Nothing really surprising. All the usual suspects are there.

Well I just learned that my country is 11 and Russia is 18. Why aren't we kicking their arse?
I didn't know Japan was 3rd wealthiest.

The problem, at least here in the U.S. but most likely anywhere, is that wealthiest really means a tiny percentage are at Gilded Age levels while everyone else is struggling. It's hard to think of your country as wealthy when the working poor have to choose between rent and food each month. Obviously we're better off than developing world countries with plagues and famine and people living in huts, but better doesn't mean good unless you're in that upper echelon.

We're Number One!
The number one cause of death for US children is now guns. Not disease or car accidents. I'm so proud.

It's shocking but true R5. It's shocking how Americans don't seem to care. Children are the price of guns.

R3 you didn’t know a country far more advanced that the USA was wealthy?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 10, 2024 12:08 PM |
Not many surprises if you think about it, but interesting to see. I live in #12 the 12th which ranking would provoke incredulity among many people here but it part owes to the sometimes big leaps between countries in adjacent positions (e.g., between #1 and #2, between #2 and #3, between #7 and #8).
The % totals paint a more reliable picture, I think. Asia + Oceania have a combined 39.1% of the total wealth in the world, easily ahead of Northern America 33.1%, and Europe 23%.

Canada is part of latin America now? How do you explain the general blandness?

The yellow lines are aggregated regions, dumbo R9.

"Pro-life" indeed, r5.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 10, 2024 2:30 PM |
Why does that list call North America “Northern America” while South America is “South America?”
by Anonymous | reply 12 | January 10, 2024 2:36 PM |
R3 Japan was 2nd for decades.

I think people are responding to the this list in the wrong way: it lists "total" wealth, that is the size of the country and its economy is determinative.
What life is like in each country is better defined by per capita wealth. I.e. Luxembourg and Switzerland leading etc.

[quote] It's shocking how Americans don't seem to care.
Actually the vast majority of American voters do want more gun control. But the weapons lobbyists and other rightwing nutjobs control the legislative process through the Republicans.

What are we supposed to make of this list? It’s not surprising that, among developed countries, those with larger populations have greater total wealth.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | January 10, 2024 3:07 PM |
Clearly a flawed list. They left off Franistan.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 10, 2024 3:58 PM |
What we are supposed to make of this is
USA! USA!
We’re number 1! We’re number 1!

When did Hong Kong become a country?

Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
