1:52 PM |
R3, he is not the cohost of Worst Cooks this season. Along with Anne, the new mentor is Tiffany Derry, who is very likable BTW.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | January 10, 2024 2:20 PM |
Let’s wait for more information before we start passing judgment.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 10, 2024 2:31 PM |
"Darnell has been arrested for selling drugs and has been to jail six times before his recent apprehension."
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 10, 2024 2:38 PM |
Oh, for God’s sake, who hasn’t engaged in a little burglary, strangulation and terroristic threatening?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 10, 2024 2:46 PM |
Thanks God it wasn't for sexual harassment!
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 10, 2024 2:54 PM |
That's eye candy? Come on now.
And the prison jumper isn't a good look.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 10, 2024 2:54 PM |
Wow. Who vets these people? I didn't know he had six arrests under his belt. That's rather excessive. It will be interesting how Food Network responds.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 10, 2024 3:10 PM |
Diversity > background checks

[bold]...Eye Candy[/bold]
WHAT?!
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 10, 2024 4:04 PM |
"Darnell"
The name alone screams TALENT.. And affirmative action. Apparently.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 10, 2024 4:04 PM |
If he was a blond blue eyed Aryan god, most of you would be responding in a totally different tone. We know that.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 10, 2024 4:09 PM |
Maybe handsome-adjacent, but he should be in the hot mugshot thread ahead of 95% of the mediocre-to-revolting white guys loitering there.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 10, 2024 4:12 PM |
Wow. Who vets these people? I didn't know he had six arrests under his belt. That's rather excessive. It will be interesting how Food Network responds
If they fire him he should run for congress!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 10, 2024 4:18 PM |
I've actually followed Darnell's rise on Food Network from the very beginning.
I remember seeing him for the first time a few years ago on a Thanksgiving cooking challenge competition.
He was so nice and likable, and best of all, he was a really good cook. I was so happy when he won, because he had a great, humble personality.
Then I started seeing him appear on Chopped, and as a guest on a lot of other Food Network shows.
Then he appeared on Worst Cooks.
And finally, he got this SuperChef challenge show, which was his own. And it's still being promoted on the network as of this week.
So I'm pretty surprised and DISAPPOINTED to hear this news.
Food Network has so few likable black personalities, and I thought maybe he could have been the one to rival Guy Fieri and Bobby Flay.
I guess not.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 10, 2024 5:35 PM |
He even did a Google Talks in 2019, "From Homeless to Celebrity Chef."
I wonder what was going on with this guy?
Maybe the pressure of having to pay for so many kids was getting to him.
Or the pressure of celebrity?
In any case, it's a bummer because he really seemed like Darnell was changing his life for the better.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | January 10, 2024 5:38 PM |
Sucks.
Can we replace him with an attractive gay? Does Food Network have any?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | January 10, 2024 5:49 PM |
But I love a little side of strangulation with my pineapple upside down cake!
by Anonymous | reply 23 | January 10, 2024 5:51 PM |
Wow. I just read an update saying he broke into a woman's home, started punching holes in her walls, strangled her until she passed out and threatened to kill her. He also removed her shorts to see if she had sex with another man because "I own you, nobody else does." What even the fuck?
by Anonymous | reply 24 | January 10, 2024 5:59 PM |
Oh shit…
by Anonymous | reply 25 | January 10, 2024 6:00 PM |
SuperChef Grudge Match was supposed to premiere very soon.
Now Food Network may have to scrap the whole thing!
by Anonymous | reply 26 | January 10, 2024 6:02 PM |
I prefer Hot Dish with Franco. On Food Network. He's a hot dish!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | January 10, 2024 6:58 PM |
I first thought drugs or alcohol because it's usually how people who are established fuck up their lives. Then I saw the strangulation part and changed my mind to sexual jealousy even before reading details at r24. It could be a combo, but the jealousy is corrosive and pernicious. He does fit a "classic" domestic abuser type. Good personality, charming, nice and helpful to neighbors, coworkers, etc., but turns into a raging beast about his woman.
That's a shame. He really didn't fit into any FN mold and that was a good thing. As far as vetting and his previous charges, they could have been minor crimes committed while very young. People deserve a second chance. I mean look at Lauren Boebert and her rap sheet and numerous contacts with LE. Uh, wait. Bad example...
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 10, 2024 7:05 PM |
He'll be very popular in the penitentiary because he can toss a mean salad.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 10, 2024 7:05 PM |
Does looking at a woman's lady parts show she was having sex with another dude? I know rape/sexual assault can cause trauma or whatever, but I don't get what he thought he was going to see by pulling down her pants to investigate.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 10, 2024 7:12 PM |
This happened on Jan. 2, the same date that the second episode of Season II was aired. No more episodes are listed so it appears Food Network cancelled immediately.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | January 10, 2024 7:23 PM |
Correction: They appear to be dumping the eight episodes of Season 2, although that may change since the news broke.
So sorry he messed up.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | January 10, 2024 7:27 PM |
I am seriously sick of “badass” chefs and their piercings, tats, corked earlobes, half-shaved spiked heads, ginormous fat asses (half the contestants on Chopped couldn’t run a food truck because they’d fall through the unreinforced floor), their stories of “getting in with a bad crowd” and their “I made some bad decisions.” Not to mention the weepy stories about my dead grandma who taught me how to cook, and how “I ’m honoring the women in my family” (because the men can’t be found) and how “I’ve got to honor my culture” (meanwhile 30-70% of chefs on any given show have the same culture).
Why is this a thing?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | January 10, 2024 7:29 PM |
Because no one else would fire them
by Anonymous | reply 35 | January 10, 2024 7:31 PM |
R19 as for likable Black chefs on Food Network, I always respond to Carla Hall and as I said above, Tiffany Derry is super engaging. But I get it. There are very few likable Black MALE chefs on Food Network.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 10, 2024 7:31 PM |
And Kardia Brown
There are very few likable Black MALE chefs on Food Network.
What about Eddie Jackson?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | January 10, 2024 7:37 PM |
I haven't watched FN in a couple of years. Do they have *any* black male chefs. I don't recall any besides Pat Neely and he hasn't been on in over 10 years.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | January 10, 2024 7:40 PM |
Yeah, Eddie Jackson is F-I-N-E as hell. I think he's very gay friendly too. That man can wear a pair of well-fitted pants. He's more of a personality than a chef though.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 10, 2024 7:41 PM |
I think one of the most likable Black male chefs Food Network ever had was the winner of their Next Food Network Star, Aaron McCargo. Unfortunately, he had really terrible diction (I think he was nicknamed Mushmouth) and he was not strong enough to host a show. But if you saw his performances on the challenges, he was really good but his runner-up Adam Gertler was much more polished and camera ready.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 10, 2024 7:43 PM |
I forgot about Eddie Jackson, but he wasn't on very much that I can recall, just guest appearances. Next Food Network Star was canceled because they were already saturated with winners and didn't have enough places to put them.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 10, 2024 7:44 PM |
What about Eddie Jackson?
Eddie Jackson's an asshole.
He's really "alpha male" (former football player) and he's very arrogant. I remember once on Beat Bobby Flay, one of the competitors was being kind of sassy, and Eddie actually said something along the lines of "Don't talk like that to me." He actually wanted to fight the guy! It was very awkward.
Also as mentioned upthread, Eddie's not a Chef. He's just not a good fit for Food Network.
Darnell was really fun, and engaging, and he could actually cook.
Again, this is very disappointing.

What happened to Jason Smith?
Lord Honey!
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 10, 2024 7:56 PM |
Most of those Food Network Star winners are simply judges on various FN shows. Obviously, Guy Fieri is now pretty much the face of the network so he's had much more success. I actually really like Aarti Sequeira. There's something really sweet and genuine about her. I love to get into the edibles and land on those stupid competition shows.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | January 10, 2024 8:12 PM |
And Jeff Mauro has a co-hosting gig on the Kitchen.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | January 10, 2024 8:35 PM |
Eddie Jackson hosts Holiday Cookie Challenge with the red haired woman whose husband’s family defrauded native Americans.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 10, 2024 8:36 PM |
The gay bald Israeli guy does hosting, too.
I like holiday baking championship but I hate Holiday Wars, Gingerbread Wars and Elf on a Shelf type shows. They’re so dumb. I don’t want to watch people drawing plans for and architecting inedible balls of Rice Krispies and fondant to tell some stupid “story” and then hand over a mini cream puff to the judges as their baking entry.
“Well, I built Charlie Brown, Lucy, Woodstock and Snoopy as the Red Baron atop his doghouse which I made out of cereal and cream of tartar. I incorporated Christmas lights on the outside of the doghouse, and made a snow fort out of gingerbread, royal icing, fondant, and boiled isomalt. The treat I made for you judges is a sweet potato, Mexican chocolate peppermint hombre gumdrop.”
Judges “I love your story! It’s so well-told with the stale balls of cereal you rubbed around in your grubby hands for half an hour and covered with colored cheese. And I’m really tasting the heat of this Mexican chocolate which blends so well with the savory sweet potato and the brightness of the peppermint. I just wish there was more of it.”

Gordon Ramsay, Guy Fieri, Andrew Zimmern and Kardea Brown should all be arrested for the vile frozen meals they are selling at Walmart. I tried a couple and they were all beyond awful. The "beef" in Gordon Ramsay's Shepherd's Pie smelled and tasted like dog food. Theft of $6.00 per disgusting meal.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 10, 2024 9:33 PM |
R31 I’m guessing he was looking for cum in her panties because you cannot look at a woman’s vulva/vaginal opening and tell if she’s has sex unless there was trauma. It’s illogical, crazy behavior but then so is breaking in, strangulation, fathering 8 children and throwing away a promising career. Poor kids. I hope a few of them can break the cycle.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 10, 2024 10:08 PM |
Most of those "famous chef" frozen (or even non-frozen) food items flop. Pioneer Woman, Martha Stewart, Ina Garten, et al.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 10, 2024 10:44 PM |
I'm surprised Bobby Flay has avoided any me too or other scandalous moments. He's rumored to be a real pussy hound with multiple ex wives.
